NE@BUF post-game (over)reaction thread

Won away from home vs a div rival.

Rookies on offence looked like rookies.

Kyle Arrington played very well. (Td over him was on the safety.)

Our DBs can tackle

Ryan Allen punted well on all but 1 kick.

Amendola is as advertised.

Vareen looked like a second round pick

Edelman is a baller he can just play

Gostkowski earned every dollar today.

This loss will stick in the craw of Buffalo fans. and it should, if their team played a cleaner game, they'd probably come out with a win. Though we did have some ugly football as well (with some ball security issues).

Still, I agree with plenty of people here. Thompkins got some good live game reps and hopefully this will be a stepping stone to getting in sync with Brady. DA needs to stay healthy and Edleman did what I expected him to do. Our running game can get really scary. Vereen did a nice job filling in for Stevan "I don't like the view from inside the doghouse" Ridley.

Defense really put together a nice game, but I would have liked to see more pressure on the QB.

He's a freaking rookie playing on the road.

Why does that matter? He played poorly, there are no medals for having an excuse.

First game, and we all know how much you can read from first games. Picked up Edelmensch in fantasy though Something tells me that barring injury, he's going to be a security blanket for a while.

Why is Vereen not starting?

And did Julian Edelman have a better game than the one from Welker everyone was gushing over?

Only concern was the total lack of pass rush. Manuel had all day to throw and rarely had to step up to avoid the rush. Jones was a non-factor

Agree with everything above. The Ridler should not start the game against the jets

It would be silly to take a guys job away due to 1 fumble.
Ridley will play in the base and Vereen will play in the sub.
Traditionally thats about a 50/50 split anyway.

Because the opportunity and probability for a learning curve and a jump in performance are at its highest right now in his career. It does matter. If he were a 5 year vet and this were his first game with the team, it would be an entirely different matter.

Agreed. But his fumbles last year may cause the coach to see this as more than one fumble.

These are my Brady6 amateur thoughts:

1. At least we won the game, at the end of the day that is what matters most.
2. Brady is a champion and once again proved it is not about the cards your dealt, it is about how you play your hand.
3. Amendola is better than Welker at this stage in their careers; he catches everything, and does more after the catch.
4. Edelman showed up today, he was a clutch performer and seems pared for a career year.
5. Not one rookie performed at a high level today, Thompkins caught 4 of 14 targets, and Vellano led all rookie defenders with 2 tackles.
6. The pass rush was nonexistent and I would blame the scheme, despite that the defense had a very good game overall.
7. Why is Washington back yet we have Blount out there returning kicks for a 17.5 yard average, either put Washington out there or get someone who can return kicks.
8. Some roster changes are needed ASAP.

This was a 2003-esque win. A gritty win where the team had to overcome adversities (fumbles, bad bounces, penalties).

Positives -
  • After dealing with a lot of frustration in the game, Brady still managed to lead the team down the field and in position for the GW FG.
  • Amendola made some CLUTCH catches. Dude was the defintion of toughness today. All the "glassblowers" can take a seat.
  • Edelman was the best WR today. 2 TDs and some major catches when the offense was sputtering.
  • Vereen looked solid in both the passing and running game. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see him start the Jets game
  • Ghost looked solid all day. Especially with the game winner
  • With the exception of the first drive of the 2nd half, the D came to play today. A hit-or-miss pass rush, but still managed to hold the Bills to only 21 points.
  • Arrington played great today. Two awesome FF and almost an INT. Seemed to be all over the place today.

Negatives -
  • Ridley. He can't be putting the ball on the ground as much as he does. I'm not sure whether it's his running style or just too much ****iness with the ball, but it needs to get fixed or he's looking at a backup role
  • The kick return game looked putrid. I now see why Washington was brought to this team. Can't have Blount returning kicks anymore
  • Thompkins/Sudfeld both played below our expectations. Both had drops and KT looked lost occassionally. We need to remember that they were UDFAs for a reason and they still need time.
  • Talib looked bad today. Not sure if he was at complete fault with that 3rd TD, but he still underwhelmed today.

I don't call wins "ugly". A win is a win whether you win by 1 or 100. Nice job by the Pats today.

One other thing. PersonallyI dont think the discussion is just welker for amendola . With this other receiver crew even if we had welker for amendola we would still struggle like did today.

And brady was throwing unnecessary fastballs at him.

D Amen -10 for 104, Edllmen - 7 for 79 and 2 touchdowns. Both welker like numbers. Just wait till we get a tight end. Vereen rushed for over a hundred after Ridlly was benched. Turnovers on offense was catastrophic and nearly cost us the game. The second fumble by Riddly was arguably a 14 point swing. Our Defense held them to 286 yards of offense. I'll take that and the close win and hope our offense produces like this without the turnovers.

The ugly story of this game is ball security, just like preseason. I think they will be practicing with a lot of vasoline this week. Oh, and I think they might grease up the ball too.

Also, Thompkins needs tutu school so he can learn to plié and pirouette and get his freaking feet down in bounds.

Disregarding the ball security, I think the offense performed at a decent level. They did okay considering the loss of almost all their receivers this year. Thompkins just looked a step off to me. He needs seasoning but he'll get there. He just isn't appropriate for #3 receiver yet. We need Gronk back. When that happens it's an entirely different situation.

The defense was a little disappointing given that they haven't had a lot of turmoil. The stats looked pretty good but this was a rookie QB's first game, so they should have looked a lot better. Also, they seemed to lack fire. Talib missing man-to-man coverage in the end zone ... not a lot of pressure on a rookie QB ... Arrington was the 1 bright spot in a very milktoast defense. They need some intimidation factor or we can write this year off too. I think they could have it but it isn't there now. Maybe in a few weeks we will see a few sparks. I hope so.

Why is Vereen not starting?

Vereen is starting

QB- Brady
RB- Ridley
RB- Vereen
WR- Amendola
WR- Edelman
TE- Hooman
LT- Solder
LG- Mankins
OC- Wendell
RG- Connolly
RT- Vollmer

That was the announced starting lineup today.

I think even more. I think half the balls thrown to Thomkins would've been forced to Wes.

Vereen is starting

QB- Brady
RB- Ridley
RB- Vereen
WR- Amendola
WR- Edelman
TE- Hooman
LT- Solder
LG- Mankins
OC- Wendell
RG- Connolly
RT- Vollmer

That was the announced starting lineup today.

I saw Thompkins and Develin in place of Edelman and Vereen on the first snap. Does the listing count as the official starters or does the actual team that comes out for the first snap go in the books as starting?

One huge thing I left out of my previous thoughts was this – My hatred for Aaron Hernandez tripled during this game, I actually just thought of him as a moron before the game, yet I did not have a ton of hate for him, after watching this I hope he gets shanked in prison.

I thought that was fun for some strange reason. Mr. Gronk returning will make a huge difference.

Amendola and Edelman were great.

I wish I wasn't scared of a fumble every time a running back touches the ball.

dont worry...you will never see Ridley again. He will be in the witness protection program by Monday.
