Chicago Bears Defense this year

This is why the Bears are so good at forcing turnovers:

Tillman has seven of these so far these year. That's amazing technique, and it's definitely coached. The Bears are always good at this.
Is it wrong to find that play... ahem... sexy?

Cutler seems to be their weakest link, no doubt

Their offensive line is their weakest link and it always has been. They're a liability. Cutler has been a chew toy in that Bears offence ever since he arrived there.

The guys is a huge weapon to have. If you can protect him consistently, you're screwed.

Not worried at all about them.

Cutler has a penchant for playing small in big moments. I don't agree with your comment. He has his bail out back in Marshall. That could prove effective come January.

The 49ers have a better defense than the Bears in pretty much all the categories that matter - yards allowed, ppg, 3rd down stops etc. The Bears are 5th in yards per play behind the 49ers, Steelers, Seahawks and Texans.

They have a very good defense but not epic like the '00 Ravens or the '85 Bears. They are opportunistic and are on pace to blow away the defensive scoring record.

If a team can protect the ball and not turn it over - like the New England Patriots or the NY Giants - they are beatable.

The top five in turnover ratio through week 9 - in order - are Chicago, NY Giants, New England, Atlanta, Tampa Bay, Houston and Baltimore. Looks like playoff teams (except Tampa Bay). Any of these teams can match the Bears with takeaways, evening the playing field a lot.

The last time I said that about a QB was when Jake Plummer ended TB's playoff winning streak at Mile High.
Cutler has a world of talent and now can play the role of a Trent Dilfer, except with skills.

Agreed, give Cutler SOME credit here. The Bears started out 7-3 last year with him and looked like a strong NFC contender, then Cutler goes down and they don't even make the playoffs. He may have been a bit overrated at one point and a total prick but his record over the past 3 seasons doesn't lie.

The team's weak point is their Oline, which I believe will do them in eventually.

Crazy part about that punchout fumble caused is that Tillman and co. were basically calling their shot - they wanted the first offensive play to result in a turnover.

It was intriguing to listen to Tillman afterward discussing the turnover philosophy that runs through the defense, one that SI detailed in January. "This week,'' he said, "our whole motto was, 'Let's start fast. Defense, let's force a turnover on the first play of the game.' ''
