.... In 2010, an arrest warrant was issued by Garland, TX because he supposedly discharged a gun at his sister's boyfriend. He was indicted for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, but those charges were dropped due to insufficient evidence AND the character issues with the boyfriend. The boyfriend is a registered sex offender and is currently in jail on charges of indecency with a child/sexual contact. The Boyfriend had ALSO been charged earlier in the day with assault and interference with and emergency phone call. My guess is that the boyfriend had been in a domestic dispute with Talib's sister and had gotten rough with her. Talib and his mom got over there and they got into it. And the boyfriend made up the story to try and ruin the Star football player. Doesn't excuse Talib's actions, but they are understandable....

I agree with you on your points, but there are few corrections to the quoted part of your post:
1) That incident took place in march 2011.
2) Talib was acquitted from all charges, becouse there was not enough evidence against him and there were charracter concerns regarding the boyfriend. THE BOYFRIEND IS IN THE BIN AND A KNOWN REPEAT CHILD MOLESTER. So no reason to judge Talib in any way regarding that, becouse it was most likely just that psycho BF harrassing him.

About the Addrall suspension he is on right now, correct me if I'm wrong but I think he has ADHD and that is the drug they prescribe to him. So essentially he just took a drug that he is allowed to take, but did it without a valid prescription. Hardly a felony.

Now, all of you "charracter concern" and "patriot way" mumblers in here should really go and listen some of his interviews. To me he seems like a regular guy who has been victimized by the media who loves to feast on all plausible charracter issues on public persons, no matter how far-fetched they are.

I hate how some people pretend to be so pure and saintly and at the same time make such harsh judgements on people.

Bunch of hypocrites I say.

well...YOU may be happy he's here but after reading this thread I'm not so sure HE will be happy he's here....hasn't even played a snap yet and he's Jack the Ripper, the 2nd gunman on the grassy knoll and the genetic result of triple cloning using Rae Carruth's, Cecil Collins and Lawrence Phillips DNA...

Scratch that part. Obviously I remember this wrong. At least no article came up about whether he has ADHD or not.

I just have to ask...are you Finnish??

yeah..cuz I went to Finland once...yeah,I was selling swim fins to this Helsinki cold plunge resort...anyway, one night I'm looking for a good bar and I spot Finn Flanagan's Fjord bar with this line out front, so I figure this looks like a likely spot to while away a night...I walk up to the doorman and it's a fin to get in...so I pay the cover and guess what happens next?...I run into this guy Mickey Finn and didn't wake up for two days...yeah...that's the ticket...

I am, and I have to admit that you had some old ones but few very fresh ones in there as well.

I wonder if his ADD will actually help him -- he won't be able to be coached into regression as easily as our other CBs have

This is too much. I thought I had seen your homerism at its peak. It's not too much to ask for the team you root for to hold higher standards for its athletes? Kraft passed on Vincent Jackson for the same "family value" reasons, but since the Pats have changed their tune, there always Andy Johnson out there to explain why everyone is wrong for questioning the Pats about anything.

Dude, it has nothing to do with the Patriots and what they do.
If you want to make football players your childrens role models, go for it, and be prepared for the disappointment.
My opinion has been consistent for 40 years.

Not accurate. The shooting at the boyfriend was March 21st, 2011.

In Oct 2012, he got nailed for a banned substance in Oct in which he took during TC

Plus he did stuff in 2010, 2009, 2008.

Every single year it's something...and I'm still glad he is here.

Instead of trying to go out of your way to prove me wrong, do yourself a favor and READ what is posted. It would do you a world of good.

I mentioned both the 2008 and 2009 incidents. There was NO incident in 2010. 2010 was when Herr Goodell gave Talib the 1 game suspension from the 2009 incident. The only thing I got wrong was that the shooting incident was on March 21st. I thought it was in December of 2010 and that it took them until March to issue the warrant. Whoopee..

Nothing you posted contradicts the fact that Talib had all charges dropped in the shooting case because the witness is a sex offender with severe credibility issues and was just arrested AGAIN for indecency with a child.

Now, as for the Adderall, it was a procedural thing. He didn't file the prescription with the league the way he's supposed to. The same thing that Spikes did. Newsflash. Spikes is still taking the adderall. He has been for years. He was open about it during the combine.

So, no, every single year it isn't something. But, you keep on thinking otherwise. Especially since nothing he's done has earned him a felony conviction like Donte Stallworth. Or two DUIs that show a complete disregard for the community around you.

Yes.

you made that up

I didnt say it was wrong to question the Patriots, I said expecting Aqib Talib or any football player to be your daughters role model is wrong.

Pretty wild case in the March 2011 gun play. Somebody must have fired some shots or the police wouldn't have arrested people. It reads like the Brandon Merriweather case. Lots of chaos, gunshots, police trying to sort the mess out and arrested the most famous and physically imposing guy at the scene. The DA wouldn't have dropped the case if the evidence were indisputable. Goodell is a hardass lawyer, and he wouldn't have dropped it if the state had a decent case. Talib will have a short leash.

You did get your facts wrong and that is not my fault- it is yours. Saying that I went out of my way to prove you wrong is ridiculous. Spare me. Get over yourself. It took all of 30 seconds to determine that your facts were wrong and determine you believe that Talib is a poorly misunderstood individual.

Procedural issue? LOL. If you think he took Adderall because the only reason he has ADD then you don't get why athletes and college kids take it in the first place.

Explain him beating the crap out of the cab driver? Going nuts on the ref? He rookie teammate? Regardless if the sister's BF was a scumbag, he still has a screw loose and has anger management issues regardless of how far apart the events are.

Yeah, that must have been a real beating if the case got dropped.

Going nuts on the ref?

Most of the Patriots defense has gone nuts at a ref at one point or another this season, a lot of players do.

If he keeps his nose clean here, good - on the field he will improve the team and if he helps the team lift another Lombardi then it's a great trade.

You have your issues mixed up. For the cab driver, they reached a settlement out of court and he was suspended for a game.

Most of the Patriots defense has gone nuts at a ref at one point or another this season, a lot of players do..

He gets a pass on this but according to league sources, he was almost suspended for a game. The ref also went postal on Talib so the issues evened out.

If he keeps his nose clean here, good - on the field he will improve the team and if he helps the team lift another Lombardi then it's a great trade.

Couldn't agree more. I'm cool with BB giving him a clean slate and within reason people getting second chances in life. But for folks to think hes a victim of circumstances, a foolish kid or just has buzzards luck and he doesn't have some issues has their head in the sand.

I was checking out PP and chevss454 posted that he heard from a Pats beat writer that the Pats got permission to speak with Talib before the trade and that he is thrilled to be coming to the Pats and getting a fresh start. I hope that means that an extension is in the works.

As I mentioned much earlier in this thread, I've watched many, many Bucs game cuz they are always broadcast here locally. Talib is one of the most physically imposing CB's in the league, combine that with his very aggressive style and you have a immediate upgrade to our squad. I can't wait to see how he looks on our team. If he brings his A game and stays outta trouble we will all be screaming for a LT contract for him, but we'll just have to see how it all turns out after the season is over, but this guy CAN play and he is gonna help our secondary a LOT!

A buddy of mine that lives in TB says that his play has dropped off in recent years and the numbers tend to show that. In the few times I've seen him play he looks pretty damn good to me. Your thoughts?

And according to him "Pats are really happy with the Talib acquisition. Their plan is to use Talib and McCourty at CB if/when Chung and Gregory get healthy so long as Chung pledges to do his job and quits guessing/gambling with a fall back plan of McCourty at S with Talib and Dennard at CB. Wilson and Arrington for depth and nickel/dime."

He takes a lot of chances and the Bucs pass rush basically sucks so consequently he gets burned a lot. I have to believe BB will have him playing it closer to the vest, so to speak. He's been out of the lineup due to the suspension so much of my memory is from last year. He can definitely cover opposing teams big WR's better than anyone we currently have on our roster....

Again, we'll all be focused on him when he gets in there. I'm really looking forward to it.....

Thanks for the link to PP. Very interesting.

I also assumed that they did an extensive background check on Talib and i'm sure that they didn't like everything they saw (like Dillon and Haynesworth) they figured they have nothing to lose so what the heck.

Yea their defense has been pretty putrid and especially horrific up front.

Maybe it's a miracle his numbers have been as good as they have been?
