From what Schiano was saying it sounds like it's a permanent move.

Surprised... I'm sure it was based on a lot more than just the loss on Sunday but I thought he played all right against us...

Damn shame, Bucs are my 2nd favorite team(nowhere close to my love for the patriots I woulda been pissed if we lost sunday) and I loved what I saw from Freeman early on in his career. Before Stafford took off like 2 seasons ago Freeman looked like the best quarterback from the 09 draft. Maybe a fresh start somewhere would be good for him. Jax maybe?

About 6 weeks too late. Glennon was better in the preseason game and should have been taking top reps from there. Freeman is a mess.

This is, I believe, now the second time the Bucs have made a quarterback change after playing us.

On the contrary. Just the right time, after playing us.

Not quite as satisfying as getting a Miami Dolphin fired in consecutive seasons, but it'll do.

Hmmmm, I wonder if BB and Schiano would swap QB's ... Mallet for Freeman?

To take it old school: Freeman was benchef.

Freeman reminds me of Sanchez so much, both overrated quarterbacks who were both praised as "future stars" by the media.

On NFL Live Wednesday, ESPN's Chris Mortensen suggested benched QB Josh Freeman's trade value is zilch."They would probably take anything for him at this point," Mortensen stated.

In addition to poor performance, Freeman carries a fully guaranteed $8.43 million base salary that any team would have to take on if they acquired him via trade. That's barring an in-season restructure/extension, which would seem awfully unlikely. This year's NFL trade deadline is October 29. Sep 25 - 4:10 PM

Here in the Tampa area there have been a lot of rumors for some time about Freeman liking the night life, and not having a really strong work ethic. The one good season he did have there were an awful lot of passes that should have been picks, dropped by opposing defensive backs.

While Glennon looked okay against the Patriots in August, overall his preseason mostly showed that he isn't ready to be an NFL starting QB. Apparently the idea is to make the move now and get him some experience, then use the bye week next week to work with him on adjustments and coach him up.

Freeman is a free agent next year so between that, his salary and his performance he has zero trade value.

I have had a bit of a laugh listening to some sports talk radio here today though. For two years callers have been bashing Freeman; now today it's all the fault of the OC, the HC, he's a great talent, etc.

I was at a bar that Freeman was at in Orlando during the offseason between 2010 and 2011 and he was putting away shots like nothing I've ever seen before. Patron shots, at that.

Even more delicious irony: after the Bucs lost to the Patriots in London, they replaced their quarterback . . . with Josh Freeman!

The Circle of Life, indeed.

And poor Freeman—he must have nightmares about the Hoodie.

I'm not that high on Mallett but I'd fire BB as GM if he did that. Freeman is a mess. And the minor detail of his huge cap hit makes it totally ludicrous.

Freeman sucks, and he doesn't know the system. Why the hell would you want the Patriots to bring him in midseason?

What flabbergasted me was that last week the guys Zig Fracassi ? on SIRIUS NFL radio were all over the Pats predicting a big Bucs victory and defending Freeman saying he'd go all breakout on the Pats. Bucs would run over us. I'd love to call in this week with a recording. Gannon was also down on our prospects.

Indeed, I also saw that cap hit .... after the fact.

Freeman has been much, much worse since Schiano came to town. I've read some complaints that his handling of Rutgers QBs hasn't been all that great as well, starting and pulling them often.

It's not a big deal, but I think it's interesting that Belichick holds Schiano in such high regard as a coach and yet almost every report coming out of Tampa is painting him as a terrible coach disliked by some of his best players, and he looks like he's on the hottest seat in the league in only his second year. Just absolutely damning reports that make Rex look like Vince Lombardi in terms of how to handle a team. Maybe he's just not cut out for the league. I wonder what Belichick sees in him, besides a disciplinarian approach.

He's not part of the Belichick coaching tree, but name one coach that Belichick, the great teacher of football, has endorsed or coached with that has been relatively successful in this league. I can't think of one.
