For the dedicated camp watchers -- who are the players in Patriots camp right now that are currently projected to be on the bubble but are good enough/valuable enough to other teams to be worth a discussion about a trade for a conditional 7th rounder?

fester, these threads are always entertaining. You will have these zainy suggestions that we should trade our spare parts for high picks....Or in this case perhpas even a 7th rounder but why deplete depth for a low pick and anyone deemed worth that is probably going to be released anyway.

Nobody that we will likely cut has any value on the trade market, imo.

Good thread. I would imagine there are several Pats players who could be dealt:

Will Svitek-- he was out there in FA and didn't get much action, but he's proven himself healthy and he's a viable OL for a team that loses a tackle or a guard. I'd prefer to keep him, but he's a trade possibility if there are a lot of OL injuries league-wide and/or he loses a roster battle anyway with Cannon/Zusevics. Connolly is a vague possibility, but he's also the backup center, so hard to see him getting traded.

Daniel Fells, Jake Ballard -- one of those guys might fetch a late-round pick if they show well in the rest of the preseason. Can't see anyone ponying up for Hooman. It would be bizarre to see the Pats carry five TEs (Ballard, Gronk, Fells, Sudfeld, Hooman), so when Gronk comes back, one of those guys is a trade candidate.

Julian Edelman -- would hate for him to go, but he's probably our sixth or seventh receiver, they have a worse-but-credible PR replacement ready in Washington, and he might have some value around the league if he shows he's healthy.

Brandon Spikes -- sounds crazy, I know, but he's got an odd relationship with the team, they have a big call to make on his contract soon, and they seemingly have replacements ready. I wouldn't trade him, but it fits with prior Belichick moves (a la Seymour).

Zoltan Mesko -- if Allen wins the camp battle, they could theoretically deal Zoltan to a punter-needy team, though I can't imagine who that might be. A dependable veteran heading toward a contract decision, logical trade candidate.

Jermaine Cunningham-- if he loses the job to Benard. Someone might give up a conditional seventh. In our dreams.

Jake Bequette-- See above.

I would rather keep almost all of these guys. Just a guess as to who conceivably could be traded.

I am not sure you would even get that for him. Even if we did it wouldnt be worth depleting our least deep skill position for a 7th rounder. RIDs potential is worth more than a 7th.

If you felt the team was better off with Hightower in the middle and Collins at the SAM; I suppose you could consider dealing Spikes. I wouldn't recommend it cause I feel he is worth more to us than any other team so I wouldn't expect a huge return.

Blount could be a guy that if he contunes to impress in the preseason you could potentially see a bigger return on your investment, I doubt it though but for the sake of this discussion I'm throwing it out there.

Outside of those 2 and the players we'd never give up the only assests I could envision is if you were giving up on a player like Bequette, Wilson, Dowling or even Cunningham, and you could convince another team that a change of environment could do them good. You'd have to accept a significantly lower draft pick than you used on the player, even if you by some small miracle you could sell a team on the environment change concept.

I really don't think we have much at all even the above mentioned are either not worth it or have about a 1% chance of happening.

I don't think Bolden holds any trade value; outside of the top tier running backs teams don't like to invest a lot in backs these days (also a problem with the Blount scenario).

Don is correct. "Conceivably" Fells was the first one I thought of in the other thread. Ravens are bare at TE. He is now healthy and can contribute. But I think he is more valuable than what you would get in a pick. Especially since 3 TEs are still somewhat question marks.

Actually Edelman was the other name I was thinking of but again too Elite a PR guy and the only WR with strong chemistry with TB. Now, if the scenario was we need emergency CB depth, that is a different issue. I would trade a pick or picks to a team for that. If you need a blue chip pick from a team to wheel for a solid player you have to give up someone pretty solid.

This doesn't look to me like a trade-the-bottom-of-the-roster year. IF a guy like Bolden or Ballard has a great preseason and is the odd man out, maybe.

But how about we take it down one notch and ask if any Pats bubble players would be claimed on waivers? I could imagine...

We all saw first hand how awful the run defense they had last week, Spikes is a monster against the run and is more suited to the 3-4 that they now run.

Potentially mad idea but - Adrian Wilson drops down to LB (like in Nickel packages) and Harmon comes in at safety.

Ninkovich has also played OLB in the 4-3 and the Pats have a large number of DEs on the roster so he can move back there if needed too.

Good point, however I believe Philly needs stout D-Lineman more than a run stopping LB.

Most of the guys mentioned as trade condidates aren't worth a bag of balls in a trade. Ras-I would retrieve a 7th at best. Ballard wouldn't fetch a 2019 7th rounder.

Um, Spikes is widely considered a very good LB, I've heard several national media types note his growing reputation. I think you're under selling him more than just a bit.

A cheap, hard hitting, experienced, BB trained, LB that will bring an attitude to your team? If they traded him today they'd get 4th at minimum, possibly even a 3rd should the right team find themselves in a jam due to injury. I'd say even a 2nd would be possible were Spikes not in the last year of his contract.

As to the original question: I bet Mesko would definitely have trade value.
