I don't know where you spent your winter but we had an unseasonably warm winter last year in N.E.

This wind is going to make the 30" of snow we have about 4 feet in some drifts. I have a good snow blower, but with these winds, it's just going to blow it right back. Crazy!!

Finally got the snowthrower working. I got 2 rows cleared and then a hidden branch locked up the machine.

When people ask me why I want to move back to Florida, I'm going to have this storm to point to.



That aside, I hope everyone out there is safe. Those of you without power, and reading this with a cell phone, or reading it later, I hope you were able to keep warm on a cold blustery evening. God bless.

Some of these stories help me appreciate being stationed in Tampa (it's cold here also, I had to break out my hoodie this morning for the boys baseball games ). However, we're getting moved to St. Louis in July so I will most likely be joining you all in snow stories next year.

From what I've gleaned, it's not exactly normal. Two storm systems collided with one another which caused this.

Was hoping to watch the Bruins game tonight, but driving ban still in effect and MBTA shut down still......looks like they will have to cancel the game, since no one will be able to get to the Garden. No way Jacobs will want to play without any fan$ present to buy his concessions.

The wind is still really whipping around out there and my driveway is impassable despite having already been plowed once. The wind just blows it closed again. My house is buried but as long as I still have heat, food, water and internet, I'm quite happy.

Yes, I recommend Florida. It should be much better there. It's warm all the time, right? They never have any bad weather there.

Halftime! Been outside snow blowing and am taking a break. (NFLN is doing all Ravens-SB47 stuff, so that was NOT an option).

I'm up where the North Shore meets Cape Ann, a few miles off the coast, and we got a solid 24-25 inches (so far). Started a bit wet and that's the biggest challenge -- all that heaver snow from the street plowing piled up at the end of my driveway and in front of my mailbox. Very glad it chilled up as the night went on and the snow got fluffier (based on the few times I've skied, I bet this is GREAT snow for that).

Very happy to get through last night without power loss. Hoping for a repeat with the deep freeze coming tonight.

This is one storm which I look with envy of the person down the street with a snowblower, while i'm shovling away

I have been in some pretty bad snow storms but nothing like you guys are describing here... If you guys get tired of shoveling your driveways and have a bit of spare time maybe you should post some pics so people who aren't from New England can see what you're going through. Or not. But I'm really curious to see what this storm caused..

What I mean is that 50 cm dumps with moderate to strong winds are very normal in countries with winter climates (Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway, French Alps) and the power never goes down. It's at the end of the spectrum for New England, so far as I can see, but in no way beyond reasonable expectations. I can't help thinking that all of this exaggerated, apocalyptic language (Snowmageddon, etc.) serves to distract people from getting righteously angry at the lousy infrastructure and service they get from the power companies that leaves them without power. (OK, end of the politics.)
