RB Danny Woodhead gone, signs with Chargers

I loved Woody for what he represented.... Sticking it to the Jets. I wish him well in SD but I'll miss him here.

Good Luck to Woodhead. Great to see the UDFA's with hearth make good.

I thought that Vareen was going to pass him on the depth chart, because of his improvement as a pass blocker and his 'home run' ability. With L Washington returning kicks his role going forward would have been limited. It looks like in SD he was be the solid #2 back for the O.

Hope he torches the Bronco D a couple of times next year. Perhaps the door opens a bit for Demps.

dont really like this move...sure Vereen MIGHT have more versatility....but Woodhead was VERY clutch for brady last year..

Vereen had a big playoff game and started to come on later in the year..but he still played 2nd fiddle to woodhead

behind welker he was a solid security blanket for Brady on several key 3rd down conversions...I dont think he wouldve cost that much so him leaving is surprising to me.

seems like Bill is totally intent on rebuilding the whole offense/reciever corps on the fly this year...some growing pains should be expected IMO

Always a fan of him! surprisingly good hands, will probably play a big part in Chargers passing game, Rivers love this I guess

gl Danny

i'm assuming they'll use him like they once did sproles

chargers have A LOT of holes though, not sure if they'll be a playoff contender for a long time

i wish Welker and woodhead the best of luck but none of them where game changers in the playoffs, the pats are looking to win SB's the main part of the passing game is still there Brady and the TE's the pats will still be a top passing game and im hopeing they will come up big in the playoffs

I am very bummed out. I think he's better than Vereen will ever be.

In today's NFL one good offseason/draft can go a long way. Anything can happen

Field Yates ?@FieldYates

Danny Woodhead has a new home: he's agreed to a two-year deal with the Chargers, reports @MikeReiss.

Thank you Danny Woodhead! You were a great part of the team while you were here. Best of luck with your new life and career. Certainly the weather is a LOT better in San Diego.

Yes, this definitely signals that Vereen will see a bigger role going forward. Sounds like the Pats were not interested in bringing Woodhead back for any serious sum of money.

I'm more pissed about this than Welker

I'm pretty f-ing pissed about letting Woodhead walk, but in all honesty, the writing has been on the wall since Vereen was drafted. I can understand drafting to replace BJGE, but what was the point of doing that for Woodhead? The Pats could have used that pick on D-Backs.

I don't get how GMs can keep underestimating this guy, all he does is produce, yet they continue to ditch him for younger, more "athletic" options. Vereen BETTER put up some numbers.

How about that TD that Woodhead scored in the SB? I guess that didn't change the game at all. Or how about his key third down conversions? Or helping keep Brady's ass off the ground in blitz pickup? Playoffs aren't all about stats...

Well, there go the only two offensive players with the same fire and determination as Brady. There were times last year where Woodhead seemed like the only one on the field that gave a *****. I think the offense lost alot of heart and determination with Woodhead and Welker leaving.

Exactly. There a lot of football fans that like to kiss their own ass and sniff their own farts that think intangibles don't matter, but they do. Numbers can't measure mental toughness. You can recite Vereen's combine numbers to me until my ears bleed (especially his 225 reps, that's pretty damn impressive), but what I saw on the field last year was a guy who still has a lot to learn. He's no *****, but he ran a little light in the loafers; hopefully that'll change...

Welp, there's my second jersey in two days rendered obsolete. At least Faulk and Brown will never be obsolete.

Anyway, sad to see him go, even if just because every time he played and burned the Jest, it was a reminder of how they let him go. I wish him luck. Seems like a good kid, and did a hell of a job as a Patriot.

No way ... Vareen was also way valuable out as a WR ...
he has much more versatility than Woodhead. Hopefully he'll learn to block ... we'll see.

Vareen was our fastest WR last year when he went wide ...
he's extremely valuable and not yet fully utilized as he will be this year.

Thats sad news, i liked watching Owen Meany play. I'm surprised they let him walk, he gave it his all, and put up some good numbers.

He beat a LB on that sideline route he ran, not a CB.

If you want to be technical Slater and Edelman are the fastest WRs on the roster.

Edelman was on IR ... non factor ... like Bill we discuss those who are here.

Slater is a non factor as a WR ... I was at the game and Vareen drew coverage which opened up the field ... Slater opens nothing. If slater could have opened the field he would have been out there.
