What you, and all of us, seem to be saying is that we don't see what Josh sees in Tebow. We've been wrong before.

The bottom line is that backup quarterback is an important position on the team. We will need a backup quarterback in 2014 or 2015 at the latest. This has absolutely nothing to do with replacing Brady.

If Josh chooses to keep Tebow, it is because he believes that he can make him into a #2 quarterback and sign him to a 3-5 year contract next year. Mallett will play is last year in 2014. As some have said, the iMPERFECT comparison is Hoyer and Mallett. In that case, we used a 3rd rounder for someone that we knew was at least a year away.

Can I ask you what is he fixing him for exactly? We don’t need a starting QB for at least 5 years at which time Tebow will be 31 years old and likely have diminished foot speed and agility which are the strengths of his game. He is also only here on a 2 year contract, both years we also have Mallett under contract as well, so it seems like a lot for work to fix Tebow to have a 3rd string QB or even a 2nd string QB if we traded Mallett in the offseason. Generally the ends have to justify the means and I cannot see what reward the Patriots would possible get out of fixing Tebow that would justify the work it would take…:idontgetit:

Maybe Tebow is actually right-handed...

Good points, But to answer. If Tebow improves and BB keeps him. You have a backup qb for league minimum with no guaranteed money. That is the plus. That's a whole lot more money to spend on other positions.
The "work it would take" is a non issue IMO. The trainers and coaches would be working with someone else anyway if Tebow wasn't on the team. As you know, it all comes down to BB and whether or not he sees something in Tebow and wants to keep him around.

Tebow if he made the team would have a $630,000 cap hit compared to Mallett’s roughly $800,000 cap hit, Tebow’s number then goes up to $750,000, so there is a minimal cap savings if any for having Tebow as your backup QB.

Of course it does. If we knew Brady wasn't going to ever get hurt or retire, we could keep only one quarterback.

Why would we expect a 4 year veteran who looks horrid trying to be third string to be transformed ala Frankenstein into a 2nd string quarterback?

I didn't know that. I figured Mallat made more money than that. If BB thinks there is a better value out there to be had, he will cut TEbow and go get it.

If teblow deserves a spot because he can be "developed" then what qb doesn't? There are thousands of qbs on the street who throw better than him. Plus they too could easily be converted to all pro Te or lb or Rob. After all bb did it with Neal right? That means any athlete can be converted to any position as long as they ate approximately the right size. Piece of cake.

I don't believe the thinking is to slightly increase savings from Mallet to Tebow. I believe the theory is that Mallet will be gone, and Tebow is his backfill.

Tebow is very physically gifted -- extremely good size and quickness. Great NFL arm in terms of the velocity he can put on it when he loads up. And great "gamer" clutchness -- he's really good at instinctive football, going for the jugular at the right time, making big plays with the game on the line, whatever that "cool under pressure" gene is, he's got it.

So the point is -- he's a "fixer's" dream. If you believe (like I think Josh does) that quarterbacks can be taught -- that is, taught good footwork, timing, accuracy, and decision-making -- then you'd start with a rough draft like Tebow.

Because say what you want about all of the things he lacks, the things he's got tend to be the things you can't teach.

And so he may not have "enough" of the passing talent for Josh to be able to to do it. But I can at least understand why he's the product you would start with. And Josh may see him right now as a QB with voices in his head, no confidence, and totally re-inventing his throwing technique. If that's the case, some terrible performances might be expected.

I don't know. I do know I don't care answer any responses along the lines of "Yeah but he's terrible did you see . . . ." I'm only talking about why a player like Tebow would be a good choice for a starting point on a "from the ground up" project.

I don't think you can teach mental processing speed and tebow is slow as molasses. Compare Glennon to tebow. Glennon has had one tc and he's night and day better than that teaturd.

"Teblow, teaturd." You sound like you're very bitter about a third string qb. Do you want to tell us the root cause of all your anger?

I don't think you can teach mental processing speed

As you become more practiced at something the pathways within the brain for signals to travel become more prominent. Some people take longer than others but this idea that Tebow can never learn our system is wrong.

Will he take longer than he is worth? I dunno, all signs point to yes but I'm still rooting for the guy and I still think that with enough time he could become something special. Probably right about the time that Brady is ready to retire.

Which is far too long for the people who want to have their QB3 be starter quality. Because every team in the league has Montana, Young and Bono on their roster.

This is a Super Bowl caliber team. It would be foolish to waste a roster spot on a "project" over a player who can contribute now. Unless Tebow starts playing another position and playing it well he's got to be cut.

if we are going to take on "fixer" players, lets pick up some other athletically gifted people.

Where is vernon gholston? i heard he was very athletic.

That's a separate issue -- after BB decides what he wants to do, the various posters can argue for and against the position of whether BB made a "foolish" decision or whether Josh talked him into a "foolish" decision.

I was responding to the question of "Yeah, but assuming you did want to do a 'project,' why Tebow?"

Your point goes more to the position of "this is not a team that's in the long-term project business."

Belichick has always managed with an eye towards the future. Tebow is a low risk project player who can contribute now on the punt team and scout team. Especially if they expect Mallett to be gone within a year it makes sense to be grooming Brady's backup.

Punt team - half the current roster can do that job so it's hardly a huge plus for Tebow + have the Patriots even used him there yet?
Scout team - how many slow, left handed QBs do the Patriots play this year?

Brady's backup has to be at least semi-competent running the PATRIOTS offense, Tebow is not that.

Tebow will never be Brady's back-up. There is nothing that can be done to turn him into a productive passer in the NFL, period. The entire effort to do so is a complete waste of time. Hopefully he will be gone in a week or so.

Mallett is QB2. Tebow has clearly been brought on to hedge our bets against not having Mallett next season - which is pretty much a given. Will he pan out?

Dunno, but he's gonna get a full season here.
