Adrian Gonzalez, Crawford, Beckett & Punto Trade Talk to Dodgers

Haven't tuned into Boston media in awhile, is it true Adrian Gonzalez has been trashed to the point where fans actually want him gone? Unbelievable if true. The only reason the Dodgers would accept horrible Beckett and Crawford contracts are because Gonzalez is that good on offense and defense. His contract is also great value compared to what Prince and Howard are making.

there's nothing unbelievable about it. hes been a major disappointment. for the huge contract he has his numbers suck. and people don't need the media to see it or to tell them about it. the media doesn't have anything to do with it. hes got 15 HRs that's it. and he cant hit in the clutch. if he was playing up to his contract he wouldnt be going anywhere. some guys just cant play in a big east coast market.

the only thing beckett is thinking about is what hes going to do on his next day off.

Any professional athlete dreams of being on the world's stage, even more when they have tasted it before. Days off are more enjoyable with additional bling.

Has the mushroom cloud over Fenway been lifted yet?

With the trade, and Youkilis move the Red Sox will only have 2 of there top 10 salaries next year. They moved 70+ Million in yearly payroll. They have alower payroll than the Cards and JUST higher than the Brewers.

the redsox off season is going to be very interesting to say the least. the possibilities are endless

BUT the FA class sucks, this will be a 3 year re-build at minimum.

What does the depth chart look like?

All indications are the Sox are not going the FA course. They will look more like the Rays then the Yankees.

thats a good thing. and they always have the option to spend and spend wisely

they may not go the fa route but it will be interesting. they put lester and ellsbury on waivers to. who knows where that goes in the off season.

I think a few years of farm building will be the best thing for the Sox. Look at the Yankees in the 90's when Steinbrenner was suspended and the Baseball operations ran the show.

With the added salary and an opening for an ace, Can we say King Felix? He would be the guy that I would target and we can send Lester and Ellsbury leaving us with King Felix, Bucholz, De La Rosa, Lackey (Unfortunately).....Maybe add some hitters and a 4th or 5th starter via FA...Resign Papi to another 1 year deal....We could put a very good team together...

I think they will spend the larger money on pitching.
The field player concept will change. I don't think we'll see the starters/subs as before. I think we will have more versatile changeable players in the future. The era of the starting 9 is gone from this team. Once Ortiz leaves he will be the link to the past.

As excited as I was when Gonzalez arrived this Chicken Sox purge needed to be done. Tip of the hat to Cherrington.

No, that's not true. While Gonzalez wouldn't have won any popularity contests, he pretty much escaped any severe criticism. He was seen as underachieving, but trust me when I say the bulk of Red Sox fans' venom was geared towards Beckett and Crawford.

Why venom toward Crawford, do you think?

He was frustrating, given his underperformance last year and injuries last year -- but I always thought he was likeable and I was rooting for him to get healthy and get it together.

I agree ... his sin was taking the money. I was excited we signed him ... even though I thought it was too much. I figured him and Jacoby 1-2 in the order with Pedroia, Gonzalez and ortiz a great 1-5.

Because his performance here was abysmal, to say the least.

I'm sure everyone was rooting for that, but in the meantime he was scorned upon quite a bit. The injury was the best thing to happen to him because it got him out of the news for most of this year.

Of course, down the line what's going to happen is all those players are going to start playing better - and I'm not just saying that because A-Gon just hit a HR in his first at bat - so people in this area will be criticizing the Red Sox for getting rid of such great players, completely forgetting the fact that, for whatever reason, they just weren't able to perform while here..

I think most fans expect Agon to play well back on the west coast and Crawford to return to form next year, wouldnt be surprised if Becket pitches well either. As long as the Sox put a good team together and wins no one will care what goes on in lala land.
