A privilege??? I have to think in NY getting the Jets beat is the equivalent of being assigned to Siberia! I guess the one positive for their beat writers is that they typically get to go on vacation sooner then their Giants counter parts.

It is a vital public service to remind folks of that team's perpetual ethical/moral vacuum, which remains indirectly related to whatever they do on the field of play. As for their being "much improved on both sides of the ball," nothing they've done this off-season points toward that.

New Jersey finishes out of the playoffs again this season. Mark it down.

Not only is this the wrong thread for such a sentiment to be expressed, but apparently you missed or ignored the good reasoning in other threads this past week that would indicate a Jets decline this year.

They did not have an "awesome" defense last year nor is there a good reason reason to predict one for this year. The "improvement" on both sides of the ball would seem to be unfounded speculation based on who has left the Jets and their rather meager additions.

I will agree that the Jets are Patriots in reverse. The Patriots made strides on both sides of the ball and the Jets have fallen off on both sides of the ball.

LOL! The Sporting News is calling Kyle Wilson a bust. Certain Jets fans would tell you he is far better than McCourty and would be the Pats' #1 CB if he was in New England. The only reason he didn't lose his nickelback position at the end of last year was that there was no one under him who could do it.

Career analysis: Wilson was drafted with the 29th pick in 2010. The Jets wanted him to become the starter opposite Darrelle Revis in time. However, Wilson has struggled greatly and looks out of place trying to cover NFL receivers. He's picked on continually by opposing quarterbacks.

What’s next: Wilson is likely to be the Jets' third cornerback again in 2012 but could be leapfrogged by one or more of the younger cornerbacks if he doesn't play well. If Wilson doesn't step up his game, there is little doubt he will not be back in 2013. A bad training camp could lead to Wilson not making the team this year.

Sparano is all excited because of Mark Sanchez' lower body strength, it was "very interactive" in the classroom this summer and Dustin Keller is a real go-to guy. Here's a taste:

"While the ball will be released from Sanchez’s right hand, the transformation in his legs has been overlooked outside the Atlantic Health Jets Training Center. “I see a tremendous increase in his lower-body strength right now. He’s gotten stronger all over the place, but his lower-body strength — which is really what good quarterbacks need to throw the ball well — I think has improved a lot and that’s really carried over on to the field,” Sparano said. “You see him throw the deep ball or you see him throw the 18-, 20-yard out routes right now with good zip on the football.” Sparano celebrated with a fist pump after Sanchez delivered a red zone rocket to TE Dustin Keller in the back of the end zone on the first day of minicamp."

His comments were totally polite and accurate for a visitor and suggested that the Jets fans temper their excitement after missing the playoffs and doing little to address their biggest issues.

All hail PatFanKen for going behind enemy lines and paying the price in the defense of reason and moderation.

Here's what I don't understand about Jet fans. They are completely locked into the total yards stat that had them rated the 5th best defense in the league last year. They completely ignore the scoring D stat that had them ranked BELOW the Pats as well as the run D that was ranked 13th. Its hard to build credibility with that stat when HALF the top 10 defenses DIDN'T even make the playoffs

But what has me REALLY confused is how they think their defense got SO much better that it will become "scary" dominant.

1. Even if Coples pans out, its unlikely he'll be an impact player in his rookie year.
2. Wilkerson had a fine rookie year, and likely will be an excellent player in a Ty Warren kind of way, but he's NOT a pass rush threat by any means.
3. Their LB group is VERY old and 3 of their starters have already started their dotage (Thomas, Scott and Pace) Again they are counting on their 3rd round rookie to make an immediate impact.
4. While the rest of league searches for safeties that can cover, the Jets went out an handed their safety position to 2 guys who were NEVER known for their coverage skills. In essence the Jets now have 3 very competent run coverage strong safeties, NONE of whom are capable of coverage down field

While I think the Jets will be better against the run with this group, I find it hard to figure out how they are going to cover the middle of the field with the group of DBs they have now. And if anything thing happens to either Cromartie or Revis, the whole thing will fall quickly apart.

Its not a bad defense, and it likely will be better than our's. However how can I be afraid of a defense that allowed the Pats to score 30+ points in BOTH games last season.
