Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Meh

Don't watch a ton of the Bears games. Is he really the missing piece of an "offensive juggernaut" ?

Well, if the story is true, those are probably Bob's words, not the Pats. A stud RB is really the only skill position missing. I think you could say he is the missing piece of an offensive juggernaut, but I doubt Belichick put it that way.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Thinking about it though. The Pats going into the draft with only two firsts, a second, and a third is not ideal when the Pats need some impact defenders. But with this offense, they could probably put up 40 points a game.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Unless we're talking about baseball or winning the lottery, I think 30% is always bad.

30% of the news he breaks is right is bad??? Ummm....people worship PFT here and he's barely around 50% correct. WORSHIP HIM.

Ill keep my 30% and learn about 3 out of every ten rumors before others.

He nailed Manning to Broncos 2 weeks before if happened. Just saying.

I think the stats alone are dispositive as to Forte's value.

Re: RUMOR: Twitter burning up with Matt Forte to Patriots talk..

Incarcerated Bob is a total fraud. All he does is take existing sports stories and throws possible outcomes against the wall hoping one sticks. Forte is unhappy in Chicago and may want out? The Pats are active in FA and just lost their #1 RB? Why not!

Well yeah, obviously.

I just meant to say is he really that good that it would be worth getting excited?

I just don't want to be disappointed lol

They'll probably trade down their first rounders for later picks assuming the rumor pans out (which with Bob's track record, will likely not).

In any event, they might be hedging their bets on this offense and have the defense, as has been the case for the past several years, ride on its coattails. Hasn't exactly worked out in the postseason, but what do I know...

How much difference does a top running back make to a passing team? Could Forte be as important to us as Dillon was? I think that this trade is unlikely to happen. But, make no mistake, this addition would help the team a lot.

Obviously, we could add a 2013 pick. I would think Forte's new contract with us would be the biggest outstanding issue, if Chicago really wants to move Forte.

With regard to having enough ammunition for this year, I have a couple of comments.
1) Perhaps Belichick doesn't like this draft at all.

2) We still have the rest of free agency. We've signed 5 reasonable additions to the defense in the first 2 weeks. We might sign a similar number in the next 3 months. (Fanene, Scott, Gregory, Cole and Allen).

3) With regard to draft ammunition, I think that we underestimate the value of our own 1st at 31. The draft value of #40 is about equal to our normal 3rd, 4th, 5th ,6th and 7th put together. The draft value of #31 is even more. The bottom line is even if we need to give up our top 2nd, 3th and 4th, our #25, #31 and #63 would be worth more than the normal 7 picks for us. I am not suggesting that we give that much.

Considering he produced behind the Bears' o-line, I think he may be worth it. The Bears consistently have the worst o-line in football. He might be a 1,400 yard RB behind a good line. Or he could just be average.

I agree with whoever said this seemed unlikely because they let BJGE go.

While he was obviously not a top tier RB, he was capable, and never put the ball on the ground.

That, and the contract he signed was miniscule. Forte is going to want good RB money

If our passing offense lives up to the hype we're making for it, or at least remotely close, Forte wouldn't need an offensive line to run behind. He's also a compliment to the passing game as well, he can stay in on all downs and not tip our hand, he's one of the best receiving RB's.

I would love for this to happen, probably more than I'd want Mike Wallace, but the source isn't the best. I want to hear someone else talk about it before I get my hopes up too much.

It DOES make sense on nearly every level though:

He's supposedly unhappy with his backup getting a commitment of sorts.
He's been franchised instead of locked up.
His style compliments everything we do.
We have the draft picks and the salary room to lock him up.

I think Forte could be had for 5-6m. He's a Rb coming off of a season ending Knee injury. Position he plays and the injury alone are very unfriendly conditions for a high priced contract.

Forte is probably better than sproles, so you figure that out. It would defiantly solve your screen problem, or a dump off to Brady in a blitz.

Incarcerated Bob is less reliable than @IMake****Up, but if we were to get Forte and be left with "only" 1,1,2,3, that's more than enough picks to take care of a lot of defensive issues. How many teams use those picks on one side of the ball without thinking they absolutely loaded up ?

Forte has fumbled once in the last two years running the ball (he has done more as a receiver which we don't know how Benny would do in that department because he wasn't a receiving RB) and he is a far better RB than BJGE. Much better playmaker. Also, he can be a difference in the receiving department that BJGE never was. In the 12 games he played last year (sprained his MCL and missed the last four games), he had 52 catches for 490 yards and 1 TD.

In 12 games last year, Forte had 1487 all purpose yards. Benny had 820 last year in 16 games.

I hate you Rob

If this doesn't pan out, I'm holding you responsible for my disappointment.

All behind a rather crappy O-Line.

Sorry. I am getting myself all worked up for a rumor that I pretty much know isn't true, but I am enjoying my half hour of euphoria before I go to bed and wake up tomorrow to find out Bob said the deal didn't go through. So we can be bummed together.
