and Moss looked terrific in 2010 training camp. How'd 2010 work out for Randy? He's 2 years older now for the numerics challenged.

You beat me to the punch. I concur though. Moss looking amazing in shorts with no one covering him doesn't impress me. Been there, done that.

Moss has been in decline for some time, as his top end speed has gone from almost otherworldly to just plain fast. However, Moss 2010 was still drawing extra coverage while he was in New England and in Minnesota. Claims of some cataclysmic demise on his part overstate what was going on physically.

I had no question in 2010 or now that Moss could play at a semi high level in the league. Not in yards or grabs but in double digit TD's.

One play doesn't define a season but once I saw him whore Revis with that one handed grab that told me all i needed to know. He mentally melted down more then being done.

Having said all of that. I'm not a fan of saying a guy can play because of a workout against air. These workout things & the hysteria either way good or bad is ridiculous. Really it's hard for a wideout of any NFL caliber to look bad against air.

You mean the play where Revis tweaked his hamstring and ended up missing the rest of that game and two or three more after that? People overrate that play because he "whored" a gimpy Revis.

moss also burned revis b4 that play but he dropped the pass.. moss was banged up the season b4 that agaisnt revis but no1 gives moss an excuse for that

Revis got whored plain & simple.
Yeah right. He tweeked it way after he was beat. Go look at a replay. Not only that play but the last TD against Buffalo where he split the defense in a Cover 2.

Plus the decent game he had against the Jets beating Cromartie for the 40 yard TD with the Vikings.

Yup. Your talking about the first quarter where he got behind the Revis & Smith the safety. Bobbled it trying to keep his feet down.

Agreed 100%. He was fine with the Pats & Vikings. I don't care what the numbers say. He passed the eye test. Now with the Titans he didn't.

Was that because he mentally checked out or was he at the end. I like you think it was just mental.

However that has to be proven & a workout against air aint going to do it for me despite being a huge fan.

Or how he and Brady single handily lost the Jets game because Cromartie made him look pathetic on virtually every play in the second half?

Smoking the Bills defense that season wasn't much of a feat. And Moss only had two catches in that game (granted both TDs).

As to when Revis tweaked his hamstring, it is unclear in the video. You could argue he tweaked it at the line of scrimage because he seemed to make a weird jerky cut off the line. Or he could have done it extending for the ball. It is hard to tell. Besides, I think he tweaked it prior to the game and then reinjured in that play.

Here is the video of the play:

Here is an article from three days before the game on how Revis tweaked his hamstring in practice:

Well, not only that, but it's also been another year since then, and the decline has likely continued. I'm just referring to the 2010 season. I don't think it's valid for the anti-Moss crowd to consider it somehow illustrative of Moss' ability to actually play the game.

The problem is in 2010, Moss couldn't have had a better training camp. Everyone was amazed how great Randy looked in shorts. He was running great routes and catching everything passed in his direction.

Then something happened, he looked like crap in pads and defenders playing him physically.

The thing about Moss is that no one will know what kind of player he really is at least until the preseason when he is in pads and facing defenders who will bump him on the line and fight him for the ball. He could rebound or he could be done.

Agree. As I said working out against air aint saying much. However he didn't look like crap with the Pats & Vikings. He looked fine physically for the most part. With the Titans he looked like crap. Was a mental thing or physical.

He didn't look fine physically going up against Cromartie in week 2. Cromartie totally outphysicaled him for the ball several times.

In fact, his decline started in 2009.

Agreed. Best case scenario is a team that has a difference maker to take the pressure off him. Where he gets the man coverage. The days of him doing that are over. He needs a pitch count ala snaps also.

If he is close to the early 2010 Moss then I think he would be a double digit TD guy. I know that is a big if.

How did Cromartie look against him a couple weeks later. 5 for 86 & 37 yard TD against him. In fact he was open another big gain but Farve underthrew in the 2nd quarter.

Randy Moss true decline started in 05'. 98-03' was the best wideout to ever walk the planet physically. It aint about what he was. It is about what he can give you now. As it was in 07' after a horrible 06' in Oakland.

I know the age is different but the point is the same. The Vike Jet game he was targeted 9 times. So he beat Cromartie decisively 6 out of 9 times. 5 catches & one should have been completion in a tight game that came down to the wire.

Veteran wide receiver Randy Moss worked out for the New Orleans Saints on Tuesday -- his first since saying he was done being retired -- and an initial report suggest it went very

Fox Sports insider and NFL Network contributor Jay Glazer took to Twitter to report that Moss lit it up during his workout in which he ran about 45 pass routes and "looked like the old Randy," according to multiple sources.

The performance, as reported, seems to support earlier claims by Moss that he was in great shape and had recently run a 4.3-second 40-yard dash after sitting out the 2011 season.

NFL Network insider Jason La Canfora reported multiple teams are interested in Moss. In addition to the workout with the Saints he has at least one team visit set up for next week.

After a forgettable display with the New England Patriots, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans in 2010, Tuesday's workout could be the first sign an early market will form for Moss..

Comments?
Also does this deserve to be its own thread or no?

Although even the greats such as I decline physically with age, Randy's problem always was how he handled adversity mentally. I believe that even his buddy TFB timed out on the personal energy needed to assuage Randy's psyche. Once Brady could no longer devote the serious time and effort needed for Randy maintenance, BB knew it was time to move on. This is why NFW the Patriots will try another go with Randy no matter how good he looks in a tryout.

looks like he will prolly sign with the saints.. i couldnt be happier for him, this is prolly the best fit for HIM over any other team..

"SportsNOLA.com reports there is a "strong chance" of free agent Randy Moss signing with the Saints after Tuesday's impressive workout.
In "great shape," Moss reportedly touched base with Saints GM Mickey Loomis and coach Sean Payton after the "off-the-charts" workout. "Both sides were encouraging to one another," according to sportsNOLA.com, after Moss clearly exceeded expectations. With Marques Colston and Robert Meachem threatening to leave free agency, the Saints appear to be in the driver's seat for Moss. Mar 6 - 4:57 PM"

moss ran a 4.39..but but but, i thought he couldnt run any more:rocker::eek:
