Hah - -loved the way Bruschi teed off on Polian over the whole losing-on-purpose to avoid going at 16-0.
Something tells me Dungy is going to be even more unbearable on this subject Sunday night. For those of you who still watch that show.
This is exactly what I mean when I wrote that most of the NE fans (meant those living in NE) will dismiss it.
Irrespective of how petty he might be, he is the ex-GM of one of the highly respected teams in the NFL. So, his words and allegations do carry weight around the NFL and the non-Pats fans who read it.
If I was a non-pats fan, I might have treated the pot-shots of former players like Porter, Warner etc as jealous rants on acts that were done in the open.
But I think that this is the first time that a frigging GM throws dirt at us and I am mad because we have to bear it thanks to our silence in the past.
And of course, try to have your attitude - dismiss him as a crank and refuse to consider these smears.
Not to mention the way the refs totally blew the 2006 AFCCG.
I'm not going to complain after 2001, but if I hear blowhards like Polian do it, I am going to say Colts were bailed out by:
1. Bogus OPI against Troy Brown at end of first half
2. Bogus faceguarding penalty against Ellis Hobbs--he didn't even make contact
3. Caldwell mauled in end zone and no call.
I mean, look at this:
2006 AFC Championship - NFL.com
Caldwell was mauled on that play.
Maybe it's just me but I didn't read his comments that way at all. I mean it's not like he actually used the words "well unlike the Patriots we won fairly"...
If doing it the right way means changing the rules, pumping in crowd noise and turning up the temperature in the Dome then yeah, the Colts won the "right way".
What other "AFC power" that won "multiple Super Bowls" do you think he's referring to?
Largely spot on. But, I believe other coaches, GMs and execs believe it, also. Look at Harbaugh's comments last year about our tainted SB wins, which he then apologized for. I believe it's much more widespread than we sometimes think. And, as I've said before, when you don't defend yourself, people will come to a conclusion you probably won't like. I don't believe the Spygate BS, but millions do I believe because largely Kraft and the team let them. It's a tired topic, that will never completely go away, but that's just my opinion. This is exactly what I mean when I wrote that most of the NE fans (meant those living in NE) will dismiss it.

Regarding Polian's status as a successful former GM and the weight it carries, does anyone remember the story from last year about the Saints GM allegedly tapping into the opposing team's coachin booth to sideline communications?
Polian was one of the first of ESPN's experts to weigh on the matter and he said listening on those conversations would be of little value to a team. That became the main reaction to the story (which was never verified): Eavesdropping on the private communications between the coaches on the sideline and the coaches in the booth wouldn't help a team very much.
All the people that thought taping defensive coaching signals given in front of the opposing team, the crowd, and the TV cameras was the worst scandal ever and the sole reason for the Patriots success took Polian's version as gospel and downplayed the whole thing.
Obviously, the eavesdropping story never being proved true is significant, but even when it was still being investigated, Polian was quick to dismiss it as a minor issue.
