Mark Anderson Signs with the Bills for 4 Years, $27.5 million; $8 million guaranteed

We've had problems with strong pass rush teams, Giants, Ravens. Pats might need to assign guard help to the outside leaving the dreaded interior rush blitz open.

I felt like the Patriots OL did a good job against both the Ravens and Giants in the play-off's this year. They struggled in those games but I never felt like the OL was the problem. The additions of Solder and Waters last year with Gallery this offseason really improved the line imo.

Hopefully this is where having a second "real" TE will help, as well as the potential for better WR play outside the numbers. Both things should give the offense more options to unload the ball before a rush can get there.

Anderson and Williams had almost nothing to do with that top 3 defense.

And they also had nothing to do with that 30th ranked defense either. It wasn't the front 7's issue.

4 years $27.5m with $8m guaranteed for Anderson.
WOW - I just got to where they published some numbers. God, If I knew it was going to take THAT much to sign him, I would said GFY along time ago and moved on. I feel MUCH better about this now.

BTW- Good for him. Like someone said earlier, it shows what a benefit coming to the Pats can be financially if you play well. Its a nice lesson for the 2,000 guys we signed this week.

Yup. i spend a lot of time on the bills board. they think these moves will take the division

You're right Tip. If it wasn't for the fact the "Tebow to the Pats rumor" thread finally ending and the complete circus the Jets just became, my head would have exploded.
At least you have not lost your sense of humor!

I don't know what the money is, if its $4MM+/yr, then it will help me to understand, if its less, then I won't. At any rate all I can do now is hope they resign Carter and Scott turns into this year's version of Mark Anderson. Or maybe there could be a Cunningham sighting.
It is a proverbial financial bonanza for Mark Anderson.

As for the New England Patriots 3-4 outside linebacker outlook, aside from incumbent starter Rob Ninkovich, the following players are currently under contract:

Trevor Scott
Jermaine Cunningham
Markelle Carter

It's down to Andre Carter and 2012 NFL Draft Pick(s) to further shore up the position.

Looking at their schedule I wouldn't be shocked if they get to 9+ wins next year assuming Fitzpatrick plays decently. Although they have a few tough road games in Houston, Seattle, San Fran, and of course Gillette.

Its obvious the Bills organization feels that their front 7 needed a total reconstruction and they are doing a fine job with it.

The Bills will have a very good defense and are definately the main team to be concerned about in the division.

Your neglecting our inside pass rushers. Otherwise, I agree.

I don't know where we're going on the front seven but I'm not worried about losing Anderson on a contract that size. We over paid Tully BCaine as well based on a quality year in a contract season. I think we'll adjust by signing a FA (like Carter) and a draft pick ( did I just say we'll draft a pass rusher? LOL NVM). IBBIT.

We'll need additional LBers if we go mostly 3-4 and, so far, we haven't done that. So, I think the defense stays the same, just upgrades in personnel (some off the IR).

The Patriots put together a clear off-season plan, and Mark Anderson was not a priority.

Too bad. He was more effective than most of us thought. Yes, the offense has been bolstered, but the pass rush is weaker today than it was at the end of the season. Anderson is gone and Carter is unsigned and injured. Hopefully the Patriots can add two strong pass rushers in the draft.

The focus of the previous conversation was the 3-4 outside linebacker position.

I suspect Bill Belichick will revert back to the 3-4 defense this year.

New England Patriots fans will have to wait and see. Bill Belichick could surprise and select a 3-4 outside linebacker in the first two rounds of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Yikes, Buffalo can have him for that price. That's pretty much the definition of buying high.

Did I just read 27.5 million over 4?

The bills overpaid.

thats market value for a 10+ sack DE still in he's 20's 7 million

Very much so.. and this is on the basis of one season during which Anderson played part time. Really surprising. I would be furthermore surprised if Anderson plays out the rest of his contract there.
