Faulk and Brace first two off PUP (merged)

As much as I love Woody, we are talking about different things if Faulk is ready to play. It's like compare Ninkovich with McGinest

Kyle Love has played well, but i think he was originally more of a penetrating tackle type, so maybe he can fill the Pryor role and Brace can add to our Monsters of the Midway tackle rotation. If we can properly use and rotate these guys, we're going to be crusing some Olines come 4th quarter.

Unless injury strikes the DL we might see the Walking Deaderick.
His job is at high risk because of the 2011 players we have as competition
As much as I think Brace is a much better player, I see more need for Deaderick.
We don't have a real backup at SDE for Ellis. Deaderick would step right in.
At DT we have Warren and Love as backups that Brace would be competing with.
I also see Deaderick as a more likely option in the nickel DT rotation.
I really like what I have seen from Brace on the field but his position has quite a bit of depth without him.
Do you think he could be used at SDE in the 43?

I don't agree. Woodhead runs with more power than Faulk. Ninko has no comparable advantage vs. McGinest.

Also, we don't really know whether Faulk has the great hands he used to. He was having some dropsie issues before his injury. Maybe they were a temporary aberration -- but maybe they weren't.

Only on planet Simkin... Faulk topped a thousand all purpose yards from scrimmage once in his career. Eight years ago. He's only topped 900 once since. Woodhead did that in just his first 14 game season here. Faulk has scored 31 TD's in his 12 year career. Woodhead has scored 6 in just his first 14 game season here... Faulk had 7 fumbles in his first two seasons here. Woodhead has fumbled only once to date... Faulk is now 8 years older than Woodhead. So unless you're comparing Ninkovitch to Willie in Cleveland or in his curent gig on NFLN...

Faulk has been a great contributor here. If he still has something left to contribute that's awesome because you can never have too many solid contributors providing key depth on a Brady led team. I don't get why some people don't get that. But I also don't get why other people feel the need to disparage Danny in the process of lauding Faulk because he has also proved to be a great contributor and projects to continue to be one for the forseeable future. He seemlessly replaced a key component in Tom's arsenal in season and out produced his predecessor.

No, not Brace at DE
My concern is with Deaderick's dedication to the job. Maybe he's matured. I think that the Pats team culture has jelled better this season, especially after the team building Jets win and Dallas comeback where the D was a key factor in winning.

who knows what either has over anyone else right now....

anyone expecting faulk to just step on and be what he was is being a little naive.......the first step is to see if he can survive a week of practice. at his age, you don't bounce back so easily

as for brace, we've been here before.......hope is a good thing, but I don't see how he makes the current situation any better. is he an upgrade over anyone? I'm not sure the pats even need another slow fate guy......wilfork, warren, haynesworth, love have been doing pretty well, and I don't see him getting past ony of them.

still want to see cannon.........his presence along with the return of vollmer will give the pats good depth and a solid rotation for running the ball late in the season

People tend to forget how good Woody was last year. I think he's a little banged up right now and hasn't been the same, that's probably why. Hopefully he gets healed up over the bye week and returns to that form. Not only did he seem to have Faulk-like vision, he also made the clutch 3rd down plays as I recall. Pass protection maybe not as good as Faulk but he wasn't a liability there by any means. Not saying he's better than or even as good as Faulk but yeah easily comparable at worst.

Brace would play LDE in the 3-4. IN the 4-3, he'll be in rotation at DT.
Brace coming back could mean we'll see 3-4 sets that look like this:
Anderson/Brace/Wilfork/Haynesworth/Carter
Mayo/Spikes

or Ninkovich in there for Anderson.

Faulk becomes the entire offense if you are playing Baltimore in the playoffs. In 2009, I think Faulk was the only one besides Brady and Edelman not to give up the game. (Welker gets a pass for this one)

(a) was a factor in early games

(b) was injured

(c) made not one but 2 big plays in the game winning drive Sunday

Letsgopats is a Jets fan.

Forgot that Woody was dinged up. He dealt with some injuries last year, too, IIRC.

I'm a big fan of his but his touches per game are down by 2 this year. His yards per carry are down 1.5 and his yards per reception are down 3.2.

Not crazy amounts but with Ridley coming on fairly strong, BJGE playing well again, Faulk being activated off PUP and Vereen waiting in the wings I don't think it's unreasonable to ponder if his role is getting diminished. After all, the main reason he found a niche was Faulk going on IR. We know how highly BB thinks of Kevin.

Clues to the clueless? Jets fan? You guys ****ing rock. I wish I was as good of a Pats fan as you two.

Dude, give up the Anderson pimping, he only plays in sub.

You'll get used to it. If anything other than rainbows, sunshine, and sprinkles come out of your mouth when discussing the Pats, you can expect to be labeled a Jets fan. Its their ultimate weapon like calling someone a communist during the Red Scare.

so when faulk retires next year and vereen is a bust, and woodhead is playing in buffalo what then? i dont get some people on this forum, woodhead has done everything, hey is on every special teams, he blocks for brady, he is a great change of pace back, he is a awesome check down. but all of a sudden vereen is better than him? let go of tarp hes replaceable. letting woodhead walk would be a big mistake.

Burn the witch!

Seriously though, I used to post on here a ton before the forums got updated and rebooted in 04. It's night and day how much better the discussion was prior to that. Not that the updated boards have anything to do with it, but around that time there was a huge in flux of hater troll posters from other teams, new fans that had never followed football closely prior and the typical chest thumping homers. It created an awful schism where you had to be on one side or the other and rationality suffered. Perusing the boards was hardly fun.

Just look how ******ed the conversations about our defense have been. Few see the middle of the road. It's either "this is the worst defense of all time with no chance of improving!" or "You Jets troll, this defense is perfect. We have BB running it and he's never ever ever ever ever had a subpar D!", with both sides jamming fingers in each ear and shouting jibberish while the other speaks.

There are still many great posters on here that make it worth coming back, but it's funny how a question about if Woodhead's role in the offense is diminishing this year can get you called clueless and a Jets fan when there is statistical and draft evidence to back it up.

Everyone relax and have a beer.

Exactly. People forget that, statistically, he was the best third-down back in the NFL last year. He hasn't been as good this year, but Brady hasn't been targeting RB's as much. My only complaint with Woodhead has been his tendency to get swallowed up at the line. But some of that's due to the play calling; Ridley's had similar problems on the same run plays. I doubt Faulk would be much better in that regard. He'll be better as a blocker though.

We've seen BB make crafty use of IR before. There's obviously still a chance that Faulk comes back to practice, can't kick it and gets shelved.

If Kevin does come back and impress, Woody to IR isn't off the wall because his touches and production have dipped some this year, Faulk has played a very similar role for years while earning the coaches trust and it'd be odd to carry 5 pure RBs. The same possibility exists with Vereen.

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a Pats fan that isn't cheering for Woody. His popularity was huge last year and he performed with gusto. Everyone appreciates the guys that give full effort and are all business.

This isn't slander to Woody, but the possibility of IR exists. Especially since he's already dealing with an injury.

Vereen goes to IR if it's a RB and Faulk looks good......Woody is a proven commodity and too good to just shelve.....Vereen gets a red shirt year and Kevin can retire next season if he so chooses.....
