Do you think New England has a legitimate shot at signing Ed Reed

The best safety in the league resides in San Diego.

Nah. Byrd is better, faster and way more athletic. His full body diving INT was a HOF type play AND he's consistent.

Weddle is more in the cerebral mold.

I know 40 times can lie, but I have a really hard time believing that a guy who ran 4.68 (Byrd) is faster than a guy who ran 4.48 (Weddle).

I see a lot of people on here saying to sign Reed to a 1 year deal and there's no doubt BB has a man-crush on him...however, if Reed wins the Super Bowl this year, no doubt in my mind that he retires. And if he doesn't win it, do you actually think that Reed would turn his back on the city of Baltimore by signing with one of their biggest rivals, the New England Patriots? I give Reed a 10% shot at landing here.

BB had man crush on the Ed Reed that played in the 2000's not the current addition. I don't even really want him I don't see the benefit and he will prevent a younger player from progressing.

Unless it were for a short term pact of 1-2 yrs, (which I don't see happening, since Reed will likely retire in Baltimore) I'd much rather see any one of the top tier safety FA's chosen like:

William Moore
Byrd
Goldson
Delmas
Phillips

They would give us a more longer term prospect in my opinion.

I'd love to have Reed obviously for a year or two, but I just don't really see it happening.

No. To be honest, I don't want him.

I look at all the conversation about Welker and I'm assuming the Ravens forums are talking in the manner about Reed. I look at it like we have are own aging star why adopt theirs as well.

I see no shot.

1. Reed would only jump if he got shown major bucks. I don't see the Pats going crazy with dollars.

2. Even though Reed and BB/Brady are mutual admirers, there's a lot of bad blood between these teams. Doing a Damon/Adam doesn't seem to be Reed's deal.

3. Reed might view the Pats as the vanquished by now. I have trouble seein him want to move to a team that is arguably his team's byatch.

I agree with your #1 answer by far, but I don't see much reasoning in your #3 to be honest.

I highly doubt that anyone in the NFL would see the NEP as "vanquished."

Also keep in mind that Brady was 5-1 vs Baltimore prior to this season.

They lost a close 1 point game where 2 FG's were very questionable, and either went our way.

They lost Sunday's game in the 4th quarter, as it was 14-13 with 14:00 minutes left.

I agree that Baltimore plays NE very tough, they have a tough defense and a group of experienced players. I highly doubt however, that the NEP are anyone's "b1tch," especially when Brady has now still won 5 of 8 matchups.

As of 2 years ago they had beaten us once in 9 years. They have played NE tough, particularly in the playoffs, but even then our recent record is still 1-2 in recent playoff games. Hardly worthy of "b1tch" status.

I'll say what I said in the other safety thread.

You guys are nuts. Literally insane. Not only is there a better free safety who's supposed to hit the market this year, but he's also ten years younger than Ed Reed. Not only that, but you could steal him from a division rival.

Jairus Byrd is the best free safety in the NFL. Yes. He is.

I just hope your management overlooks Buffalo as much as your fanbase does.

dat Buffalo inferiority complex

He'd be pulling a reverse Ray Allen, leaving his team for the guys they beat, which would make no sense.

So in a thread where most people say no we don't need him or another FS besides the OP, you turn it into a slight against your team

who cares about Reed, who's the hot chick in the gif?

jets have a better chance of getting 10 wins next year than this guy in a pats uniform

This thread title is embarrassing mixed in with the others on the front page. Freud would have a field day with it. Having a dagger in the heart icon next to it would be appropriate. Nice timing, genius.

I would like a younger Safety than Ed reed.

There have been rumors that the Pats may land Ed Reed for several weeks now. We know Belichick is fond of him. Also, reading the Ravens forums, it appears as though a lot of Ravens fans believe he will become a Patriot.

There are rumors that Flacco may be looking for nearly $20 mil/year. If so, that will have a significant impact on their salary cap and thus on their ability to maintain the current balance of their team. The Pats may be better positioned to contend for a title next year. So yes, I would say there is a possibility of him becoming a Pat.

Hey -- where's the "Should the Patriots pursue Joe Flacco" thread???? I mean, come ON. The Pats could trade Brady for Revis, maybe get Coples in the deal, then get Reed! It could happen!

lets sign everyone..cruz,reed,revis,jennings,hartline....why not!

Why would you even want to contemplate doing so? It's as useless as discussing resigning Jim Brown. Ed Reed used to be, and WAS, a great player.

Right now for him is only the Poets verse:

"Do not go gently into that good night,
Rage! Rage, Against the failing of the light."

For Reed there is only one last gasp before the inevitable nightfall.

The only upside of having Reed at this point would be to keep Brady from fearing the middle of the field next year against Baltimore.
