Rumor - McDaniels to be the Browns HC

Don't think they hire him. He was a bust in denver.

Browns officially have fired Rob Chudzinski.

I'm blanking on the timeline. Was Chud already in place when Lombardi got hired?

Can someone explain why us hiring Belichick cost us a 1st round pick but other teams can consistently hire away our DCs and OCs without any compensation? Im guessing its because it was the HC position and not a Coordinator?
Trading draft picks for coaches was banned starting in 2003.

Yes. Chud was hired on January 10 last year, Lombardi on January 18, I believe.

I remember reading the board in the earlier 2000's and that is a true statement.

I guess what I mean is McD is more a product of Brady than having any special ability.

2008 never happened?

2008 did happen we went 11-5 and missed the playoffs with Matt Cassel at QB who subsequently was traded for a second round draft pick and went on to have a Pro Bowl season in 2010 before his career was derailed by injuries. I am not saying is a stud but he has proven to be a capable NFL QB and he was passing to Randy Moss and Wes Welker. The offense average 25.6 PPG which ranked 8th in the NFL.

I agree with DI in respect to 2008 being very impressive for an OC to overcome the loss of Brady and take a backup and develop him. My thinking is McDaniels is a product of Belichick just like Eric Mangini, Scott Pioli, Brian Daboll, Charlie Weis, Romeo Crennel and others who have went on to fail without Belichick.

Thanks.

Also, Glazer's also reporting that Chud's been canned. That makes both Fox and ESPN.

McDaniels will do wonders with Josh Gordon and a good new young QB from the draft. His play calling at times though is highly questionable to put it lightly.

I disagree. Tim helped lead the team to the Playoffs and helped the team win a playoff game.

Tim Tebow is a disgrace to the NFL, his selfishness was ridiculous.

I really hope Josh does not leave. He's much better than BOB and Weiss were, IMO. Weiss was extremely overrated. His best attribute was being a good yeller-at-Brady. Second best was the occasional weird ass end around.

Good.

I'm sick of his horrendous playcalling. If he didn't have a hall of fame QB running his offense he would be working at McDonals.

I really like Bill O'Brien's offense. McDaniel's is good, but sometimes it feels like he has a vendetta against certain players (like WW last year) and that hampers him

Its an interesting idea that there is an unheralded disadvantage of a consistently successful team in that they are always losing their Coordinators as other teams try to steal a piece of their success.. losing continuity in these positions could actually have tangible disadvantages.

Maybe the same kind of overlooked handicap to a team as them drafting in the bottom third of every draft 13 years in a row.

Either way! I think a team that loses a Coordinator under contract deserves some kind of compensation! ... and yes, yes I'm including Penn State and Notre Dame in that statement.. though the latter might not be so inclined to pay anything..

You cannot stop a hire from another team where the coach is getting an upgrade in position. So if McDaniels goes from OC to head coach, the Pats cannot block it or get compensate for it.

The Pats tried to argue that Belichick was just the HC in NY and became the decision maker in NE. It didn't fly with the league.

What they should have argued was that HC in NE is an upgrade to HC in NJ.. decision maker or not..

They were 8th in the league in scoring when Brady was on the shelf and McDaniels was forced to work with a QB who hadn't started a game since high school.

in other words, you have no idea what you're talking about.

I'd like McD to stay if only for the consistency factor. It would be positive for our young receivers especially to work with the same OC next year.

I have a feeling we will see some changes in our offense. I expect us to draft a physical WR, sign a TE, and maybe add a veteran WR to go with Edelman and Amendola

It astounds me how people overlook the obvious.

Start by asking why BB brought McDaniels back immediately after the Rams season ended. If this guy was such a mediocre OC, then why did BB want him back at the most important time of the year for the team? BOB couldn't handle the few weeks with Penn. State? Guess again.

I love the "X is the worst coordinator, eva" stuff. The team loses, and the OC stinks. The team doesn't break records, and the OC stinks. The team doesn't win the Super Bowl, as it should every year, and the OC stinks. Outcomes have nothing to do with the chess match, personnel, matchups or simple luck. A great OC will get touchdowns every series, and win every game.

As for McDaniels in Denver, I believe the mistake was giving him full control at such a young age. If there was an experienced GM, the Cutler and Marshall garbage would have been less of a burden. They were not his fault, contrary to the belief of some, but they became his problem. Trying to coach and manage that nonsense was too much to ask of a new coach. I would not want to see him in Cleveland solely because that has been the bane of many in the BB tree. He may be a successful head coach one day, but I doubt the Browns are that team. It may well end any chance he has of making that next step.

Btw, Cutler and Marshall super combo made the playoffs again.

OK you need to stop right now! Until the Cleveland Browns officially hire McDaniels we are all going to speak glowingly of him. We cannot F up this opportunity when Lombardi comes on to this board to determine if Josh is a good fit he needs see all positives.

Examples…

Josh McDaniels is the best OC I have ever seen!

Why haven’t they fired Belichick and handed the team over to McDaniels yet?

Ryan Mallett is going to be a HOF any team not willing to trade a top 25 draft pick for him are stupid.

It’s time to bench Brady and start Mallett he is the next Peyton Manning.
