Oh-Oh Peyton may not have broken the passing record after all

Yet somehow you forget the tuck rule was used for the jets first. And thanks for showing you are a broncos fan trying to deny facts that should take the record away from your QB.

And that makes all his opinions on this subject moot as by his own logic he's blinded from reality due to his favouritism towards the Broncos.

If u are correct then I apologize. But I dont believe so. I also stated on one of my first posts on this forum that I admitted that the play in question should have been scored as a run. Please get your facts straight.

U are correct these are only my opinions. But honestly tell me how I am showing favoritism.

Nonsense. The issue here is that Brees is getting screwed because Fox pulled Manning a couple of plays too early and the league is going to ignore the repercussions of that. It's not an anti-Manning thing. It's a getting it right thing.

Exactly this and more.

What's ironic is how stupidly short sighted the NFL is acting by showing PM favoritism on this issue. Adherence to their own rules shields the NFL from potentially ugly media situations. Now they have opened themselves up to letting various accusations be hurled at them if they do not look the other way for other players/situations.

On another point, people make the mistake of projecting their own internal ethos onto organizations/organizational power (from government all the way down to an organization such as the NFL). An expectation that 'they' will act properly because 'I would act properly in the same situation and the next situation'. Wrong! 'They' do not work that way. And the only practical way for 'them' to be expected to, semi frequently, do the right thing is to operate under a specific set of rules without exception. But the moment the door is opened for 'them' to make decisions outside of that list of rules (even if doing it seems 'the right thing to do' at the moment)? What you have actually opened is the door for 'them' to almost certainly act improperly in the future. And those improper actions will always be because it's 'the right thing to do'.

Very good point and I fully understand your point of view. But in the end it was a matter of inches, and if it was any qb not named Manning breaking the record this thread wouldn't exist.

who cares WHAT you believe you ignorant moron...blatant, mind numbing stupidity is no excuse for trolling our site.

" Tuesday morning, when coach Bill Belichick was asked about the possible elimination of the rule, he noted that while the rule went New England’s way in the postseason, it went against the Patriots in the regular season that year.

In Week 2 at home against the Jets, Anthony Pleasant strip-sacked Vinny Testaverde on first and goal from the Patriots 10 in the second quarter, and Richard Seymour recovered the fumble.

The play was reversed after review under the tuck rule. Despite retaining possession, the Jets didn’t score a touchdown but did get a field goal, tying the game at 3-3. Curtis Martin’s third-quarter TD gave New York a 10-3 win."

You obviously don't know this board. We'd be discussing this no matter which QB it was.

U are correct these are only my opinions. But honestly tell me how I am showing favoritism.

Quit deflecting. You've made yourself look foolish. I've already called you out the first time I quoted you and you deflected there as well.

You come in here saying: "All I am doing is looking from the outside from a different perspective. We our naturally going to be biased towards our favorite team, and unfortunately that blinds most people from reality."

Yet the favourite team on this forum is the Patriots, which means by your logic everyone on here "is looking from the outside from a different perspective" as you put it.

Looking real silly there, and then...

With your previous and subsequent posts you start to expose yourself as a Broncos fan.

A Broncos fan, which makes you blinded from reality to this subject as you put it "naturally going to be biased towards our favorite team, and unfortunately that blinds most people from reality."

So you, a Broncos fan, come in here and tell us that while trying to defend Elias' decision to uphold the record, while by your own logic you're the one blinded from reality...

Oh the hypocrisy... :bricks:

those types of records are meaningless

I won't argue the point about it being a matter of inches as well as the specifics of the situation making the record all but a formality. I agree that these both are true facts. It's a perfect world where we could all expect the rules to be bent while being comfortable in the knowledge that 'rule bending' will only be used with the best of intentions to create only the fairest outcomes. That's fantasyland though. What's reality is 'John Doe's a real swell guy who we think earned it. So we will bend the rules for him. It's the right thing to do' is a slippery slope that will eventually result in wrong and unfair results.

It's best and as fair to everyone as possible for Roger Goodell and his NFL people to leave their personal feelings, PR, situational, whatever out of it (including the infamous 'it's the right thing to do'') and make these decisions, without exception, based on the well established rules.

I was curious why this thread was still going, but found some entertainment.

I think the reality is that they knew it was a record and decided not to "pile on" the record as well. If they knew they were 1 yard shy, then PM would have been in the first series in the third quarter.

In short, I think it's fair to say Manning owns the record, but do agree about the bias they show in how they enforce the rules. Kinda makes sense when you consider what they have been doing with the rules and the refs lately. Trickles down from the top and people will be hard pressed to believe what comes from that office with clear evidence pointing that they are supporting the wrong call.

in short, I'm ok with PM owning the record. I'm more worried about judgement rulings. But, they can't change outcome of games. Thus, they really need to get the ref situation right first.

U do realize that when Brady had the TD record that the Pats had a higher point differential average per game then the Donkey's right?

You also realize that Denver losing three games this season skews the point differential, right? You can't "run it up" if you lose.

Remove the pts scored and allowed in those three games and the Broncos won 13 games by an average of 17.1 points. Not as high 19 point differential of the 07 Patriots, but much closer than 13 point differential when you include their losses.

I congratulate u on your fancy long post that just twists my words around. Still not much of a point.

You said that if you were wrong regarding the "fumble" Tuck Rule, you'd apologize. I don't see an apology here.

And to correct the poster the TR was not 1st called against the Pats in the Jets game. It was called several times just in that 2001 season. It's not your fault. The media's willful ignorance is the reason fans don't know this.
