This has an opening post with good commentary and information, which we definitely recommend reading.

Is Mark Sanchez the worst top-5 drafted QB ever? He has to be close. To me, it isn't just that he's a bust, it's the complete lack of physical tools that suggest he should have been drafted high. Doesn't have ideal height or arm strength. Doesn't have mobility or pocket presence. Doesn't have field awareness or accuracy.

Even guys like Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell, you can see at least some amazing physical gifts and there was once hope that they could translate those into success.

The Jets love to talk about Eli Manning's early struggles, but remember even during his rookie year, Eli showed flashes of greatness. It was obvious, not in his stats, but in the eye test, that Eli was capable of developing into a great QB. He had the intelligence, leadership, height, and arm strength to do it. Matt Stafford was taken first overall in Sanchez's draft, and it is clear that he has the physical abilities to be special and therefore he was worth the pick.

I am truly baffled about why Mark Sanchez was drafted highly, when so many other physically gifted QBs have been available in the last five years. I look at Sanchez and just cannot imagine there aren't better options at backup or even third-string QB- guys that have very limited ability and may one day be able to manage a game without mistakes at best.

I really can't agree with you on this one. First off, I consider drafting QBs based on "physical gifts" a classic mistake. Second, Sanchez is fine when it comes to physical tools. Not a spectacular specimen, but NFL caliber in all respects -- pretty much a physical clone of Aaron Rodgers.

But above all, this was not what anybody said when he was drafted. The knock on Sanchez was 100% youth and inexperience, not physical shortcomings. And the consensus was that the Jets got lucky to nab him when he did, thanks to a sweetheart trade from the recently departed Mangini.

For giggles, here's the pre-draft scouting report on Sanchez's positives from NFLDraftScout:

Ascending talent whose intangibles for the position are just as impressive as his physical tools. Cerebral player. Reads defenses well and rarely throws into coverage. Goes through his progressions quickly and takes what the defense gives him. Recognizes the blitz very well for a player of his experience and often targets the weak link on defense when blitzed. Good setup and a smooth over-the-top delivery. Legitimate NFL arm strength. Capable of making every NFL throw, including the deep ball. Rather than relying on pure arm strength as some of the other highly touted passers of the 2009 class do, however, Sanchez combines good velocity with rare anticipation, especially for a player of his limited experience. Consistently releases his passes before his receivers have made a break, giving the defense little time to react. Distributes the ball all over the field. Good short, medium, and long-range accuracy. Consistently places his passes where only his receiver can get it and throws a very catchable ball. When healthy, showed very surprising mobility for his size. Can evade the pass rush and will scramble if the defense gives free yards. Rare accuracy on the rollout. Squares his shoulders and can fire the ball with consistency and accuracy. Team captain. Blue-collar work ethic. Father, Nick Sanchez, is a fire captain in Orange Country, Calif.

Sanchez had a "real team" around him for the first 3 years of his career. He just isn't a good NFL quarterback.

And that ladies and gentlemen, is the crux of the issue.

You can dress it up any way you want, but the simple fact is, right now, Sanchez sucks. And whilst I think he does have some redeeming features, the evidence shows he will pretty much always suck.

As bad as Mark Sanchez is, I think Ryan Leaf, Rick Mirer, Daivd Carr, Tim Couch, JaMarcus Russell, Akili Smith, Joey Harrington, and Art Schlichter would disagree with you that he is the worst top 5 draft pick ever.

It's called ThePhins.com or something. Just google Dolphins forum, it should come up first.

As for having sympathy for the Jets. Resist the temptation.
If the roles were reversed they would gleefully pick at our carcass. Remember 2010, remember Rex Ryan trying to make himself a great coach by constantly saying "coach vrs coach" when he played Belichick, remember how often they refer to us as cheaters.

No mercy for the Jets.

OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!

The fact that both the Pats and the Rats have pathetic performance in their history is where the comparisons should start and end between the two teams. While the Pats were pathetic for large portions of their existence, they did nothing treacherous to other teams along the way; they were merely a guaranteed win for other teams, and constant frustration for the fans.

The Pats were a team with only one previous SB appearance in their history, and no championships ever, when the Rats decided that filling the HC position of their franchise right there and then, took precedence over allowing the Pats the opportunity to strive, unencumbered, for their first SB NFL championship ever.

So many things have to go right to even get to the SB, and the fans and team invest so much along the way, that it is just so unfathomable to me how self centered and dismissive of another franchise a team must be to tamper with that team's HC BEFORE the SB is played, that words fail me in describing just how utterly contemptible I consider them to be.

If that wasn't enough, they devise a "poison pill" contract offer to Curtis Martin, that prevented the Pats from even making an honest attempt to try and keep him. Then he makes the HOF and Rats fans act like their theft gives them something to be proud about.

BB was the Rats' DC since he followed the stolen Bill Parcells to the Rats, and then they act like they are within their rights to keep BB from trying to move to the Pats as their HC when everyone knew that that's what he wanted to do. After all, the Rats stole him fair and square, what right do the Pats have to him?

Finally, they instigate Spygate as a way to try and diminish the Pats' accomplishments and get their former intern, Omissioner Badell, to take a pound of flesh out of the Pats in the form of a 1st round draft pick for a minor offense.

Spygate served two purposes for the Rats:

1) It helped keep a significant talent away from the Pats which makes the Rats relatively more competitive, and

2) It gives the Rats' ego a life preserver so that they can pretend that the Pats haven't been as overwhelmingly superior as they have been, and they can tell themselves that it's only because the Pats cheated; regardless of the overwhelming evidence to the contrary that the Pats are just a significantly superior franchise to the Rats.

Make no mistake, the fact that the Rats are the team who turned the Pats in for Spygate is no coincidence whatsoever.

So in conclusion, as a longtime Pats fan, I "hate" the Bills and Dolphins with the normal "hate" reserved for any divisional opponent because of what they ARE, but there is respect there too.

For the Rats, I loathe that franchise and it's fans with the fire of 1000 suns, for something they DID; I have NO respect for that franchise, and they do not merit any.

I will NEVER EVER feel bad or sorry, for the Rats and their fans. I will root for whatever outcome makes them the most unhappy.

Currently, except when they face the Pats, I am rooting the the Rats to win and finish with a mediocre 7-9 or 8-8 record. They are no danger to any playoff team, and right now, it looks to me like the majority of their fans, as judged by their message board rat droppings, are rooting for them to get the top pick in the draft so that they can draft a difference maker.

I want to see them denied and miserable.

**** the Rats!

This is really the only stat that needs to be looked at about Sanchez.
He has a 48.4% completion percentage.
In the last 10 years in the NFL only one QB has started more than half his teams games and had a completion % lower than 48.4%. Tim Tebow 2011.
Only 7 backups who started less than half their games but still threw at least 100 passes were lower than 48.4%. 2 of the 7 were Mike McMahon. 4 others were rookies.
If there were any doubt Sanchez sucks, there shouldn't be any more.

I think this is a mistake. Even if the Green Beans actually DID draft a difference maker, chances are good that the current regime would one way or another ruin or waste him. But the better bet is that they would make the wrong choice to begin with (a la, Li'l Marky). No, I want them suffering to the utmost -- 5-11 or 6-10 would be great. I hold firm to the belief that as long as Woody Johnson owns that team it will remain a rudderless ship, regardless of whoever the GM and head coach happen to be. The day he sells is the day we need to start being concerned about them becoming a threat in the division.

Jetdell fines BB for ATTEMPTING to grab a ref by the arm and ask him about a game winning kick that proved to NOT be....FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE

Jetdell fines this total POS Slauson 10K for deliberately maiming a star LB on an AFC team not named the Jets...while fining patriot Players and all other teams' players TWENTY ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS for "infractions" like "hitting too hard".

The bozo in hidden green underwear must be removed from the NFL by the owners...he has become a total embarrassment coming out of the player union settlement where he was shoved to the side as Kraft and other owners ended the job action.

He HAS to go....period...he's making a mockery of fair play in this league. The Saints players are asking that Jetdell recuse himself from any decision on Bounty Gate, something I personally pounded and pounded on during Spygate. He's a fat rat, punk straw man for big NYC money interests...nothing more.

With Bountygate appeals, players ask Goodell to recuse himself | The Jackson Sun | jacksonsun.com

Goodell does ZERO for the fans, despite his open lies to the contrary...all he does is make sure that THIS continues to cascade like a waterfall into the pockets of NFL owners...period...that is OUR money he's funneling, it's about time the owners heard our gripes and found another bag man besides this crosseyed common liar.

Sanchez is not a legitimate starting NFL quarterback, but he is nowhere as big a bust as Ryan Leaf nor Jamarcus Russell. He's not an immature a##H0le like Leaf was and he works much harder than Russell who pretty much cashed his signing bonus check, and then checked out.

David Carr never had a chance. He could have been an outstanding pro QB if he had gone late in the 1st round to a good team. he had the goods, but got pounded so incessantly during his rookie year with an expansion team, he just never had the opportunity to learn.

Sanchez reminds me of Joey Harrington. A good player but not top pick material. Harrington was a career 56% completion percentage guy with a career 69 passer rating.

I want them to get a high pick, then they can draft the next Gholston/Coples/Sanchez bust.

Kinda feel bad for the jest. Coming off a soft win agains the Dolts and now facing an angered Pats team at home.

Good thing Halloween is coming up.

Going to be a massacre.

Because when we were 31st in pass defense last year it wasn't obvious?

Well all I can say is

the

JETS

SUCK

J E T S SUCK SUCK SUCK....

that is all....

If our defense cannot contain the Jets, then we know the sky is falling. They will not run all over us like they did Indy.

This thread needs to get pinned for Jets week.

If the 3-3 2012 NYJ suck, what do the 2012 3-3 New England Patriots do???? suckle? slurp? If the Patriots lose Sunday, and I don't see a lot of compelling evidence leading ANYONE to think it'll be a cakewalk Sunday, then this season's going straight down the toilet. Heck, the NYJ are going to come in with "swagger" and I detest that term, whilst the Pats have their collective tails between their legs after blowing yet another double digit second half lead....

We better crush them or the sky will fall, water boil, locusts and frogs, apocalypse, dogs and cats getting along, total hysteria!!

The Pats are still great against the run and the Jets need to run the ball to be effective on offense. The Jets won the game yesterday on the ground, not the air. Sanchez had 82 yards of passing.

Right, like this thread is in danger of slipping off page 1.
