Official Giants @ Pats postgame thread

the reason was to keep the Giants on their heels, slow the pass rush. It worked, they moved the ball the best they had all game.

If that's true, then he should have been more concerned with leaving time on the clock because there was little to no chance that this defense was going to stop them.

No it's not. The defense was not being exposed by early like EVERY FREAKING ANALYST THOUGHT HE WOULD!!!

The 4th quarter is when the real pats defense woke up just like it always does.

The pats defense is broken and bill needs to get help.

They needed a little confidence boost. 1:36 shouldn't have been too much time, but it could have been less. That's on the offense with some poor clock management on that last series. You don't have to run the ball to take time off the clock.

I'm really talking about the 2:15 mark. Why not just let the clock run to the 2 min warning when you're already at the 40? They ran 3 plays from 2:15 - 2 min warning. That came back to kill us. We any of you confident leaving so much time on the clock with this D?

that's just 15 seconds.....You can't assume a TD, especially against a tough D with a great pass rush. Sack, fumble =game over. You have to score when you can.

On a positive note I thought Deadrick played well out there today.

Re: What happened to our offense??!!

Brady found a way to get the Patriots the lead with under 2 minutes to go. The defense found a way to give up a TD in less than 90 seconds.

Are you really surprised that some people are pointing to the defense under those circumstances?

Sounds VERY familiar

Say........ February of 2008 perhaps? :bricks::bricks::bricks:

It's not the 15 seconds that was the problem - it was the 3 plays. You keep harping on you can't assume a TD, the reality was time was not an issue so there was no cause to rush. NOT ALTER YOUR PLAY CALLING - just not rush to run plays.

I could handle it if we were discussing the fact that the D isn't very good. The sad thing is that there is a slow realisation that the team just isn't that good. Sure we can beat the Dolphins or the Raiders, and I'm sure we will beat the Chiefs, Colts, Broncos etc to double get 10 wins but I have seen nothing to suggest we can win consistently in January.

no deep threat on offense, can't beat man coverage, no commitment to running the football, can't return kicks past the 20, don't play complimentary football, don't react to the situation, the D gets worse the more important the play gets, culminating in 4th quarter touchdown drives seemingly given up at will.

needing a TD is a different animal than just needing a FG...Woodhead screwed up the clock killing by going out of bounds on a run if you remember. That was the play to kill a good 40 seconds.

Good point that was a horrible play call and a terrible mistake by Woodhead. At best Giants only get 3 points not TD if that running play winds clock. No way Coughlin calls a timeout if Woodhead stays inbounds because it was a 1st down play.

You mean the same defense that stopped them all day? BB should have anticipated that a PI in the end zone would be called on a ball that was uncatchable.

I could see them calling D holding but PI?

On the play that Chung hurt his ankle, how did he not come down with the int? I got a flashback but thought surely not this time. Not this time, this can't be happening. Anyway, I think I can get a lot of good work done this week as I will be staying out for a while.

Yeah, I mean that defense (and it wasn't uncatchable).

Did Haynesworth play in the 4th quarter?

Absolutely no return game. Other teams have one, Pats do not. Started at the 20 or less every freakin possession.

In terms of KR and PR, have we gotten anything from the special teams other than fumbling?
I guess the football gods have chosen this season as the get back to the normal distribution in terms of T.O.

Special Teams.....SUCKED. Ghost....missed a 27 yarder.....REALLY??? Edelman....WHY the
F(CK is he even out there? He hasn't broken one for any distance in a long time....and the fumble TOTALLY changed the game. I won't go as far as to say it LOST us the game....but it was a major factor.

For all the problems the team has - O been below average last two weeks; D been terrible for a good portion of the year - I think the Patriots would 6-1 or possibly 7-0 if they had any kind of return game. Any kind at all. I've been noticing it the last couple weeks, but today was absolutely awful. Edelman brought one out of the endzone - after hesitating - and got it to about the 12. And he fumbled one of the returns. If any WR is going to be cut, it shouldn't be Ocho, but Edelman.

How many times have the Patriots returned a kick off past the 40? How many times have the Patriots had a punt return of more than 20 yards? Poor returns leave longer fields for the O which means short fields for the D when the O can't move the ball.

Oucho needs to go.

Not out for a pass route. To Logan on a one way ticket far away.

Its not working and become quite a joke. He was brought here to stretch the field and the whole idea has failed from the get go. At least Moss can run the correct route and help the team.

One other thing: That Sergio Brown PI play at the end of the game was totally something Meriweather did all the time. BW would help this team out, but I had a flashback to some of his plays on that PI.

He was open several times today. Not much he can do if Brady can't get him the ball when he is open deep, or doesn't even look his way.

I wouldnt fault Brown,

None of the Pats DBs are taught to look back for the ball.

Brady chewed him out on the sideline.

The guy sucks.

Iam really surprised at some of the posters who say they are happy we lost. Even during the game thread there people calling brady's carreer over at the half and such. Really..iam as pissed as anyone but how can anyone root for a loss ??
