I would really enjoy this board more if there was more moderating. I think folks would not miss the drama posts very much, however, when they are on the main board folks get curious and get sucked into the drama. I might even post more and visit the site more if there was less "nitpicking" and "pissing contests". I feel like if folks would try to be less defensive this drama could clear up fairly quickly. but, change for many of us does not come easy and I think the best solution is to add an "Off Topic? Wayward Thread" section to this fine site.

its nice to hear the ideas of infrequent posters. Just because you haven't posted in awhile, don't be afraid not to put your opinion out.

And if NEM does something banable, ban him - and if others do something banable, ban them.

That's the quickest way to keep things in check around here.
An original idea, I'd feel quite comfortable to know AJ and the other mods had that power.

You would have been banned a long, long time ago...Along with your posse.

While I may be a pain in the ass with my repetitive posts...none of them are personal attacks on fellow posters.

You, on the other hand, and your little crew, have made numerous, direct personal attacks, some with obsceneties, towards me, and to a few other posters too.

This is not the other place where thay condone the kind of filth that you like to spew out. You have violated the rules of this forum like no one else has, and if anyone deserved to be banned, its you.

You should thank Ian for not doing it..., even though at one time I thought that you shold be banned, ....because I, for one, dont bellieve in banning unless it is for profanity directed at a fellow poster, or other personal attakcks towards a fellow poster.

You have violated that rule, the most important rule in this forum, over and over again. But, I will give you credit, you have learned a very covert, and sneaky manner in geting it done.

However, more and more of the good posters in this forum are slowly, but surely, getting wise to your antics. As you may have noticed from their posts.

But, not to worry, you can always go back to the slime, elsewhere.

Have a nice day, fellow Pats fan. I still love you, if for only one reason, that you ARE a Pats fan. And I have no discourse for anyt of them, at all.

NEM, he didn't quote you. He merely agreed with another poster that if someone does something worthy of being banned, they should be banned. Hardly controversial. I really don't see your need to get all defensive.

My suggestions would be :

1. Inform the main protagonists that the creating of 'vendetta' threads is not acceptable behaviour.

2. Give them a single warning about their future conduct regarding this matter.

3. If they break the code of conduct then lock the thread (or delete if you have that power) and ban the transgressor for good.

There is no need for any middle ground, any compromises, all the people involved in this never ending fiasco are well aware of how they should be conducting themselves on this board.

One false move, and you are out.

To be anymore lenient suggests a lack of fortitude.

Nemmie was frightened and lashed out in his inimitable style. Should AJ and the other mods ever be given the authority to ban violators, his worst nightmares would be given life.

You would be the first to go. Take that to the bank.
Perhaps, but I do not share your fright over mods with banning power. You probably should start you mod appreciation threads, I'm sure Ian wouldn't mind your kissing their backsides for a change.

It seems that every time I sign into this board, it is filled with non-football threads, that are just about people whining about each other, usually NEM vs the world.
My inclination as moderator is to just delete or lock those threads, but they get an awful lot of posts, so there may be people here who enjoy them.
I'd like everyones opinion. Should those type of threads live on as part of what the board is about, or should they be deleted?

************ Mods. Look what's happening to your (our?) forum because of one nut. Please take control and stop hiding behind the free and open exchange rationale. Control this child, please, I beg you.

Andy, if I were moderator, my inclination would be to lock any thread which had turned into a personal attack or said, "ban so and so". I would contact the individual involved via PM, cc it to Ian and explain that they can use the PM system to address problems.

I agree. Let's introduce zero tolerance.

BTW, as a Manchester United fan actually from Manchester, I don't believe I ever said thanks for the Raddy Antic goal that sent City down in the 80s. When I think of Luton Town, I think of the plastic pitch, Steve Foster and others from that era.

They shouldn't be catered to. They should be ignored. And yet, they're not, because sometimes people just like to fight. It's completely natural. Most of the time I don't want to be bothered with that crap, but sometimes it's very cathartic, as well.

Just ask gomezcat, who recently called me "fart face".

. Yeah, we had a thread on the political forum about whether insults win arguments. So being the child that I am, I did my usual "I'm better because I'm not American" routine and then called Fixit fart face. It was all clearly in good fun though and that is an essential difference.

What is happening on this board is NOT in good fun.

Lock 'em down, Andy, lock 'em down. The selfishness of thread hijackers or look-at-me-ers is an epidemic, detracting immensely from the discussion on this board. One worry is that these posts will proliferate further, like spam or pop-up ads (or VD), in which case the poster should be banished immediately. You may also grow tired of the exercise. These posts are a plague, and the sources of many have no other purpose in life but simultaneously annoy and draw attention to themselves. If you do this, some will take it as a personal challenge. Thus, you may want want a rule: If someone is the cause of a lock-down more than X times, ban them. This is a self-regulated community, and some attempt at limiting feeble-minded, self-aggrandizing, pointless and idiotic threads is overdue.

Lock them down, these types of thread dilute the Patriots Passion and knowledge that I seek on this board.. he said, she said should be regulated to a grammer school board.

Please, please lock 'em if you don't want to censure/ban inappropriate posters.

But to me a larger problem is when otherwise excellent threads get hijacked, not sure what you can do about that (again without censuring/banning), but it really is unfortunate and frustrating.
