Playoff seedings

1 seed would be nice. If that's the case then we just played our last away game of the year.

2 could mean avoiding Balt and Pitt until the AFCC if things shake out the way I feel they will (HOU beats 6 seed, Balt/Pitt beats AFCW winner in round 1).

Regardless getting the bye would make me happy. I think we need that week off in case Chung/Spikes still need the rest.

I think we have a better shot of beating the Steelers than beating the Ravens.

That this Pittsburgh Steeler Team they would rip our High School Secondary the shreds...go 49ers.

If Chung, Spikes, Vollmer and Deion Branch could get back by mid-January, these Patriots could be formidable.

Vollmer has no business replacing Solder at RT. Solder had another tremendous day on that right side, all but eliminating Von Miller. Vollmer has stuggled this season and I don't want to see him anywhere near the right side of that line, he's had some tough games when he was in there.

I have said that before Nate Soldier along with Mankins and Light are among BB better picks among Offensive Linemen. Nate Soldier makes Seabass Vollmer look like garbage.

With the Patriots having clinched the AFC East and therefore a playoff berth, it is hopefully not too early to start thinking about playoff seeding, and I have a question. Suppose the Patriots and Steelers both win out and finish 13-3 atop there respective divisions (which presupposes a Ravens loss), I think the Steelers would have the higher seed by virtue of their head to head record against us.

But if the Ravens, Patriots and Steelers all win out, then the Ravens win the AFC north and the Steelers are a wild card - who gets the #1 overall seed then? If it's the Patriots then don't we want to root for the Ravens?

The situation has obviously changed with Baltimore losing to San Diego, but here is what would have happened had they won, and all three teams won their remaining games.

The first thing that happens in the tiebreaking process is that team(s) within a division are eliminated. In this scenario the Ravens and Steelers are both from the AFCN, so one of them gets removed; in this case Pittsburgh is eliminated due to their being swept by Baltimore.

Next the tiebreaking process starts all over again with the remaining teams - the Ravens and Pats. They haven't played each other, so you can't use head-to-head results. Next would be conference record; they would have both been the same (10-2) had they beaten the Chargers. After that it is strength of victory, which is the combined won-loss record of all the teams you have defeated. Right now Baltimore is ahead of the Pats but that could change dramatically between now and the end of the season.

Back to the current situation: if the Steelers and Pats win out, Pittsburgh gets the number one seed due to the first tiebreaker, head to head results; the Pats would be number two.

What happens if the Pats lose one of their two remaining games, Pittsburgh loses to the 49ers, and Houston and Baltimore win out - so all finish 12-4? Once again the first thing is that Baltimore eliminates Pittsburgh, making the Steelers the #5 seed. Now does Houston become the #1 seed based on their 10-2 conference record ... or would they be eliminated due to their loss to the Ravens??? If the Texans did become the #1 seed then it would go down to strength of victory between the Pats and Ravens for the #2 or #3 seed. If not then that same SoV tiebreaker would be used between the Pats and Ravens for the #1 or #2 seed, and Houston would be #3.

Anybody know for sure what would happen in that situation?

Remember that the Pats look like they will have a bye which means it is almost a full month before the Patriots host their first playoff game. Vollmer is formidable when healthy. I agree with you that if his back and foot are not improved, the Patriots are better off with Solder in there.

They are even better rotating top-flight linemen throughout the game. When they wheeled Waters off yesterday, my heart sank. Fortunately he came back in. Depth in front of Tom Brady is a good thing and Vollmer has continued to try and get back - time is now on our side.

Vollmer is good big tough lineman. A back injury and foot injury diminished his effectiveness.

I'm sick of the Vollmer hate.

Anyone remember his rookie season where Light got hurt, the Pats took on the Colts, Vollmer played LT (against Freeney!!) and Sebass totally dominated Freeney?

Yeah. Even Collinsworth kept showing replays on his prompter. It was the best you'll ever see against Freeny -- along with Orlando Pace.

That's high company. That's not a fluke either. When this guy gets healthy, switch him to LT, and you'll see good things.

I got news for ya'...if you tried to even talk seedings on this board last month you would have been buried in an avalanche of "bad this...bad that...worst team in history....(insert any NFL team) is going to kill us this week..BB must go, he's lost touch...BB doesn't have it,BB should be fired for fielding this team...blah blah crying whining blah blah blah.."...myself, I take whatever I get in life and make the best of it...6th seed, 1st seed, bird seed...I don't give a crap...all I know is our team is IN, our coach has proven he can win and I like our chances to do some damage...who knows what's in store?...I'll tell you this, there isn't ONE so called "expert" on this board who knows either.

Last month?

Posters in yesterday's Tebow game thread were writing angry open letters to Kraft demanding BB's demotion. Then the 2nd QTR happened.

Solder almost all but eliminated Tom Brady on a major league wiff.
That would have meant he eliminated two All-Pros in one game.
