Pats get CB Aqib Talib from the Bucs !!

The New England Patriots signed more unrestricted free agents than lost, so the New England Patriots will not be eligible for compensatory draft picks:

Robert Gallery
Brandon Lloyd
Jabar Gaffnatey
Donte Stallworth
Anthony Gonzalez
Daniel Fells
Spencer Larsen
Jonathan Fanene
Trevor Scott
Steven Gregory
Marquice Cole
Only players that make the team count, which out a good number of those, plus the ones we list got higher contacts so we could get picks but later on, maybe a 6th rounder or so

Corey Dillon was an azzole...but a vital cog..right?...I mean, the complaints when they signed him were in the same ballpark as talib

Haynesworth was a lazy jacka$$...they tried him...it didn't work out...personally, I survived quite well going forward after this TRAGIC event...and yes that is hyperbole.

There was a thread devoted to the cutting of Fanene this September...the wailing, teeth gnashing, doom proclaiming ,violently contentious thread boiled for a month...FOR WHAT??????

Rodney Harrison..."team cancer!!!"...right

the point is, the Pats make moves with the eye to improving what they already are putting on the field...personally I WANT the team I follow to act proactively...I do NOT want some warped sense of what is proper and what isn't to stifle this team into timidity...if you are scared to take chances you will NEVER get better than you are..it's simple...if you fail, you TRY AGAIN...this is the path to success.

So we gave up a 4th round pick for Talib and a 7th. Well, I like the gamble. Talib is still on suspension and will be eligible to play Nov 11th against the Bills. We certainly needed more talent at CB. Hope that Talib can pick up our defense and play better than the other guys we have there right now.

Here's Talib's 2008 draft profile:
*Aqib Talib | Kansas, CB : 2008 NFL Draft Scout Player Profile

He ran a 4.44 40 and has good size at 6'1. So he's certainly a departure from the usual short CBs that the Pats have drafted in the past. Dowling (IR) excepted.

The Summer of Gronk was also very typical for the "Patriot Way" ... I don't know what they were thinking giving him a new contract, they should've cut him!

As long as the locker room is functional and they perform good I couldn't care less if a player has a thing with a pornstar or that he has a sex tape. Moss, Hernandez, Dillon,Spikes all weren't typical Patriots when they were brought to this organization and boy I wouldn't want to miss one of those.

Now Felger and the other jackals in the press will have something fresh to complain about. Endlessly......backwards and forward...again and again.

And Felger and the other douches will do their best to drive Talib out of town as they did to Moss....ugh.

Actually he'll have over 2 weeks to get acclimated since he isn't coming back until AFTER the Buffalo game
BTW- to give it some prospective, its more likely that the comp pick we get for Welker will be higher than the one we lost for Talib... (just a year later) And who knows. Maybe we'll get something for Anderson. (boy I bet he can't be too happy about THAT decision.....except those days he visits the bank.)

I'm sure he has an app on his phone linking him to his bank balance, and looks at it many, ,many times a day.

Like Allen Pinkett said, adding a few criminals just adds to the chemistry of the team.

Good pickup.

Felger was happy with the trade.

Bedard and the AFC personnel exec think a 4th is too much.

A 4th to shore up the position that prevents this team from being stellar is cheap.

Would you give up a 4th to save your season?

That's cheap.

Just did some research on Talib. He's rated 89 on this year's madden.

Forget Talib.

We got a seventh!!!
You know how much Belichick loves those seventh round picks!
We got another seventh!

What did we have to give up for it?

Considering we've drafted scrubs like Chung, Butler, Wheatley, Dowling just recently early in the second round, I'd have to say a 4th round pick for a proven performer like Talib is highway robbery.

LOL, you're joking right?

Anyways the saying goes, "Nothing ventured, nothing gained."

BB is taking a calculated risk. But considering that it's only a 4th round pick and we're getting a 1st round talent back in return. I can totally understand the risk. On top of that secondary is one of our most DIRE needs this season.

Therefore Talib represented the last possible opportunity to upgrade the secondary before next year. Today was the trade deadline afterall.

Sure the move may not work out, but it has a TON of upside to it. If Talib 'buys in' to the Patriot Way and learns to play his assignments properly. The Pats secondary just got IMMENSELY better on paper.

Oh I need to correct myself, it looks like Talib won't be eligible to play until the Colts game. I incorrectly said he would be eligible for the Bills. Somehow, I think the Pats will be able to weather the storm that is Fitzpatrick's noodle arm. This gives Talib two weeks of practices to acclimate and learn the system before being thrown into the fire.

Now that we know the Patriots traded a fourth-round pick (and received a seventh back), I personally don’t like the deal as much. But if this season ends with a Super Bowl title, it’s obviously a terrific move. It does speak to the Patriots’ obvious desperation at the position.

I like the deal but let's wait until the final contract details (extension?)
are announced to pass final judgement.

The number of players the New England Patriots retained from the unrestricted free agency signing period is still greater than the number lost.

To receive a compensatory draft pick, a team has to lose more qualifying free agents than they signed. The only exception to this rule is when a team has a net loss of 0, but the value of the free agents lost is greater than the value of the free agents signed, then the team would get one 7th round comp pick.

yeah...I mean...WTF...so Bedard quotes "anonymous" AFC personnel execs who slam Talib as a "character risk!!!" and then one supposed exec exclaims breathlessly "who were the Pats competing against for Talib's services??"...uh gee...I don't know...hey didn't some AFC team lose their #1 corner and last week got torn to little pieces at home by a BACKUP QB???

DUH

They paid a high price for a player that might have been straight released, so I don't see why you're arguing on this point. If the guy helps them win the Super Bowl, nobody's going to care what the cost was. If he busts, the cost will be noted repeatedly. And, with this sort of baggage-involved trade, that's how it should be.
