Re: Taylor Price Waived

Now can we all agree that BB is THE worst in the NFL when it comes to drafting wide receivers?

Bethel Johnson
Chad Jackson
Brandon Tate
Taylor Price

This is just ridiculous.

Considering 2nd round WRs have under a 50% hit rate and 3rd round receivers are under to 30%, it's not nearly as bad as you want to think.

It is if you expect the Patriots to be better than everyone else.

Can't be better than everyone at everything, no matter how bad you want it. Sorry.

ok......makes trading down sound utterly stupid

Patriots WR drafted post 2002:

2003 - Bethel Johnson
2004 - P.K. Sam
2005 - None
2006 - Chad Jackson
2007 - None
2008 - None (Matthew Slater)
2009 - Brandon Tate
2010 - Taylor Price
2011 - None

Re: Taylor Price Waived

Good riddance.

I knew this kid was bound for Waivers by Week 5. If he couldn't earn a lick of playing time after a year in the system and the awful performances put forth by Chad Ochocinco, he was never going get any playing time.

Re: Taylor Price Waived

Not really. Because the first round isn't much better, even in the top 10.

Why shouldn't fans expect the Patriots to be the best at everything? Because we'll be let down? Doesn't bother me.

Re: Taylor Price Waived

Who has Belichick taken in the 2nd/3rd that he's given up on too early? I can't think of any that have done anything worth mentioning other than Butler, and I think he's just their nickel corner. If he were showing too little patience, then we'd see these guys develop elsewhere, but they're not.

And what does that say for BB's draft evaluation in rounds 2 and 3? Something you've been defending to the hilt for the longest time now. You can give up now.

You show me 10 teams with better drafting over the last 5 years and I will. I've seen plenty of people spewing those lies that Belichick sucks at drafting, yet nobody understands that hitting on even half of your picks is great.

Re: Taylor Price Waived

I don't think that Bethel Johnson was a failed pick, but you analysis speaks for itself. Belichick has done an aweful job of drafting wide receivers.

However, Belichick has certainly been able to use draft choices to secure wide receivers: Moss, Welker and Branch. Also, Hernandez is considered by some to be a wide receiver.

Look, the Trade Down strategy has produced "GARBABE", I don't think there's a team in the history of football that has cut more 2nd and 3rd round draft picks over the last 3 years than this team.

He better keep these 2 - 1st round picks this April and actually draft 1st round talent instead of the trash he's getting from the deal downs.

Overall the Patriots are one of the best teams in the league at drafting. But at drafting WR, they are terrible. You can't dispute that.

By the way, over the last decade, the league-wide hit rate on 3rd round WRs is around 30%.

Yeah, and the Patriots are 1 for 6 since 2000 at drafting wide receivers.
That's 16.7%. Below your league-wide percentage.

Belichick is a genius at accumulating picks and getting the most value for draft picks, but he has a below average success rate on drafting WR.

WRs?? What about CBs??

Re: Taylor Price Waived

Who really cares that Taylor Price was cut? It has zero effect on our team.

He obviously wasn't going to play this year anyway, unless you're that guy who kept insisting that it was "due to his hamstring..." (despite all reports every week that he was on the field for warmups and was quoted as saying "My legs feel great.")

If you're in the club that b!tches about failed picks etc, keep in mind that we do accumulate more picks that any other team, and that's probably because Belichick is smart enough to realize that it's a total crapshoot.

Bethel Johnson has to be a fail.

2nd round draft picks should not be used exclusively as a KR. He never had any success here as a WR.

Is it that trading down is a bad idea or has been simply failed to pull the trigger on the right guys when he has traded down?

He will likely say that it's both, which is totally fine with me. I have no problem with those who question the moves. I question many myself.

I will say that it does make sense to accumulate more actual and physical picks than anyone else, due to the fact that we already know that many won't work out.

It's not exactly the easiest team to contribute to, coming in as a draft pick in your first yr or two.
