Hah. Hah. Troy Brown was just on Sirius NFL with Pat Kirwin and Jim Miller. Funny, funny stuff.

They asked Troy what Belichick will tell his guys about stopping TY Hilton. Miller said that he'll show them film of every play where Hilton got over the top and say, "Fellas, that's not what we a looking for..."

Troy piped in and said the buzzword from Belichick this week will be:

GTFB, fellas

As in Get The **** Back.

He'll be screaming it all week. GTFB. GTFB.

They asked him what Belichick will do if Hilton beats a DB deep for a long one in the first quarter after preaching GTFB all week?

Troy said, "If he could, he'd walk up to him coming off the field and cut him on the spot...."

------------

So the next time you are wondering why the Pats give up a 15 yard curl over the middle wide open, just remember that Belichick has probably been screaming GTFB at the defense all week....

I love the overreaction. You would think Hilton was an unsotoppable deep threat consistently beating everyone who tries to cover him.
However, he was a guy who had 4 catches all season on balls throw over 30 yards beyond the los. Yes, one every 4 games.

I don't think it's an over-reaction. I think it's a reaction to the brain-dead Chiefs allowing the guy to kill them last week with the ONE thing that he can do to hurt you. Belichick HATES to get beat over the top by anybody. He really hates it when all you have to do take away the deep threat from a speedster is:

GTFB! :rocker:

And he also only had 5 TD's. People are treating this guy like Microtron.

Poor man's Julian Edelman.

Interesting conversation. Reminds me a bit of the talk before last year's AFCCG. If you remember, the talk — coming off the Ravens' deep-sixing of the Broncos via the deep ball — was very much about containing Torrey Smith and Jacoby Jones. In the end they combined for 75 yards (69 by Smith) against the Pats. (Of course it was Boldin and Pitta and the running game and the absence of Gronk that did in the Pats.)

I see a similar parallel here. Hilton is certainly a concern. But I do think Belichick has in many ways made his mark by controlling these flashy receiving threats in post-season. Going to be something to watch.

Yeah, they'll probably throw to Fleener 15 times with Hightower trying to cover him. Ugh

TY Hilton has been targeted 33 times in the past two games, so I'm hardly seeing it as anything of an overreaction on any level. On top of that, he led the Colts in red zone looks too, although Coby Fleener was a close 2nd.

If we're not going to GTFB with Hilton, then I'd question the use of even preparing for the opposition's best weapon? I would imagine that Troy Brown would be well tuned in to the kind of thinking that Belichick has normally used when facing players like this.

As far as Hilton being a "poor man's Julian Edelman," that is practically laughable. While Edelman proved himself as a capable enough target who rose to the challenge and was able to stay healthy this year, I wouldn't imagine that there'd be too many NFL GMs who would rather have Julian Edelman than TY Hilton, who looks to be one of the more promising young, speedy, major playmakers in the entire NFL.

I would assume that if Hilton had 150+ targets from Tom Brady on this particular team like Edelman had due to a lack of any other viable weapon, we'd have been a hell of a lot more effective in our WR game this season. I hope that we are able to keep Edelman, but there seems to be a good deal of overreacting in that sense too.

Good observation.........if Hightower cannot handle him, then they'll bring in fletcher or maybe even try a safety on him, fleener is tall and fast. Scary.

Hightower has been coming on of late, he is way better than what you saw the first few weeks after we lost mayo.

I think it's been pretty obvious that Hightower has improved nicely since struggling heavily about 6-8 games ago, but he's still a definite liability when attempting to cover receiving targets.

We've recently seen Aqib Talib cover Charles Clay, while Mike Wallace was handled in a different way, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if that were at least considered this past week.

I still believe that Talib is most effective when used vs the opposition's bigger, and more physical receivers instead of the smaller, quicker, shiftier, faster ones (as seen in the Gordon and S.Smith examples).

He is definitely a concern, but he's a concern that the Pats have an answer for. It is silly to compare the Chiefs D, which even before the key injuries to the D during that game could not bring pressure (the second half of the season, not the legend that built in kicking around the powder puffs in the first 9 games) and after injuries was hopeless against the Colts, with the Pats D. The Chiefs looked like the 2-5 team they were in the second half of the season, and Paris Hilton could have caught 100 yards in receptions against that D.

Hilton is a fast receiver, and Luck is a good QB. Give Luck enough time, and Hilton will get open and Luck will get him the ball. The key is not letting Luck sit safely back and pick the D apart. At this point I would say Hilton is much like Gaffney in 2006. 2 great games out of nowhere in the playoffs, then Indy focused on shutting him down rather than treating him as a JAG and did so. I don't see this any differently.

Our LB core is the greenest part of the team. So I think the inside passing and TE is what going to give us the most issues as most teams will try and exploit that.

I did not get the sense that Troy Brown was predicting that rushing the passer would be Belichick's #1 priority in coaching up his guys this week.

I actually don't think that will be the Pats' strategy. I think they'll play Luck like they play Rothlisberger. Disciplined rush, containment so he can't escape.

Hopefully with similar results.

What I learned from watching the Chiefs against Hilton last week is that if you do not bother to cover him at all, he will kill you.

I've watched a lot of football in my life but I will never, ever understand Andy Reid.

I'm still trying to figure out why Andy Reid was going with a hurry up passing attack in the second half with a 28 point lead. It's like he was doing everything he could to open the door for a Colts comeback.

Reid is to Peyton Manning as BB is to Brady...

As for coverage. i could see Talib on Fleener and Arrington with a Safety over the top to help/bracket Hilton. Gap Responsibility when rushing will be key, so it will be more contain/collapsing the pocket than trying to sack Luck. He's almost the same size/speed as Cam Newton (with better decision making and slightly less physical attributes...yeah I said slightly, no reason to read it twice ).

He lost his top two RBs, and Andy is always looking for an excuse to stop using his running game.

I wasn't going for excessive blitzing, and I agree it will be disciplined pressure. That was more a critique of KC's approach, and its defense, as to why it looked that bad. There is no need to go radical on the defense to win this game. The Pats have played more dangerous offenses this season than Indy, and held their own.

Big Ben, Newton, and Kaepernick and Luck last year. This is not breaking new ground for the Pats.

During the first 1/2 of the season, it should be noted that the special teams and defensive scoring of the KC Chiefs was averaging about 0.75 TDs per game. That greatly helped their scoring, and obviously contributed to more victories. Once that special teams and defensive scoring dried up as we all knew it would, the Chiefs appeared to be a much different team. As you noted they also played tougher competition in their final 8 games.

The Chiefs looked like the 2-5 team they were in the second half of the season, and Paris Hilton could have caught 100 yards in receptions against that D.

If Paris had agreed to make another high quality film afterwards, I'd have been quite interested in seeing such an occurrence happen :rocker:
