How do you see this defense: Good, Mediocre, Sucks

So this doesn't become embroiled in a historical or semantic debate this is in the context of the current NFL, not in relation to the 86' Bears.

They are mediocre. Obviously they are not good or great, and I don't see how you can say they suck because they do make adjustments and generally hold our opponents to low to mid 20's in points, which allows our better than average O to win the game. They also are good at getting turnovers. If they could keep that and develop a ferocious pass rush, that would be something.

Based on other defenses THIS YEAR, this defense is somewhere in the middle of the pack although probably on the low end. I hear people say this is one of the worst defenses ever and that is laughable since there are many worse defenses this year.

The problem with defense is consistency, not quality. This defense can be as good as any defense in the league at times and worse than any other defense at others. Their biggest problem is that they cannot put together a complete game this year. Granted neither can the offense, but the offense when on is one of the best defenses in the league on a consistent basis.

People want to look at the yardage stats as a be all and end all to prove this defense sucks, but you can say the same thing about the Saints and Packers. The Pats are middle of the pack in a lot of key stats most importantly in points allowed. That is why I think the defense is middle of the pack.

LOL, here it comes.

They are good at getting takeaways.
They are good at being opportunistic and working with momentum.

They are inconsistent at shedding blocks and stopping the run at the point of attack.

Pass coverage is sketchy.

Not happy to say it, but I think this defense sucks. The good thing is the offense is great. I believe this team will win on Sunday and feel they should go to the Superbowl, but if they play GB or NO then it will be 100% on Brady to win because this defense won't hold them to 20-something points.

The defense is mediocre but would suck under a worse coaching staff...

Tom Brady and his receivers/TEs are like a HUGE bandaid covering up a wound.

As long as that bandaid does not peel off,we hopefully won't see an exposed defense in the playoffs.

Put this defense on a team with a mediocre QB and average HC and you can see it for what it is.

I'll give my vote when the season is over. I'm in a far too neutral state of mind right now.

Though I have faith that they will do a better job than the #1 ranked D did last week.

This is a horrible defense. Bill gambled on the haynesworth experiment and it failed badly.

Haynesworth was a bad move, but I think the failure to keep Sanders around definately hurt the secondary.

Sanders was by far not a perfect Safety and pretty much mediocre, but the intangibles he brought in terms of knowledge of the system and helping the younger players out in getting ready to play the pro game in a Patriots complicated defense, are priceless values that hurt when they are gone.

I think bill could have easily filled the void sanders left by drafting a safety instead of malliot, a guy who will most likely never start here.

i would rather rate the Picture of Tom B holding the SB trophy

Until I see something change in the playoffs, they suck. They just fielded the second worst pass defense in NFL history. That's not good or mediocre. That's sucktitude.

I'd kill for a mediocre defense.

You're kidding yourself if you think the defense is anything but awful

The Pats' defense is pretty much average. Although it's typically derogatory and meant to mean below average, mediocre does basically mean average.

For better or worse, the only rating that matters about this defense is what it does in the next 3 games.
Whatever you want to call it, it got us to a #1 seed, so whether they were good, bad or ugly along the way, its 2011 season is 100% the next 3 games.

I say mediocre. There are times in certain games where our offense didn't give our defense much of a chance and there are times where our Defense looked like they were going to blow a lead. I can't say we lost any games strictly because of our defense, though. But we certainly didn't win very many because of them.

One game where our offense really made it impossible for our defense to help us win is the first Bills game. Too many turnovers so close together.

One game where our defense cost us the game is against the Giants.

The draft happened before free agency last year.

Even with the benefit of hindsight, which safety would you have taken?
