Brandon Lloyd - I dunno...

yep, we really need a burner. Where is Chad Jackson when you need him??

Deion Branch is Deion Branch.

Brandon Lloyd was a major upgrade over Chad Ochocinco.

The stench of the Chad Ochocinco trade will still be felt in 2013 with the loss of a sixth round draft pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and dead money against the 2013 salary cap.

2013 NFL Draft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oh come on AT, let the Chad Ochocinco die already! The Patriots just clinched a bye today :D

Never wanted Chad "don't know the playbook" Ochostinko nor Albert "fat lazy arse" Haynesworth.

Yes, I know about your feelings on "OchoStinko". You made that abundantly clear through the 2011 season/2012 off season. I was just trying to steer you to happier thoughts given today's results..... :rocker:

I enthusiastically approved the Brandon Lloyd acquisition especially since Brandon Lloyd accepted the "home town discount".

Meh, ya it is never great to lose draft picks. But with the drafts the Pats have had since 2010 and the players on this team from said drafts. And the round of that Ocho pick we gave up. The risk was worth the reward(obviously no reward).

I would not be surprised if the Pats use this draft to bolster there picks for the fowling year draft..

Not to say losing that 6th pick was good.

A sixth round pick has only a small chance of making the team and that chance is only slightly better than that of an undrafted player out of college. And there a plenty of those for Bill to cull through. I wouldn't worry about it.

Great point (another poster also eluded to this). TFB has a lot of places to throw the ball. If JE would have stayed healthy I would not be surprised if he had 40+ (I think he ended up with 25). I think Woody had something approaching 40. Taking out BL that's around 290 friggin receptions to those other 5 guys.....about 18 per game to these 5 guys. When you see it through those stats and consider how potent the running game was this year, BL ending up with 70+ is far from disappointing.

But, but, but FredfromDartmouth says he doesn't scare defenses as much as Randy Moss did. He's a bust!!!!!!!

Remember, Patriots went to SB, WITHOUT Ocho (eventhough he was on the roster).

Lloyd needs to step up now, more than ever, in the playoffs to give the vertical threat.

I still believe Lloyd-Brady timing still needs more time to gel. Yesterdays, game, where Brady threw the ball outside to Lloyd was too low and left.

My problem with Brandon is that he doesn't get separation. If he got consistently a step or two on the CB, I'd like him a whole lot better than I do now.

True, but then again, at least he can make ridiculous sideline catches. He's all the patriots got for now to make downfield plays. Hopefully, the Patriots can upgrade the talent and depth, resign Welker, get a speedy wideout on the FA market.

Brandon Lloyd did exactly what the Patriots needed yesterday. He kept the best CB on the Dolphins busy outside with a safety over the top while Welker, Hernandez, Gronk and even Branch worked the middle.

Lloyd's job is to make the play when the opponent decides to take away the inside and let him run around outside, It's the classic pick your poison scheme and to have a guy with 70+ catches and 900+ yards on the outside does the trick. The Patriots were #1 in points, ypg, 1st downs (NFL record) and you name it. Lloyd was a bigger part of that than his statistics reveal.

Who's the best wideout in the NFL? Megatron? Not in the playoffs. Larry Fitzgerald? Not in the playoffs. Seriously.

In the end it's a team game.

The guy had 74 catches for 911 yards and 4 TDs this season. He also had 50 catches for first downs. Yet people are killing the guy.

If the expectations were not so high for him, people would be singing his praise. If say Edelman had these numbers, people on this board would be putting him in Canton.

Lloyd has been the best outside WR the Pats have had since Moss in 2009. Is a deep threat? No. Can he do things better? Yes. Is he the best WR the Pats have had in years not named Welker? Absolutely.

Pretty much nailed it here, Rob. I think part of this is the early play fixing the final impression. We saw that a lot this year. Brady/Patriots and Rodgers/Packers struggled early, so they were always behind in the MVP, even though both QBs had better years than did Manning. In the case of Lloyd, the struggles when he was the #1 target have stayed with a lot of people, even though he's been much better used as the 3rd or 4th receiving option.

In addition, Lloyd has been recently nursing a knee injury.

Snaps: Lloyd's 31 a season low - New England Patriots Blog - ESPN Boston

Brandon Lloyd’s knee appeared to be a pre-game question mark as he was seen working out on the field in front of members of the team’s athletic training and medical staff about two hours before kickoff. That probably also explains why the Patriots promoted receiver Kamar Aiken from the practice squad Saturday but didn’t dress him for the game (there was probably enough question with Lloyd so the Patriots’ coaching staff probably felt it had to protect itself). Lloyd’s 31 snaps were a season low (previous low, 34, vs. Colts), as he was replaced in 2-WR packages for most of the game, with Deion Branch taking his spot. Branch’s 62 snaps are 1 shy of his season-high (63 vs. Seahawks on Oct. 14).

he has 74catches and 900+ yards...I think he has been just fine...those expecting him to be moss were expecting too much imo.

the pats may not have many true "wide receivers" but they have one of the best receiving corps in the NFL because Hernandez/Gronkowski are also receivers(not to mention woodhead)

Yup that is the key. Dominant TEs and Welker. Few teams can cover them except teams with exceptional LBs and safeties such as San Fran alas....

This offseason one of the top needs will be a true WR. I just hope that Bill signs a FA and does not try to draft one. We all know his history drafting WRs (and the ones he missed)...

Attacking the linebackers will be key in the Patriots/Broncos matchup in the AFC title game if it happens. The Tight Ends will need to create mismatches in the middle of the field and draw more defenders in the box. And then, Lloyd can do his damage with one on one coverage.

Well if there is to to be an AFC title game between the two, have you seen what some TE have done to the broncos this season?

Gonzalez 7 for 70 1 TD
Gates 6 for 81 2 TD
Gresham 6 for 108
Olsen 9 for 102 2 TD
Pitta 7 for 125 2 TD

Not to mention last year

Gronk 10 for 145 3 TD
Hernandez 9 for 129 1 TD

Brady/Gronk/Welker/Hernandez is the most awesome and expensive passing game skill-position collection in the league, if not the history of the league. Lloyd is pretty impressive for a #4 starting receiver. Call for an upgrade if you like, but I think you're overstating the need.

I agree. If my ex-wife consistently gave me money and performed certain sex acts, I'd like her a whole lot better than I do now.
