Didn't see that it was already posted. Browsing on my phone.

May being the operative term there. Sounds like pretty baseless speculation. I'm actually a little worried that the Broncos will go and grab Abraham, and Dumervil will be too expensive, leaving the Pats with neither.

My thoughts exactly. That is my main concern as well, that we'll lose out on both of them. Honestly, I'm fine with Abraham. I think he's a much better solution as an actual player with a position of DE, who would probably see way more reps. He also would come cheaper to boot.

If they are going to try and grab Dumervil, then they better be prepared to offer up some money while using him no more than 1/2 the time. They'd also need to be prepared to see him suffer in the run game, although that may be masked a bit with our run stuffing players beside him.

Either one is fine with me as Belichick is obviously the expert with better knowledge, but I certainly hope that we can get one or the other.

Yes, but what does Erika Leigh say about all this?

So if we acted quick and took abraham..and denver low balled him...they would have been ever more screwed..d%#*!@t

There is no support for the idea that we could have acted quick and "took" Abraham.

Dumervil was always the first to be decided. Neither Freeney nor Abraham were signing before Denver decided on Dumervil.

When a team offers a player a 5 year deal, I think it's pretty safe to say they would want that player for 5 years.

First of all, I asked where he was seeing this information, and asked for a source, so you don't have to be a **** about providing a link.

Secondly, Breer is wrong about 1/2 the time, and if they really were offering him a long term 5 yr deal we'd have heard it from about 10 other sources.

Third of all, offering him a dummy/fluff 5 yr deal where they could walk away after a couple of yrs (IF true, which I doubt) doesn't prove much more than they wanted to retain him for the immediate future and had to compete with other teams' longer offers.

Fourth of all, IF they actually offered him a 5 yr deal (which hasn't been reported anywhere else out of tons of outlets) they did it at a lowball offer of market value, which would likely have been around 4--4.5 million per year, considering they "settled" on a 1/5 deal.

Fifth of all---many teams offer players longer offers. That doesn't even come close to suggesting that "it's pretty safe to say that they wanted him for the whole 5 years," which is what your exact quote was. Talib hasn't finished the season for 3 straight years with the same two injuries, and you're wrongly trying to claim that Belichick up and lost his mind and was absolutely committed to having him for the next 5 yrs. That's hardly true.

But didn't pats bring in abraham before the whole denver fiasco? Talking if they signed him then and the report came out that they didn't get the fax next day..then denver would be screwed. i forget the days and how close they were to one another

The timeline was this:

Early Friday am/late Thursday night Abraham was reported to be on his way to Foxborough for a visit. That's when we saw the initial report from the guy on reddit who showed the picture of Abraham sitting with a couple of fans.

Then the report came out that Freeny was coming in for a visit too, so they both were scheduled for a Friday visit--although we don't really know the specific times they were here or what the schedule was, we do know that they were both here sometime on Friday.

As of Friday at lunchtime, reports started to surface that Dumervil was leaving DEN. Then about an hr or so later a report came out saying that he changed his mind and decided to take the pay cut and stay. That is how the whole fax problem occurred, because his agent/front office were rushing at the last minute to include certain terms and clauses.

Obviously, Erika deserves a lot of kidding.

It seems to me that no one was discussing the patriot interest in Abraham before she "broke" the story. Yes, she went overboard and presumed that the Dumervil contract would actually get sent to the nfl, leaving Abraham to sign with the patriots on the next day. As it was, Abraham reasonably wants to see if he can more money in Denver that he could get from the patriots; or perhaps, he simply prefers playing for Denver.

Also, she isn't one of those who we should expect to be confirming stories. Rather, it is her stories that are being confirmed.

Her's the breaking news from Erika!

"Nothing today"

Ed Reed tells me via text that he's going to the Texans -- "Nothing official, but unless something changes, yes." So there you have it.

Given all the defection from Baltimore is it crazy to think Houston might be better next year which makes it more of a wash for us.

Houston still has Schaub, Kubiak and Phillips right?

So ya it is crazy to think Houston might be better next year

I'm not sure at this point Reed is an improvement over Quinn, who they lost.
