More often than not, that low drop rate didn't do much good, being parked on the sidelines. He had two outstanding games, and also games of 1 catch, 1 catch when targeted 5 times, 2 catches when targeted 7 times....

Edelman and Welker should have nothing to do with each other's signings.
If cheap, Edleman is a useful player. If he wants to be paid like a big boy WR, he will have to find it elsewhere.

Actually, Hernandez would be taking his spot with hopefully an absolute stud WR coming in for the money that Welker wanted and Ballard manning the other TE spot opposite Gronk.

Not a 100% comfortable in having the offense run through Hernandez moving forward. I don't believe he's managed to make it through an entire 16 game season without an injury has he?

Obviously if we move on from 83 Hernandez would be the best fit to fill that role moving forward...but the possibility of not having Welker, Hernandez going down early with an injury, and Brady having to rely heavily on a WR new to the system worries me a bit.

Won't even be needed in special teams if jeff demps plays.

As of right now Edelman has a better chance of making the team than Demps. I don't get the assumption that Demps is an absolute lock to make the team, we've literally seen nothing from the kid yet.

The assumption that the Pats could get Amendola is another thing that doesn't make sense to me. The thought process seems to be if the Pats wants him they can get him...what makes you think St. Louis will even let it get that far?

Welker as the Dolphins #3 receiver in 2006 (only 2 games started):
67 catches in 99 targets for 687 yards.

Amendola as the Rams #1 receiver in 2012 (11 games started):
63 catches in 101 targets for 666 yards.

Wes was more productive as part time #3 receiver and special teams stalwart than Amendola was as a full time (except when hurt) #1 receiver.

Plus that 666 yard figure is creepy.

I agree with you. I was just stating that it would be Hernandez, and not Edelman, that would be playing that role should the team move on. Personally, I've been pretty vocal about the team keeping Welker. But, should they decide to move on (a very real possibility, unfortunately), I'm also of the hope that they sign a physical, big bodied receiver that can threaten every level of the field to mitigate the loss as much as possible. Retaining Welker and Talib and bringing in that kind of receiver (in the mold of a Demaryius Thomas) would be ideal, though.

Of course he would. One of the huge negatives about letting Welker walk is that both Gronk and Hernandez would get that much more attention.

Hernandez is an H-Back more than a true TE. If the team thought that lining up in the slot or split wide would negate a lot of his advantages, they would never do it. Neither would the Gators have. Fact remains that if Welker walks, there is nobody currently on this team more suited to try to take his role than Hernandez... and that includes Edelman.

That's awfully generous. It's a bigger deal if you make it 20, and that's a completely reasonable number.

For the record, setting the cutoff at 10, Edelman has the fourth-highest return average over the last four years.

Move the cutoff to 20, and he ranks second in PR average.
