Redskins sign Jay Gruden to five-year deal as head coach

ummm.......Patriots fan living in the DC area??????

As someone with a front row seat for this $&)# show, all I can say is, God Bless Bob Kraft.

I'm in the same boat, and as a NoVa resident I got to pay for their practice facilities with my tax dollars. Boy do I hate Danny Snyder (and [Mod edit: politics], but that's a different story).

Let's keep politics out of it, Prime.

In rounds where they do have picks.

I'm sure they'd have loved to get Clowney in this year's draft. On the other hand, they've got their franchise QB. The QB is more important.

Let's not pretend that you wouldn't be perfectly fine with BB trading all sorts of picks to bring in his next franchise QB a few years from now.

Fair enough. Not really a political comment in this case, more about the public financing of stadiums/facilities (happens everywhere and on both sides of the aisle), but I understand the edit.

I would reserve judment on RGIII being a franchise QB. I watched a QB that couldn't read decenses pre-snap and progress through his reads after the snap. That is not a franchise QB.

3-13. It's a 53 man roster.

Dan Snyder has never learned that.

The problem with trading so much for one pick is that history tells us the one pick is as or more likely to be medicore that a HOFer.

Oh, he is their franchise QB. Its just a matter of whether that franchise will have any success.

You're welcome to your opinion on Griffin. I'm not going to get into that part of it in this thread (I've posted about him elsewhere if you're interested), because my point is that they got the guy they feel is their franchise QB.

If he bombs, they're screwed, but that's pretty much always true when you take your QB at the top.

I'm sure Snyder knows it's a 53 man roster, since he's the one who owns the team and all.

There are different ways to win in the NFL, and the Patriots, even under BB, certainly didn't win consistently prior to the elevation of TFB to the QB1 spot.

....3 tops.

2012, 2013 and 2014.

THAT is the crux of the issue right there with the Redskins "teambuilding".

I happen to like RGIII alot. Great kid, great athlete, smart guy. He has NO ONE around him on that team and he is taking a tremendous beating on a relatively small frame (small even for a QB).

The moment he was going to become a Redskin, I said he would not last past 4 years in the league - - not because of talent, but becuase a Snyder team would ask him to try to be a one man band and no one's body can take that in today's NFL.

You keep harping on this like it means something, when it doesn't.

Are you serious? If you are, how can I help you become the next Jets, Dolphins or Bills GM????

......btw, Herschel walker and Ricky Williams say hi.

Of course it does. If you're going to spend one 1st rounder on a QB, you need him to be good. If you're going to spend three 1sts and two 2nds (was it one or two? either way) you need him to be GREAT, because good isn't good enough if you can't build a solid team around him. And the best way to build a solid team is through the draft. You can't act like the standard isn't different depending on how much draft capital you gave up to acquire someone.

Don't let Shmessy's silliness infect you. If you think you've got the next franchise QB in the draft, you trade 3 first round picks for him, and you're fine with that. Shmessy knows that. He's just trolling.

Except you CAN'T know that. The Redskins still don't know that. The Colts don't even know that yet. If it were that cut and dry, sure, but you're not trading 3 1sts and 2 2nds for the next Brady/Manning/Rodgers, you're trading them for a CHANCE at that, and honestly one that hasn't panned out yet. It's not about it never working, it's about what you lose if it doesn't work.

I'm not sure what your point is here. You make this deal, 100 times out of 100.
