The 2012 season: the Jets [Mod Edit: STILL] suck

Defensive coordinator Mike Pettine, Rex's right hand man, is apparently the one who's been leaking stuff to the media. There's also a rumour that the Jets suspected Pettine and reprimanded him last season, forcing him to use a specific phone for all purposes so the team could monitor his calls.

Mike Pettine is Deep Throat. - Jets Insider.com Forums

Someone has leaked that Woody's not happy about all the leaks:

Housecleaning seems unlikely, but Jets owner remains disappointed - CBSSports.com

Good stuff:

Indeed, this season, or rarely any other, has a team's internal doings been so freely broadcast. From Rex Ryan's future plans in television should he be fired to Tim Tebow's refusal to run the Wildcat to any other number of stories. It's no wonder the passing of bowels was not leaked.

It was actually an amazing thing to witness. There has maybe been no team, ever, in which any number of people leaked various intensions due to varying agendas publicly. Look at al of the top franchises in football. The Patriots, Packers, Giants—there are leaks but few. The best teams have managers and coaches in place who are able to unify a franchise and keep most of the players, coaches and front office personnel on message.

The Patriots are the cone of silence. The Jets are a spaghetti strainer.

If Woody's upset about a team built to cater to the media headlines, he's going to have to start by looking in the mirror.

Some RayRay "wisdom" here:

Without Brady, the Patriots are an extremely average team. Anybody who promotes their roster other than the obvious key players, Gronk, Wilfork, and Hernandez doesn't know football.

The Pats on defense have been one of the worst in the league for years, and without Brady slinging it, and keeping defenses off balance, their are even offensive players that are average players but are pimped by fans because of Brady.

When was the last time a Patriots defense finished a season ranked last in any important category making them the "worst"?

Obviously Welker, Solder, Mankins, Vollmer. Woodhead, Ridley, Mayo, Talib & McCourty are all JAGS

The saying "Most people are idiots" is becoming more and more true by the moment in this country.

yes, quite true...however the saying "Jets fans are morons" has ALWAYS been an absolute...since the first green slime oozed forth from primordial muck...

Now Joker, your mocking primordial muck. Primordial muck does not have a fast mouth, completely useless head coach, a QB that will be forever known for his buttfumble, an defense line that that is like swiss cheese, and a coaching staff that should be in high school.

So primordial muck is so much better than the Jest in many many ways.

Is that even legal in the NFL. I know they do it all the time in baseball. Can one team pay part of a players contract when he's playing for another team.

Nope. There are things they could to to make a contract more paletable like converting some salary to bonus prior to a trade to make a player more paletable. But then they have to absorb the cap hit so it generally doesn't happen. Instead the tradeoff comes in taking far less than the talent is worth. Then the new team absent the dead cap constrictions renegotiates a long term deal of their choosing. Trading Revis wouldn't be a slam dunk for other than financial reasons though. His current deal voids after 2013 so he'd be a rental in need of extension. Teams will question the post ACL player value not to mention his value in another scheme (see Asomugha, Nnamdi...). All of which will impact/limit his trade value.

This one is too funny:

Per source, #Jets have had internal talks about hiring Norv as the OC AND trading Sanchez to SD for in a deal that will bring Rivers to NY.

https://twitter.com/Steiny31/status/285437819848114176

Seriously, what perspective Chargers' GM is going to trade Rivers for Sanchez? Even if the Jets threw in two firsts and two seconds in the deal, the $8.25 million guarantee for Sanchez is too much. Maybe if the Jets eat $6-7 million and offer two firsts and a second, the new Chargers' GM might listen. Then again, I doubt it even with the massive decline of Rivers.

Yet again, it is the Jets brass and coaching staff living in a fantasy world. I have no fears that the Jets will be good any time soon.

And so we fall further behind the JEST in the quest for an off-season superbowl...

And, in the case of Sanchez, he can't renegotiate his contract until March 10 at the earliest. . . . since he renegotiated in March of this year.

what a wonderful end to a feces filled season for the worst franchise in sports history...

Hopefully we look back at this debacle of a season and it will have gotten us in position to grab the pass rusher this D needed to put it over the top.

This has been the most satisfying Jests season ever.

Wasn't that supposed to be Craples?

Rex Ryan: "If I thought Tebow would have helped us win the game playing QB or DT, I would have played him."

Ouch. Way to build his JAX trade value too, genius...

I know because I'm so histrionic that sometimes everyone thinks it's hyperbole but he IS a disaster as a head coach...he is NOT mentally capable, barely physically capable and definitely NOT emotionally capable.

Ryan simply spouts off and says what he's thinking.

Whoops! I misapplied the verb, to think.

A guy walks into a bar with his pet dog. The bartender says, "No pets allowed."

The man replies, "This is a special dog. Turn on the Jets game and you'll see. Whenever the Jets score, my dog does flips."

The Jets keep scoring field goals, and the dog keeps flipping and jumping.

"Wow! What happens when the Jets score a touchdown?"

The man replies, "I don't know. I've only had him for 7 years."

If it were not for the liking of the media for rex ryan because he helps them do their job with quotes, he would be crucified right now. I cant understand how everyone says he is a great coach and players want to play for him. He is a great DC. Not a HC.
