Let's try to undersatand your position. We usually carry four safeties who can be counted on to play safety, plus a special teamer or two.

So, this year we try womething new. We carry only THREE safeties plus a special teamer.
We often use three safeties, so essentially we have ZERO backups, except having a corner move over to safety.

They really really really like Sergio Brown. He outplayed EVERYONE not named Chung in that safety group and to me thats pretty damn impressive.

Sanders wasn't being paid 4 million dollars. His salary was 2.8 million. He had 700K in signing bonus amortization left.

Why couldn't you use Sanders is 2nd and 3rd down situations? He sure as all has been there before.

Sergio Brown did not outplay anyone if you actually watched the games.. This is what I don't understand. The guy was timid. He wasn't in the right places. And he was very unwilling to hit people in the run game to make a stop..

IMO our LB tackles per game average will go down, and that's adjusted for the fact that we may well have less LB's on the field. More out of the DL.

Who cares if the tackles per game by the LBers goes down? That doesn't change the fact that the Pats have always played a 2 gap defense under Belichick. And it has nothing to do with your original claim.

What makes you think the changes on the D line help against the run? This isn't a run first league and it hasn't been in some time. This D line is for hitting/hurrying the passer, which puts LESS pressure on the DB, not more.

Since you missed it, the Pats run defense allowed a mediocre 4.2 YPC last year. Adding guys like Haynesworth, Ellis, and Carter are definitely ways to help against the run.

Yeah, I get how BB couldn't find/coach what he wanted out of the 3-4 OLB's, so he's staffed his front 7 (or 6) from the more common 4-3 style players. I already wrote about that. Go ahead and watch where our LOLB (Vrabel) used to play and what the responsibilities were in 2007 compared to this year, there will be no match.

No. I don't think you get it, in all honesty. At least you haven't proven so. I've watched where Vrabel lined up during his numerous years as an OLB for the Pats. If you want to believe that whomever is playing the LDE spot in the 4-3 and the LOLB in the 3-4 won't have the same or similar responsibilities as Vrabel did back in 2007, you're kidding yourself.

Never said it wasn't, but I do say that we will react/have better results against the pass this year compared to last year, partially because of staff, partially because where they are on the field, and partially because of the scheme.

You mean that 'great corner' who plays off coverage, jumps on every route, gets lost by a pump fake, can't play man coverage, can't be physical at the LOS, blows his coverage for an int and gets burned by a td?....
