Mike Silver: Source says BB 'full of it'

With all due respect, OTG, given the banners flying at the top of the site here, might I suggest finding a sig pic that's a little less, um, graphic?

Just shut off the displaying of signatures. I did it many years ago and it makes reading threads a lot cleaner.

I actually Tweeted Silver last night the following:

"I guess Tebow's accuracy is better than yours. Shocking that you were wrong AGAIN."

He then immediately blocked me and replied "LATER". :)

Another thick-skinned member of the press. Twitter gives them an outlet to receive direct feedback from their readers and my experience is that they shut down anyone who is remotely critical.

I wonder how Silver would react if an athlete or coach blocked him on twitter?

Did you SEE what Richard Harrow did in that whore house in the season finale? He single handedly helped Nucky drive Rosetti out of town.

As a side note, the actor that portrayed Gyp Rosetti deserves an Emmy nod.

Skip Bayless is the best contrarian hack in the sports media today, but he would never write an article like this.

Skip Bayless knows he's an entertainer. Silver thinks he's a journalist.

He should just shut up. As Abe Lincoln said, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt."

It was actually Mark Twain that said it, but just as applicable.

The quote has actually been attributed to both Lincoln and Twain, more commonly to Lincoln, but was very likely used by both. Its origin is very likely from scriptures and one or both of them likely paraphrased it to some degree. It is, as you suggest, applicable to Silver in this situation.

This is one of my favorite Mark Twain quotes:

"Clothes make the man.

Naked people have little or no influence on society."

That's only because I haven't paraded around naked in Public...much.

Funny 'cause it's true!!

When you compare badly to Skip Bayless...

Exactly!! I felt like my Super Binkie from 2 Seasons ago just scored 16 TouchDowns!! :rocker:

I don't care for Pix that show a guy pointing a Gun at the Viewer, which is why I chose to withdraw it...But I gotta say that Richard Harrow was my MAN from the very 1st Episode that he joined the Crew, back in Season 1.

*And I couldn't agree more about Bobby Canavale!!

"BarNEE GOOGLE...with the googly, googly EYES!!" Hah!!

*And I was quite mesmerized with the performance of Meg Chambers Steedle, who played the delicious Billie Kent ~ Nucky's Girl: She actually far more scrumptious in 21st Century garb, though I gotta say that it was not'er plentiful scrumptiousness, but rather her incredibly awesome acting in Empire that got my attention!! :rocker:

Cool Group Shot, Hither:

Honestly, the Cast is incredibly Deep & Talented on this Show, despite the relentless slaughter!!

It's worse than dealing with the Salary Cap!!

Silver's followup is pretty comical, claiming that BB absolutely, positively DID loathe the player...until he didn't. So Silver was absolutely, positively right, except for being wrong.

FWIW, I don't buy any of the following theories of why they made this move:

- They're converting Tebow to FB/HB
- They're going to be "creative" about using him at QB in tricky ways
- The ever-sentimental Belichick is just helping out a gosh-darn-good guy

I could almost believe the "McDaniels badgered BB for a month until he finally gave in theory. But my leading contender goes like this:

The Patriots needed a third QB for camp. Mike Kafka underwhelmed in OTAs. Looking at the available options -- Tyler Thigpen? Vince Young? -- they decided to take a flyer on Tim Tebow, a young vet with a good attitude who was available cheap. Tebow now joins the large group of longshots trying to play their way onto the roster.

IOW, it's a totally routine minor signing. :yawn2:

Lincoln was the one who said 'Don't believe everything you read on the Internet. Or anything by Michael Silver"

You will be happy to read, however, that I hesitated to post that Picture, as, while it is an awesome Picture, it is, indeed, a bit Graphic, and was already leaning towards replacing it...and I suppose I will probably do so.

FWIW, it was about the graphic nature more than anything else, and not about politics or philosophy. [And I had to look up the names just to know what show this was.]

I'd've been just as appalled if you (or anyone else) had posted, say, a picture of a diseased lung to say "stop smoking."

I agree with everything in this post except for the "totally routine" part.
SI will be all over this from day one as will all the other media. Not being a Tebowite, I find this signing a little embarrassing. The first time he flings himself into his Tebow pose, I may just hurl. I'm kind of gagging on my Kool aid as it is. Why didn't the attention-starved Jaguars bring him on as a 3 or 2, or 1 even?
I suppose this fits with some of the more dumbass signings of the last few years like Ocho and Fat Man who Forgot How to Play Football. I lived through them so I guess I'll live though this, but I don't have to like it. It was so delicious when the Jets signed him--not so tasty now.

Mike Silver does not believe BB is smarter than he is. Not for one second. BB's refutation of Silver's recent story made him look like a fool. Silver's ego then got the better of him, so he doubled down on his original story. He knows he can raise the stakes here because with today's journalistic standards, he can quote unnamed sources forever and get away with it.

How does that affect the Patriots even a little bit?

Some fans may have TVs glued to ESPN and NFL network 24/7, but somehow I don't think the coverage matters one little bit in Foxboro.

It is in every relevant way a routine minor signing of a camp arm who has a chance, like any other bottom-of-the-roster guy, to show he deserves to stick or that he deserves to be on BB's rolodex, so that in December when 15 guys are on IR, he gets a call due to some special teams skills he showed in camp.

I agree completely with you, fnord and others who characterize this as a move to improve the QB3 position and possibly get far more flexible value out of that position than was available with Kafka. Note that reports say there is no guaranteed $ in Tebow's 2 year contract. If so, why all the rending of garments by the Pats fans? Tim will either earn a spot on the 53 or be cut for a player who brings more to the team. I'm fine either way and don't see the fuss when the roster is 90.

Did anyone read the new article?

I found Silver to be pretty complimentary of BB

Maybe Silver was right.

Maybe BB hates Tebs SO much that he brought him in just to torment him by rooming him with Gronk and then cut him.
