I'll take 3 of the 4. Not sure who Barron is. Sadly Minifield is a 1-2 rounder.
McNutt -Love him. He was a QB that came to Iowa and the coaches decided to move him to WR b/c the QB spot was stacked.

Mark Barron from Alabama.

Minnifield might be there with the first pick and there is a chance that Curry would be there with the other. Ofcourse a lot could change between now and April.

Have not seen much of Curry. I do like Cam Johnson from Virginia though.
Ideal size for 34ROLB. Great in run D, 2 gapping and was good at pass rushing bu this year, he is playing with an injury so that's slowing him down.
Plus he played 34OLB for 2 years.

I'd be more than fine with him too. But let's get real, Belichick isn't taking either one. We're chasing the end of the rainbow on this board trying to figure out how this guys selects players.

If he is there in the 2nd round, He will.

After today's game if we don't do well in this draft he was wasting Brady's last few years.

We have to get a pss rusher and ANYONE who can pass cover in the 1st round. Dump Ocho and get a solid WR who can go deep.

As usual, BB will trade back and we may get that 3rd TE we need so I don't expect more.

IMO which means nothing.....I believe all this talk abuot how great a coach he is in the media has went to his head.

your confusing Bb the coach with Bb the GM/ Personnel guy. Bb the coach is one of the GOAT. BB the personnel guy does have his flaws

i think one thing is evident from the 1st 8 games of this season. We need an infusion of new talent on our defense. The players that are there at the moment just don't consistently cut it in the NFL. S, OLB especially are poor (Sounds like a broken record i know but it's the way it is). Hopefully the good people on pats fans draft portion can help weed out the best prospects.

BB the coach is one of the top 5 all time. BB the personnel guy is one of the top 5 currently. Hard to hate on him too much.

BB the personnel guy is killing BB the coach by passing on pass rushers and loading up on DB's.

Bottom line: We have the worst defense in the NFL and that is unacceptable.

I guess this is how the Miami fans of the 80's felt when they had Dan spinning it and a swiss cheese defense year after year.

Somebody in the organization needs to stand up to BB and explain to him that pass rushers do not grow on trees, they are selected via the draft.

Why aren't the Mediots at ESPNBoston, the Globe and the Herald calling BB out over his lack of attention via the draft to the OLB/DE position?

lol the pats are the cheapest team in the league.

All the other teams shop at best buy and wallmart, while the pats shop at ebay for best deal.

Because then, unlike you, are willing to admit that Belichick has forgotten more about football in the last hour than any of them will ever know.

Ochmed: I don't know that you're asking the right question.

As I pointed out elsewhere, there are two questions to be asked:

(1) Why has BB passed on so many OLB/DEs over the last few years?
(2) That said, what precisely was it that caused him to draft Cunningham and especially Crable?

That’s an appeal to authority, you’re trying to justify his actions based on who he is rather than the inherent logic/or lack in his actions. That said, c’mon, it’s the media’s job to talk, regardless of whether it makes sense, you could get soooooo much material out of criticizing BB, the bigger someone is the more there is to tear down.

This is honestly a very good question, especially with Crable. Cunningham started so many games last year and was really solid as a rookie. I think his regression has hurt me the most

It's an interesting argument. It could be argued BB the coach can sometimes cover for BB the personnel guy.

I personally think BB's strategy of trading down for value is genius because he is not getting fired this year and lets him take advantage of situations where teams want a player and are willing to overpay to get them now.

My criticism is that there is an argument that as a drafter, he is basically an average outside the 1st round (not good not bad). He has had his hits Hernandez, Gronk, Vollmer, Chung, Spikes. But he (as we are reminded constantly) has had his misses too Butler, Wheatley, Cunningham (or so it seems), Brace (to an extent), Crable, Mckenzie et al.

If you take out Hernandez cause he was a late rounder, his hit ratio in the 2nd is arguably right on 50% and for the 3rd is at almost 0% pending Price and Ridley.

I think BB puts himself and his draft department in a position to succeed but i think they have been middle of the pack in using that position.

The Pats have to rebuild most of the defense starting with the draft picks. Pats are currently 5-3 and on the pace for a 10-6 season but if they end up 8-8 or in that range, things will change and possibly get them a top 20 pick. There are too many questions in the defense (Haynesworth, Brace, Ellis, Spikes...) that the smartest thing to do is rebuild the whole defense around Chung, Wolfork and Mayo.
We need several quality defensive players in next years draft and instead of fooling around with risk (Dowling...who I still think can play) or project (Brace/Haynesworth) players, get some immediate starters. I want to see a rookie starting DL, DE/OLB and safety on opening day for the Pats next year. If the Pats do it right, they can have a real young and talented defense. The Pats have FOUR picks in the first two rounds and GET some real immediate players!!!!!!!!

I agree. We need to cease stockpiling picks and pick the highest available impact players. When our need is for a pass rusher we need to pick the best pass rusher on the board or trade UP to get the best one available. Trading back was a good strategy when we had a strong lineup and had limited roster spots available for rookies. Now we don't have that luxury.

Plus, BB needs to stop playing kingmaker and hire some real coaching and front office talent. We need a real GM who has spent years evaluating talent not some guy who was receivers coach a couple of years ago. If our DC can't get it done (whoever that is) then we need to get a real seasoned DC in here. Dom Capers was here a few years ago as advisor. Why on earth would we let a guy like that go. BB can't do it all. It's proving out.

I don't care what ya call it. It's true, and I think you'll agree with me there.

Yes, that's true about BB, but why should that have ANYTHING to do with what ESPN does? Their business is talking, BB neglecting the OLB position is discussion worthy, if we sign Mario Williams in the off-season that's even more to talk about.

"Trading back was a good strategy when we had a strong lineup and had limited roster spots available for rookies. Now we don't have that luxury." Absolutely agree with those two sentences because stockpiling is a great thing to do but not if your defense is 32nd in the league.
