Watch New England Patriots vs. New York Jets [10/20/2013] - NFL.com

OK, so someone went out of his way to change the highlights at this link.

The Gost kick at 3:00 in was erased. We were commenting yesterday that not only did a Jets defender push another Jet from behind on that play, but the guy who was pushed actually lined up over the snapper in direct violation of the rule. The Jets violated two parts of that rule.

Too bad we can't see the kick now.

Do you think the highlight people are the only people in the world with a copy of the Pats game?

Reiss reviewed all the kicks from yesterday and tweets:

"Mike Reiss @MikeReiss 27m
(2 of 2) Only thing that showed up was that Jets' Quinton Coples had less egregious push on Gostkowski's 44-yard field goal in 4th quarter. "

" Mike Reiss @MikeReiss 25m
On play, Coples lined up in same spot at C. Jones did. Coples looped behind player to his right. One-handed push. Player flips over snapper."

----Given the result of the player being "pushed", I'm not sure how that is "less eggregious", but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

It clearly looked like Chris Jones was doing a stunt AROUND Vellano and just couldn't get around him. Coples clearly is NOT trying to get around the Jet infront of him - - he is full on - - not at a slant like Jones. The intents are clearly different and clearly more eggregios by Coples than by Chris Jones.

All that being said, if you read Reiss' article - - the NFL really has some "splainin" to do regarding the shoddy miscommunication of this new rule:
____

"....At the same time, it takes only a Google search to understand why there might be some misunderstanding about the rule. The league’s own website, NFL.com, had explained the rule this way for the past six weeks: “Team B players not on the line of scrimmage at the snap cannot push players on the line of scrimmage into the offensive formation.”

An accompanying video had NFL vice president of officiating Dean Blandino saying, “They cannot push from the second level, the down linemen into the offensive formation. … These techniques are dangerous, pushing into the offensive formation, and that’s why we want to get them out of the game.”
____

- - - But then the league "corrected" all this stuff and erased the things listed above from their sites. The league got their hand caught in the cookie jar there, folks.

- that's in the new rule thread.

No I don't think the NFL only had a copy. What I'm saying though is that the kick has been edited out. It was there last night.

And, as for Reiss, he is missing the violation of lining up over the snapper.

First cleansing the web site of the version of the rule quoted by BB and now editing the film. Sounds like Goodell is doing a Stalinist revision of history to cover his friends.

I heard Bush knocked down the twin towers too

just cause you execute an 'illegal move' badly.... does that mean it isnt illegal?

Ask a certain former TE of the Patriots? :bricks:

Boger and his crew were ranked dead last in the officials rankings last year for a reason though.

Boger was also apparently the benefit of some affirmative action to get him to the Super Bowl (there were multiple reports that his/his crew's grades were futzed with to make them better than they originally were so he'd be eligible to be picked to ref last season's SB).

was he the one who officiated the super bowl last year. if he was dead last, how did that happen ?

There was a bit of controversy about it - he was ranked low and then all of a sudden they changed the rankings so he could get the Super Bowl:

Y! SPORTS

"[Boger] shouldn't even be eligible for the game," one said. "Everybody basically knows what's happening. You see when grades appear, and when grades mysteriously disappear. Any incorrect call or missed call will disappear for no reason at all."

8 negative rankings all over turned:

Jerome Boger, Super Bowl Referee, Doubted By Some NFL Officials: REPORTS

I wrote hundreds of screaming posts about this travesty the day of the Super bowl and for weeks afterward. I, along with three other people proficient at video editing, noted FORTY ONE clear instances of illegal contact/ Pass interference...PENALTIES. Take a guess how many infractions were called....SEVEN...five on the 9ers..2 on the Ravens...of these exactly ONE...that's right...1..was a P.I. type call...and that one was on S.F.

1st half...face mask by Whitner..double unsportsmanlikes on the Ravens and 9ers..unnecessary roughness on SF-Joe Staley...RTP by Ngata...see where this is going?..a hotl,y contested matchup with blood boiling...SF gets called in the 2nd half for illegal contact...the ONE AND ONLY penalty called in the secondary for either team.

P-R-E-P-O-S-T-E-R-O-U-S...

When I say 41 I mean 41 CLEAR fouls in the secondary...there were many many more that could have gone either way....ONE CALL the entire game, including Torrey Smith grabbing a defender from behind with both arms and ripping away well before the easy INT reached the defender...and of course the CLEAR pass interference in the end zone by the Ravens..a non call that GAVE the murderer his swan song Super Bowl. Immediately following which the precious Ray Ray was announced to have a seat front and center on ESPN.

When I was kid we all knew what to call a put on sham like this...a Dog and Pony Show.

The NFL isn't "fixed" in the classic sense of the "mafia/bookies did it" sense. It's a fix done with the primary intent of maximizing league, network and advertising revenues. People scream "can't be!!! Ravens aren't popular...SF has no following!!"...it's the SUPER BOWL....rice paddy workers who wouldn't know a football if a Wilson Sporting Goods container washed ashore in the Tonkin Gulf WATCH the dyamed Super Bowl. It is THE most expensive poer minute advertising in the world. Jeezus krist, "Harbaugh Bowl" was TRADEMARKED by the NFL in February of 2012. The fix is having as many viewers for as long as possible tuned into the broadcast. The Ravens get up 26-9??? Power goes out! Coinky Dinky! "We'll LOSE viewers!!!..quick, do something!!"....the heat of battle cools down and lo and behold..after the almost 30 minute break, SF comes BACK!!! What a game!!!!! and no penalties being called...no holding on the line, illegal formations, offsides...NOTHING.

Heh....and everyone screams about "no way!!!! not true!!"....but when you drop your disbelief filter and go back through the Super Bowls since 2001, you see game after game affected by weird calls and non calls far above the mean...and I'm talking Patriot wins too as well as their losses. I think the owners, the networks and advertising have been in collusion since then in an effort to maximize their money earning potential in this penultimate contest. Jerome Boger named head referee on a word from Goodell...after the season of total incompetence he displayed?

Who DOESN'T think Peyton Manning will be in THIS year's Super Bowl?...and then Ray Ray-retire just like the murderer did, going on to a prominent position in the corporation? I remember we all used to laugh about the NFL and the WWE, never believing for a second that what we were watching was orchestrated...but the FACT that takes precedence in today's world is that the NFL is ENTERTAINMENT first and foremost. It is no longer a game. The game has become just a part of the larger overall show.

The Coples push was far less egregious than the Pats one at the end of the game. But even if it was the same play what does it change. That doesn't change the fact that it is still a penalty.

Obviously as a Jets fan Im biased but I dont think the penalty being called is the problem. The problem is that its a 15 yard penalty. I think it should be a penalty as do a lot of coaches and players who have been lobbied for this rule change. It should be a 5 yard penalty. 15 is just silly.

I agree with you. It isn't necessarily the penalty in itself, which will now be forced down every player's throat throughout the NFL this week thanks to this ridiculous example, it's the timing of the penalty.

No matter what team you root for, as an NFL fan we do not want to see these kinds of ridiculous calls at that moment in the game when it's in OT of a divisional rivalry. That was the absolute worst part about it.

However, I also give credit to the NYJ for their stellar play and gameplanning too, as I believe many of us do. I do not personally blame the penalty due to a bunch of other things putting us in that specific situation. Not all Pats fans or Jets fans are as one-sided as a lot of people think. We can admit when we were outplayed, as much as it pains us to lose to a dreaded rival.

Now on the subject of the woman who was punched...I disagree with your take on it wholeheartedly. I think stuff like that is deplorable and that you are making way too many assumptions. That said, every team has some fans who act that way too, no one is immune.

I'm done with the ballwashing now. Enjoy your "Super Bowl" week 7 victory and come back in a month so we can see where everything stands, division-wise. With a full game up already and your next 2 games vs CIN and NO, I think there's a very good chance this is long forgotten when we go to the bye in two weeks likely up at least a couple/few games with only 7 left.

It looks like Goodell has a special referee for special assignments. I wonder how many jets games this group will be on. You can't beat the opponents and Ref's too in a close game.

Seriously?

I can watch this entire game with my Gampeass subscription. People recorded this game on their televisions.

************.

We really are a fan base of whiners. When things don't go our way, this board is almost intolerable.

When the tuck rule...which was as pathetic a rule you can have..was enforced correctly, we were all over fans who ******ed and moaned about it saying 'well it was the correct call'!

This happens...an equally pathetic rule...was enforced correctly and all we can do is try and pick out conspiracies. Mike Pereira backed this rule the minute it was called and I tend to trust his judgement. He isn't the type to defend a referee wrongly and will happily state when one of his former colleagues is wrong or he doesn't agree with the call.

We weren't screwed. You all loved the tuck rule when it went in our favour so stop being hypocrites when something doesn't go our way.

I also HATE the constant *****ing at referees. They do a job I wouldn't want to do for the criticism, moaning and hate you get for trying your best.

They're HUMAN. Next time you make a mistake at work, people would do well to think about that.
