That's the thing. I would almost rather have the opposing team return a kick than get a touchback. And on the flip side, I don't know if I would return any kick that is caught in the end zone. The odds of better field position with a touchback over a return is much greater with the new rules.

The rules change and that line of thinking helped BB decide that an indifferent KR specialist was not likely to be worth a spot on the 53. If Demps were committed to football such that he could have put on 10 LBS of protective muscle, practiced and possibly developed as a 3rd down back, the answer might have been different.
