Patriots place safety Adrian Wilson on season ending IR

Another season and still we have crap in the back. Besides Talib, I don't trust anyone else.

And I can't believe we didn't draft this kid.........WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THAT MESS OF A SECONDARY SINCE 2008???????

Top Rookies as per the NFL web site..

"4. Tyrann Mathieu, Arizona Cardinals defensive back

A third-round steal, Mathieu has carried his playmaking ability and natural instincts from LSU to the pro game. He and Patrick Peterson are going to wreak havoc in a ball-hawking secondary."

If we finish in the top 10 for least passing yards allowed I'll eat my shoes. If we finish in the bottom 5 again, I think I'll change teams...because I'll consider this a stupid one.

McCourty is starting and it will be Wilson or Harmon beside him. Camp reports on Harmon have been great and he may well end up winning the job.

Gregory actually got the majority of the starting reps opposite of McCourty during training camp and preseason, so I'd have to assume that Gregory will be the one starting beside him, not Tavon Wilson or Duron Harmon; although at this point they will both likely be receiving rotational reps and either one has the ability to unseat Gregory from this spot should his play warrant a change.

Harmon's our #4 safety. The #4 safety doesn't have to play any reps at safety unless there is an injury.

I guess we're hoping that Harmon will move past T Wilson. It's possible. I think it more likely that the 3rd safety just won't play much.

I would have to think that Harmon is currently the 3rd safety myself. I think we'll definitely be seeing both Harmon and Tavon Wilson (I suppose we can now go back to just calling him "Wilson" again) in rotational roles for sure. Chances are that one of them will even be starting at some point this season when either Gregory's play is poor enough or there is an injury--as you state.

I think my point is that I'd expect to see the 4th safety more often than you may. We may actually see a rotation of both Wilson and Harmon as the "3rd" safety with no designation of a 4th safety for practical purposes, especially since Belichick will want to get Harmon some precious live reps and slowly give him more responsibilities and playing time as a rookie where he's blended in more throughout the year.

Bill Belichick overhauled the wide receiver position this year. Next year, Bill Belichick needs to overhaul the strong safety position.

2014 NFL Draft Priority - New England Patriots

1. CB (Aqib Talib will be an unrestricted free agent)
2. DT (No brainer)
3. SS (Steve Gregory and Adrian Wilson need to go out the door or thru the window)

Definitely.

Maybe some day we will be able to move past the secondary as being the number 1-3 priorities for the draft. That would be nice. I think we all expect Gregory to be gone, especially with his contract. The Wilson brothers are certainly candidates too, depending upon what happens with Tavon this season.

Once again FA will be a possibility, although none of us will get our hopes up. That said, it's good to see that money piling up at the same time. Eventually this is going to be addressed and solved.

Hey Bill,

You know my brother Jason GOT PAID!

Regards,

Devin McCourty (who also wear a "C")
