Smerlas is probably in a pretty tough spot. I don't know where they are going with this restaurant anyway. They got some good reviews when it first opened but it has been steadily downhill since then. Late in 2011 the reviews were mostly all bad and they remain that way. I don't know how a restaurant at the upper end of the price scale that does not have much else going for it survives that for long.
Smerlas has not really come out and said anything I think and he really does not have a platform for that.
Ordway for his part has tried to be cagy about his support for DeOssie but he has supported him. If you notice he has also tried to indirectly deflect some of the criticism of DeOssie by making a big deal out of the Jason Whitlock tweet regarding Jeremy Lin. However the way Ordway framed his comments really gave me the feeling that he was being disingenuous in the way he criticized Whitlock and the timing suggests to me that he is trying to deflect criticism from DeOssie. I think the amount of time Ordway has spent with the Soccer player racial issues has been yet another effort to deflect criticism from DeOssie as much as anything.
If I am not mistaken DeOssie has not made any appearances of late and while the football season is over I would have expected one or two more appearances from him, post SB. I don't think New Englanders are going to forget what happened here and efforts by the media to try to frame this issue the way they want to frame it has only served to point out how disrespectful and condescending they are.
I hope DeOssie and Buckley are not let off the hook in this and even Ordway deserves criticism in my view. Smerlas may be left with either distancing himself from DeOssie or suffering the consequences. I am willing to wait and see on Smerles but I am done with DeOssie and Buckley and close to done with Ordway.
