Back then Brady was a QB who had some nice intangibles but not a guy anyone would have predicted would break NFL records or become a HOFer. People said he was great because he had a ring but he just wasn't. Not yet. Look where his 6.26 YPA in 2002 would put him today.

His passer rating in 02 was also just 85.7. He didn't throw 1 TD pass over 50 yards. I witness his deep passes almost get completed to the cheerleaders.
I've looked at tapes from back then and compare it to now. The difference is like night and day. I like to go by what you see.
I don't think it has to do with him getting out of the way. Bill and Charlie kept the reins on him those years for a good reason.
