The FA, "sign the beast" thread

I'll give BB a 2nd round pick in my next fantasy draft if he loans me mallett for 1 day to shovel my driveway tomorrow.

Alex Mack. At 28, he is entering the prime of his career, is smart (4.2 GPA at Cal, Berkeley), and was a wrestler. He will keep Brady upright in the big games.

While I agree he's a very intelligent player, Norm, I highly doubt he carried a 4.2 GPA. THAT would be beyond Einstein smarts.

Julius Peppers

Red Bryant

A very worthy pair Cousin. I am a buyer on those two.

My ideal (notice "my" Cousins) is resign Talib and Bount so I can get value for Ridley in trade plus Mallett for Draft picks in this deeper class.

I think BB looks at DE Michael Johnson once more. He and Jones at the end for many years will be a great pairing.

I would spend the money for Mack. He is Elite. He solves many O line issues.

I would take DT/DE Red Bryant and ILB D'Quell Jackson and the Front seven is in great shape with Kelly and Wilfork and the three kids plus Armstead(?) and Buccanon.

I would use Ninkovitch as an ILB with Jackson on 3-4 sets if we mix it up form 4-3 and use Mayo and Collins as OLB with a rotation of Hightower.

Now I want Sidney Rice and Owen Daniels when is is a CAPeroo.

An honest to gosh #1 WR who is 6'4" with speed and only 27 is Rice (Nicks is my fallback but he might cost more) . I painfully stress we do NOT have a #1 WR now. I suggest #2 and #3's with a unsigned slot guy as the best of the lot. Rice has been on the cusp of elite. With TB I think this is a great FA pick up.

Daniel is only 31. He is coming back from a broken fibula and could have played at the end of the year. He is a TE who can catch and block and be the Gronk stop gap while we get a couple kid TE's to learn. He catches 64% of his targets and he averages about 50 catches per year. Reliable!

Then why hasn't S Louie Delmas been here and signed? Injuries? He played all 16 last year. Neither one of our starting safeties did! Did you know that? He is a thumper we all know that but his coverage skills are better than you thought:

"Delmas as the 11th-best coverage safety in the league, and he surrendered the lowest completion percentage (43.8 percent) of any safety in the game."

Mack ($6.5?)and Johnson ($8.5?) will cost. Rice (injury) ($2.5 on a one year?) , Bryant ($5M?), Delmas (4 years at $22mm is the guess and taylor that to the CAP) and Daniels (injury)($2m prove it?) should be reasonable.

Pending Talib and Blunt they should all fit after some redos.

Hehe, Johnson, Mack, Bryant, Jackson, Daniels and Rice?

So that's 7, 7, 4, 3.5, 6, and 6? And I'm being conservative...$32 million/year?

If the Patriots could end up with 3 or 4 players from this list, I would be more than pleased. If not, onto the draft it is.

01. Alex Mack
02. Red Bryant or Linval Joseph
03. Michael Johnson or Jared Allen or Justin Tuck
04. T.J. Ward or Thomas DeCoud
05. Emmanuel Sanders or Sidney Rice
06. D'Qwell Jackson
07. Scott Chandler
08. Alex Carrington

This completely disregards the salary cap. As mentioned, I'd be happy with a few additions to an already good team.

if pats can't resign talib..then go after him or TJ Ward...More cover 2 means we need another playmaker next to Mccourty

I don't think we will be very good playing cover 2 as base, with this current D line. This year, the sacks were mostly coverage sacks, man to man secondary. The D line isn't fast enough. That might change with the draft but tj ward won't compensate for talib's departure IMO, unless we get a stud cb and quicker DE in the draft. Ryan and dennard on the outside worry me. I feel cover 2 can work only if you can count on reliable pressure.

I know he is flying under the radar a bit, I think this is finally the year to pull the switch and sign Adam Seward. Not only can he upgrade the LBing corp, but he spent last year as an on-air analyst on TV in China and you know how desperate Kraft wants to dominate that market. This signing makes far too much sense not to happen.

It's possible. At my school in the 1960s, our GPA was based on a 5.0 scale.

MY apologies Norm....I never heard of a grade point scale above 4.0

Well that's because your village's school marm back in the 1800s probably graded you by giving out a certain of number of lashes with a switch.

That's part of why I want to trade up for Aaron Donald

You and me both, mayo.

I thought he could possibly be an option at 29, but after the combine--probably not.

Hence the emphasis on "MY" choices. You can't have em all but in a perfect world............

I put possible price tags. Pick and choose.

I know I am going to get smashed, but why all the attention on McCourty as the next Ed Reed? He is good, not great. His passes defended were down about 30%. I think you need a stud SS that McCourty can compliment. I would not call McCourty a play maker. That is a stretch. He is a tick up from Eugene Wilson and that is maybe. Wilson was good. Not great. Compare their stats. The first three years of Wilson before injury they are identical.

McCourty is very good as far as versatility to jump to CB on some sets, but we still need that upgrade for run stopper and coverage combination. Delmas is the best fit although not the best that is available, as Byrd, Witner and Ward will be out of our ball park.

Delmas had the lowest completion against of any Saftey. He has a good year and he is still young. His $6.5mm was a CAPeroo.

T.J Ward had almost twice the tackles McCourty had. And the Cleveland D was 7th versus pass yds. and 8th versus rushing yards. As a Team , a mess yes, but pretty good D statistically.

Just Ward and Jackson alone from that Cleveland D would be a significant upgrade to our D. Ward is probably too high.

It's funny, but the one guy I would overpay for on my D would probably be Jarius Byrd. He really is an amazing safety.

Buffalo and he are parting ways, it seems (unless they tag him today) and it's rumored that Cleveland will go hard after him, which would free up Ward, who, yes, will probably be too expensive for us.

There's a nice Free Agent Fact or Fiction article up today that makes a lot of sense.

Aqui Talib a priority? FACT

Revis to NE? FICTION

Red Bryant an option for New England? FACT

Amendola traded or released? FICTION

Sydney Rice to New England? FICTION (argued they're more likely to keep JE)

I'll add one from other stories floating around: D'Qwell Jackson an option for NE? FACT.

If the Pats come out of FA keeping Talib and Edelman and adding Bryant and Jackson - and nothing more, they've had a good FA off-season - although I'd really like to see them grab at least one interior o-line veteran (still want Evan Dietrich-Smith).

Then draft Bitonio or Su'a'Filo or one of the top centers and a pair of TE's.
