You forgot to mention that all the roster spots are taken up and we wasted the last one on Jenkins :mad2:

Sarcasm?

I see more than just potential in this guy. I'll tell you what, at 6 foot 4, this guy will be a bean pole out there. He'll catch TD's quicker then Rex can lick 5 toes!! :singing:

Anything's possible, but....

9 year career
25 TDs

I actually like this signing. Not only does he provide veteran competition for camp but he has experience, a solid career under his belt especially for mediocre quarterbacks throwing him the ball during his years, size, good route running and clutch hands. He can also line up in the slot. A pretty good and underrated signing. Bill knows what he is doing. Could be very good leadership for a young receiving core. Reminds me of when David Patten was brought in, minus being a few inches taller.

What possible downside is there to signing a guy like this to an $855K contract that will only count $570k against the cap?

Worst case scenario: Jenkins bombs in camp and Patriots lose $15k against the salary cap

Best case reasonable scenario: Patriots gain a solid number 3/4 receiver for only $570k against the cap

Probable scenario: Patriots gain a wide receiver who goes through camp, learns the system, gets cut during final cuts and then comes back to be a solid number 4 receiver to replace an injured Patriot (so bascially Branch's role) all at a non-guaranteed bargain basement price.

I mean, talk about all upside with basically zero downside.

This was a good solid signing.

Michael Jenkins - GameTime - YouTube

very solid guy, I can't believe people talk about him like he is some scrub off the street... this guy has been around and made some very good teams .. check out the video. People expect us to bring in Anquan Boldin or somebody of that magnitude.

Wendell is one of the top centers in the NFL entering camp. Donald Jones is at least a WR3 with a stretch potential of WR1...

Was that an early April Fool's?

Well, I think worse case scenario is that he contracts a deadly, contagious illness right before training camp that he then spreads to the rest of the team.

Also worse than anything you mention would be if he were to break a leg or tear an ACL in camp and end up on IR, where he'd still get paid and still count against the cap.

But yes, the risk with Jenkins is about as low as it gets for an NFL contract.

Um....ok. So let me clarify by saying worst case "reasonable" scenario like I did on best case "reasonable" scenario.

That takes away all the fun! Then I can't think about a scenario where Jenkins is the target of a nuclear bomb that will hit during a training camp practice and destroy everything within a few miles radius. I mean, that's an entire football roster and a $325M stadium right there.

Indeed. Jenkins is only a potential problem signing if it stops the team from signing someone else who'd have have a better shot to make the team. I doubt BB would let it get that far.

216 responses on Jag Michael Jenkins??? It must be really slow around here C'mon BB throw us a bone.

he has averaged 40 rec 500 yards and like 4 TD's for he's career sounds like a Gaffney type player to me

This is how I feel. I keep a list of three names under my pillow (Edleman, Lloyd, and Abraham) in the hope that the tooth fairy might grant my wish
and the Pats will sign one of them.

He averages less than 3 TDs per season.
