Bronco Coach John Fox taken to hospital

Have so much respect for Fox.

That's interesting, because I've never felt that way about the guy at all. He's always seemed vaguely underhanded and insincere to me, and a bit of a showboater in his own way. Of course, I hope he's on the sidelines in perfect health when his team gets embarrassed in Foxboro a few weeks from now.

I don't know much about Fox, other than that he's a good coach and now coaches a team that I really, really, really don't like. So, I googled him and learned that he's a former Navy Seal and the father of three. By all accounts a good guy.

I hope he is well.

For the record, his dad was a Navy SEAL. John, however, did play college ball with Herm Edwards. Like all things NFL, there's always a bunch of interesting connections to be found.

From Jay Glazier:

Just spoke with John Fox. He's having a procedure on his aortic valve on Tuesday in North Carolina. He will remain there for 2 weeks and miss about a month to 6 weeks

I wish him the best of luck with his surgery.

" birth in Virginia Beach, Va., and during his mother's previous marriages, the future coach was John St. George and John Hutchison. Then, in mid-1960, Kaye met and married a rough and tough Navy SEAL, Ron Fox, and John's name changed again. "In my mind, he was my dad," John said. "He was always great to me, always treated me like his own son."

He was NEVER a SEAL. His second step father was. He's a USFL refugee that got his start as a secondary coach and worked his way up. He made his way in the league by making contacts, the same as a thousand other guys that have come and gone in this league. He's no hero, no tough military guy or anything else close to what's being pimped in this thread. He has a heart problem. I wish him and his family good luck and a speedy recovery.

Well, the Broncos D sucks and we all know the real coach of the offense.

EDIT:
Ian Rapoport ?@RapSheet 58s
No official announcement has been made, but source said Jack Del Rio is the favorite to take over for Broncos HC John Fox in the interim.

He always reminded me of Bob Uecker's fat brother...that wasn't funny.

Does anyone remember a few weeks ago on PFW in Progress when Fred made a comment about John Fox looking like he wasnt healthy? Maybe he was on to something..
Proof that there's a first for everything.

Fox has always struck me as an OK guy, at least on the surface. One thing the Broncos won't need to be concerned about is an interim head coach. The de facto head coach plays QB...

Heart attack? Must've been the upcoming "brutal schedule"

Well at least it wasn't a heart attack so it sounds more like preventive heart surgery. Not that it's any less worrisome, but not as critical. I wish him and his family the best.

Thanks. My bad on attributing the Seal affiliation to Coach and not his dad. Doesn't change how I feel though. Thanks again.

Best wishes to John Fox. Pro football coaching must be one of the most stressful jobs in all of sports. The pressure to win, plus having your every move magnified by the fact that you only play 16 games a year, plus the fact that you will probably be blamed for losing even if it is (unfairly) not your fault. It's probably taken years off some guys' lives.
