He was very noticable out there, can't believe he only was in on 22 snaps, seemd like a lot more. Really love his coverage skills, speed, and tackling. Also, may I add, I really think he's gonna be a beast when he is finally unleashed, kinda like Ninkovich, once he was unleashed, Ninko has been one of our most consistent QB sackers.

Collins has tremendous burst and get-off. His hips are smooth, but that's to be expected from a guy that played DB in his collegiate years. It's why he's effective in coverage.

His problem are instinctual and reading and reacting to plays in a timely fashion. He's slow to process information that's occurring in front of him. However, that issue is clearly correctable with experience and coaching.

His attributes as an athlete are off the charts. The plan to utilize him has changed drastically with Mayo's injury. The team likely planned to bring him along slowly and teach him how to be a pro LB. Now, he's being thrown in the fire. He's progressing.

A guy with that kind of athleticism is going to hard to keep him off the field going forward.

We had two rookies play 90/90 defensive snaps, plus two more play 70/90, and we held the Manning led Broncos with all those weapons to 24 points, (20 if you only count 3 against them for the 2nd fumble that started Manning at the 11). And that's in 73 minutes of gametime.

I don't think this can be overstated.

Have to agree here. I'm impressed with the kids that have been thrown into the fire out of necessity due to all the injuries the defense has suffered.

This baptism of fire should fare well for them down the road and into next year. Should see a leap in our pass D, or at least not a regression. Need a big wide body to fill the void if Big Vince isn't his old self. Of course, if Vince plays at 75% it's probably better than most DL at 100%.

You're putting 3 of the 7 on the offense, which I agree with; that leaves 4 to hang on the defense.

Anyhow, the Broncos scored 31, and we're hanging 10 on the offense, so that's 21 blamed on the defense in an overtime game ... with unfavorable weather conditions ... with the injuries on both sides being what they are.

Unfortunately he's starting to play like he's 'feeling it'. He's not an every down DT. Credit to him for such a humongous effort though.

Collins on one side, Ninko on one side, and Jones, who has shown he can play all over the D-Line, can disrupt the middle. If Buchanan can realize some of the flashes he showed earlier, we'll have something similar to what the Gints had all those years.

I said this in response to a post in the draft forum that had Chandler Jones playing inside. I haven't seen evidence to support this but my eyes tell me that Jones is much more productive off the edge than as a DT. I'm not sure we should take our best edge rusher away from doing just that.

I like what they are doing with Collins, easing him in gradually to our complex defenses...

Patience paid off last night, and he will probably get more snaps in the future...

Seriously. I don't understand why people continue to maintain that defensive rookies who don't start from week 1 are busts. When you have a hybrid defender in the Collins mold, Belichick eases them into the gameplan, responsibility by responsibility. There's been a ton written about it, and several players have talked extensively about it. It's obviously what's happening here.

We've been saying for years that the Pats need a linebacker who can cover in space. It looks like Collins might be that guy, and Fletcher might be a decent alternative in his own right. If this holds up, it will alleviate one of my biggest concerns, which is that teams with elite TEs could pass all over us in the playoffs.

I agree that he's more productive on the outside, but against certain kind of passers, I think that interior pressure is more disruptive and therefore more valuable, if that makes sense. It should be a situational, game-by-game adjustment, with the added benefit that it forces opposing o-lines to plan for a bunch of different wrinkles.

The Denver game looked like probably his best game as a patriot so far. 10 tackles, loked good rushing the passer

And looks like a solid cover lb..played some great pass defense on welker.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come because it gives us more options to play spikes/hightower against the run and Fletcher/Collins against the pass

I like Collins a lot so I focused on him when he was out there. He was all over the place. Really good game from him and from Fletcher.

I expect he'll have a good future with this club.

That's understandable...considering he's never made it through a season or even part of one without getting cracked this and torn that. I hate to say it like this, but the part of Fletcher's game I like the most is his intelligence.

I was a big Fletcher fan. Looked fwd to his return this year. Was sorely disappointed by him this summer and in spot duty earlier this season where frankly, he sucked. Ever since the ATL game he's gotten it in gear. I credit the defensive coaches for utilizing him in a way that makes his talent most effective. He probably needed real game experience to get back into the flow.

To me, Fletcher is the most underrated player on the team.

Agreed he reminds me of a poor mans Sean Lee.
