Sup with this guy?

ANFLS has him as the 32nd best CB in EPA/G and 35th in WPA.Advanced NFL Stats Player Statistics

He looks pretty good tonight on a solid defense and has somewhat silenced Welker.

Did the Pats give up on him a little early?

I would say so. He may not be as good as that ranking or whatever, but at the very least it's hard to believe that he was worse than some of the CB's we had in '11 and '12

Darius I think just wasn't suited to the soft zone coverage the 09-12 Pats played

This. He's fine in the man coverage that the Colts (and Patriots) are using. He was not nearly as good of a fit in the zone.

Sign the beast.............

Oh wait. Never mind. Wrong thread.

we have arrington to do what he does.

Butler is a bit of a better outside corner than Arrington is. I don't know by how much but he is. Butler was on the Patriots defense 2-3 years too soon. His early struggles also gave him some mental issues.

you obviously weren't watching Arrington being abused in the slot by Kerley today?

Uh, both are excellent slot corners.

SLOT

Wow, do you own a dictionary? if so, look up excellent. Arrington is not excellent at anything involving a football.

Better coaching, I'd bet. He could alwsays cover, just had to be taught to LOOK for the ball.

Reminds me of Gregory's interference when if he actually glanced back, he would have intercepted it. Instead he runs the WR over. Brilliant.

I think they played the soft zone because of the personnel not the other way around. So Wheatley and Wilhite and Butler and a rookie UDFA Arrington out there they went soft.

Exactly, and it sucks because if the pats had made the switch a little earlier, he would be starting for us today. The Pats scheme is perfect for him

Not really- different CBs with different strengths. Plus Butler is better at what Arrington was asked to do yesterday than Arrington is.

If I have one massive gripe with this coaching staff, it's that whenever a corner gets injured they respond by giving Arrington assignments that everyone knows he can't handle. Example: he can't play man coverage. At all. Against anybody. Hopefully BB and Patricia will realize that at some point, although I'm staring to doubt it since they apparently haven't yet.

He can, just in the slot. He doesn't have the open field agility and instead 'scampers' around in the 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. He's kind of unique like that.

People are saying he's not a slot corner because he was getting abused by Kerley. That's unfair, because while Kerley did often line up in the slot they were working him in the intermediate range of the field much of the time when Arrington was getting beat.

...That said, I was surprised he was getting abused by this type of receiver, since he did good work on Cruz in the Superbowl and they do the same thing with him.

maybe they did give up on him a lil early but BB did put a really good Defense on the field this year one of the best in he's era with the patriots the thing that sucks is the injures have killed it

As everyone has mentioned, Darius is best suited playing tight man to man than soft zone coverage.

And LOL at someone who said Arrington = Darius. Not this year and not if this is what Darius is really about.

Darius stayed pretty tight to Welker, even on the pivot misdirections routes Welker was running. Kerley completely burned Arrington when he did the same thing.

Arrington is best suited to be in a soft zone coverage.

Butler wasn't ready when he was in New England. He wasn't ready when he was in Carolina. He's also being overrated here about how he's playing now.

The guy was mentally soft, and he's toughened up a bit in that department, but it's not as if he's become Revis. He was still getting smoked last night, despite the praise the broadcasters were giving him. Hell, on two of the "great plays" he supposedly made, he was beaten and Manning made bad throws (both were released way too late).

Darius Butler is another that got away, like Spires and Minifield before him. There are a few over the years, but not many. In any case he is yet another example of the assertion that BB can't pick DB talent, is erroneous and wrong, and most of all irrelevant as the teams record proves.
