Who is our 4th wide receiver with Collie gone?

What happened to Collie?

Knee injury.

They cut Austin Collie on this past Tuesday, due to the knee injury.

Depending on the severity of it, he could return. He had put in a lot of work and was gaining increased reps as the weeks went by. Of course we have no idea how severe the injury is though, but for the time being we just couldn't afford to carry him on the roster.

Thompkins has a reception just 41% (23/56) this season, banged up or not banged up that is not good enough to be on a NFL field. If a street free agent can pass him (Collie) than I see no reason why Boyce a 4th rounder couldn’t surpass him in the second half of the season. I think people forget that Josh Boyce was the player we drafted and Thompkins was an UDFA. Boyce is far more talented and had a better college career, to say there is no way Boyce surpasses him sounds odd to me.

Collie was actually brought in to replace Boyce not Thompkins. Josh Boyce was a complete waste of space out there with a grand total of 5 targets through the first month of the season. There was no choice but to make him inactive.

We've seen our share of WR's who don't play their first season, as the team uses it as a red-shirted aspect so that they can take their time learning a complicated system. They likely either figure that we're good at the moment with shorter/intermediate receivers (Amendola, Edelman, recently Collie), and/or that Boyce just wasn't picking up the system well enough or establishing a chemistry with Tom Brady. Maybe a combination of both.

I don't think it has much to do with where anyone was drafted, as we've seen UDFA's start over high round draft picks plenty of times; although I think we can all understand what your point was with the statement. I'm sure Boyce will be back in the mix next year and should see much more playing time.

With Collie gone due to injury do you think they will simply reinsert Thompkins or could Josh Boyce be given an opportunity?

Personally I would like to see them give Boyce an opportunity to play some football, I see him having more potential than Thompkins and I also think he adds an element of speed to the game that very few in the NFL can duplicate.

Thompkins has shown more than Boyce. I think he's in if Collie is dinged up. KT has slowed down a bit since his hot start, maybe he hit the rookie wall a bit, but he should be given a chance to work through it. I don't mind Boyce but he is a total unknown quantity at this point.

I wonder if we can get this guy to play WR. He's already gotten the QB role down.

How'd you get that tape of the Jets QB practice?

I was very high on Thompkins and hopeful that he would build on the game winning catch against the Saints but that didn't happen.

I am not anti Thompkins but in the same respect since the start of camp he has been given more opportunity than Boyce. I for one wouldn't mind seeing Boyce receive that opportunity or at least a shot at it.

but was he given more opportunity? or does he just know the playbook/have more chemistry with brady...I would think its the latter...

we have to remember he';s a 25year old rookie so maybe he has hit a wall..I always expected Dobson to eventually supplant him(whether it was this year or next)

but for your #4 WR i'll take the guy with 300+ yards and 4 tds over boyce who has 2 catches?

although I would expect if Boyce gets the offense by next year he will move past Thompkins as well.

Is that the Toronto mayor in one of his "drunken stupors"?

Collie is not on the team anymore.

He was cut almost a week ago.

Our #4 WR is clearly Thompkins.

As far as Boyce is concerned, he might even be active with DeQuan Williams being added to the 53 man squad.

I agree with you, Boyce was not appearing to pick it up early on but it has been several weeks and we do have the bye where he can get in additional work.

How can you say that though, at the start of last season Sterling Moore was clearly the #3 sometimes #2 CB, Pat Chung was clearly the #1 safety. Nothing is ever clear with Belichick in my opinion heck you could make the case that Thompkins was clearly the #2 wide receiver for the first handful of games this year that changed so I cannot sit here and say that if Boyce has been improving and comes out of the bye off some great practices that he wouldn’t take the #4 spot. As we saw with the Thompkins/Dobson situation in most cases talent will always win out and Boyce is the more talented player in my opinion any way.

Without sounding too cliche it will be whoever gives us the best chance to beat the Carolina Panthers. Who else would it be? And since none of us have been at practice or know the gameplan we will just have to wait until next week to find out.

Very fair point, but unless you honestly feel that it will suddenly be the revival of the Josh Boyce inactive experiment, then it can only be 2 real players:

--Thompkins

--Edelman

(more likely Thompkins)

On top of that, we're speaking of the rest of the year--not just the next game.

Its Thompkins.....NEXT question?!
