Welker was never coming to the patriots

If the Denver deal was worse then why didn't the Patriots match it when Welker gave them the opportunity?

Because they had already signed Amendola in the first day of FA, they assumed that Welker was gone.

I always wonder why you spend so much time here when your Jets have so much work to do. I realize they suck but you should really focus on your team, not the Patriots.

Your point that getting rid of great players makes teams better, not worse, was a really good one though, i will try to keep it in mind.

So no team in the history of sports has ever gotten rid of a "great player" and gotten better.

Sounds like some more projecting there? Did you have a happy childhood?

A team can get rid of a great player and get better depending on what other moves them end up making, but getting rid of the great player doesn't make them better, there's a difference, and Illegal Jetfans claim that the bronco's acquisition of Welker makes them worse is patently absurd, which anyone over the age of 8 can understand.

You should really have someone explain what "projection" is before you try using it in a sentence again, that way you won't look quite as stupid.

Not true. See: Celtics this year after Rondo is injured. Sometimes a player not being available forces a rotation that, while not individually better, becomes a better overall team.

Great. Now someone explain that to the whiners here.

Manning is an update over Stokely. It's really that simple.

If you think that Denver's passing game couldn't be upgraded, I guess that's another issue.

everything can always be upgraded, but there always the law of diminished returns......

manning completed 68% last year......welker caught roughly the same percentage, so unless manning instantly implements welker better than brady did, it's not going to change his percentage......

putting welker on the field and taking either decker or thomas off of the field does not make them better......so the only place where the broncos improve is with 3+ WR's, and with that in mind, stokley was a 77% target. on top of that, decker caught 69% and thomas caught 65%......all 3 had a higher yards per catch than welker....

so the bottom line is that if shorter YPC that welker is what consititutes improvement, then I guess he makes them better.....but I still have not seen anyone give a decent detail about how welker will make the broncos offense more effective. unless manning throws more than he ever has, there's a math problem with the notion

Because they had already signed Amendola in the first day of FA, they assumed that Welker was gone.

They could have had him if they wanted him, they didn't they went aggressively after a player with a fraction of his production because they were looking to replace him. i have no problem with the Amendola acquisition, it was a good move, but the Patriots claim they wanted Welker is complete horsh.t. they didn't, that's obvious.

Welker had time to come back to the Patriots and ask them to match an offer (modify his demands to be paid like a number 1 WR) during the tampering period. Welker did not modify his demands and off he went to FA. At that point, the Patriots had to move on.

This has been discussed ad naseum, as such a large Welker fan, I am surprised that you still do not have the facts memorized.

The Patriots had years to get a deal done with Welker but they had no desire to do so, that's obvious, putting it on Welker is complete crap. They were looking at Amendola as an RFA the year before and that's where they always wanted to go, but needed to make sure that deal was done before they stopped stringing Welker along.

Mr . Kraft, is that you? I know you "loved him" and did all you could to keep him a Patriot "for life," even offering him almost as much money as Ochocinco, and we all know he isn't that good. Ocho is big and fast, and his shuttle times were really good, as were his forty splits and madden rating. Thanks for making the big push to keep Welker, future signings should be a breeze when we know the team is going all out to keep those they want the most. Thanks for telling it like it is and not bullsh.ttin us.
This is one you should have thought twice about before hitting submit.

Bringing in the league leader in first downs and YAC makes Manning and the bronco's worse. LMAO.

Why are we worried about assigning blame?
The Patriots offered what they were willing to pay and Welker asked for what he was willing to accept.
Thats how business works.
Other than Deus Irae acting as if the team should pay through the teeth for fond memories and favor smiley faces over winning, what really is the point of this thread.

Except the Patriots didn't take the position you just laid out, they took the position that they wanted Welker "for life" but his side screwed that all up, which really is complete crap. they could have taken your position, or they could have argued that Welker, great as he is, has taken way too many big hits and they needed to find a younger replacement to help Brady finish his career, which they actually did, and that they were simply being proactive and now are set for the rest of Brady's career.

I have accepted the fact that Welker is gone and the Patriots are moving on. i don 't like the way it was handled by any means but that's the way it is. Amendola should be a good player for them ands i'm actually looking forward to seeing how he works with Brady, i just have no tolerance for the idiots who continue to talk sh.t about one of the best players this team has ever had, and the idiotic claims about Amendola being an upgrade or Welker hurting the Bronco's. I should just let them talk their sh.t but much like Godfather 3 they just keep "sucking me back in."

How?

Welker wanted 3/$24. He thought 2/$10 was a joke of an offer. Why? Because he had no clue just how bad the market had changed. It took him all 3 days of the tampering period + the first 2-3 days of FA to realize this. *Then* he asked NE to match that 2/$12 offer. But NE already signed Amendola.

If Welker originally only wanted 2/$12; he'd probably still be here. But he/his agent badly mis-read the market. They were way off. That's on them. That's their fault. They screwed up.

The Patriots rejected that offer, they didn't want him, that's a fact. Welker could have had 7.5 from Tennessee, his market was higher than the 2-10 or 2-12, but winning means more to him than the money, so he took less, and Patriots fans better hope Belichick is right and the Bronco's don't end up knocking them out of the play-offs and winning a Lombardi because if they do the sh.t is going to be all over the patriots face. Speaking personally i would have matched the offer and gone with both Welker and Amendola next season, it would have upgraded their WR corps and kept welker off the Bronco's, which is a worst case scenario imo.

I take it managing to a strict budget isn't in your wheelhouse?

not too bright are ya.......did I say worse?

I don't believe he will make much of a difference given who they already have

the broncos are just happy they got him away from the pats......manning can no longer spot the ball they way brady does and needs to put more air under the ball......welker will have stokley-like numbers and if he has more, it will be because decker and/or thomas will have less.......the net sum won't change though
