A Consolidation of Moss Threads

There's a poll on ESPN.com asking if the Pats should sign Moss.

With nearly 40,000 votes. . . .

>80% say yes. :bricks:

Ta-daa!!! Pay no attention to the old men behind the curtains here!! :cool3:

I want Moss to come back. But I doubt it happens.

He was 30 in 2007. He's 34 now. His speed and jumping have definitely declined. Plus we're stacked at WR.

I think if Ocho Cinco experiment doesnt work out for some reason, then Moss will be brought in. Very low chance of it happening though.

This is Gronkastic! Another Moss thread!

Eventhough Mike Reiss, Tom E Curran, Shalize Manza Young, and many other reporters have heard from sources that the Pats have no interest in resigning Moss, it is clear that the Pats are chomping at the bit to resign him. It is all a ploy to drive down his price eventhough there is no market for him, he repeatedly stated his desire to play for the Patriots, and he isn't going to get more than a veteran minimum deal with possibly incentives.

(in my best fergie) it's gronkalicious.

it's pretty simple for me. if he can help us win another sb than yeah. if not, no thanks.

Stacked? Definitely not. We do not have a single WR that scares a defense. Welker is a slot guy who scares a defense but there are no WRs that demand double coverage. Moss would give us that...

Moss's outstanding 2010 season is a testament to just how much he scares NFL defenses.

Ok...thanks....guess it is just another story to get ESPN ratings. I thought there was something more concrete happening.

I think they're just running with the Brady WEEI story from this morning that got re-run on PFT

Brady was asked about Moss' comments about wanting to come back to the Patriots.

They asked Brady if he would welcome Moss back.

There was a pause.

A long pause.

Then Brady gave the diplomatic - "I like Randy, Randy's my friend. I talked to him last week. I don't have any say on personnel but if they brought Randy back I'd welcome him" response.

He also said he'd love to have Troy Brown back and David Patten too.

ESPN has twisted an interview transcript into a story where Tom Brady is begging for Randy to return and Belichick is about to pull the trigger to make it happen.

That doesn't reflect the interview. ESPN needs to learn the difference between news and journalism.

That being said, I assume the Butler cut means someone else is on their way in - and anything is possible.

TBH I would take a one leg, one hand Moss over Ochocinco any day

I want Him ! and I want him now. If anything, I think Randy has had time to think and knows full on ......this is IT ! Go out BIG :rocker:

OK....I took some time to think about this....and I am just gonna go ahead and say......ALL IN!!!

Take him back, get him to stretch this god forsaking field...figure out the numbers re the contract, and get this o-line to brotect the middle of the pocket.

Great, now I got this "moss this moss that moss this that" in my head.

Thank god football is back...

:rocker:

Really?

We have backs that can catch the ball. We have TE's that can for sure catch the ball. But you said WR.

Slot/possession guys - we have those, good ones too.

Deep/stretch the field - ummmm.... Price and who? Slater? 85?

Brady didn't have much in the way of long guys before 2007. So, we may be able to get by w/o it. But given this lack, and the age of 85 and Branch, and the brittleness of Edelman - stacked is not the adjective I would use.

Moss has about as much chance of becoming a Patriot again as Momma Gronkowski has of playing Safety for us

Wait a sec....that's not as crazy as it sounds...we're signing the rest of the family! Can she rush the passer!? What's her 40 time?

I think they should bring him back if he is willing to accept a situational role and do what he can to help the team. Moss and Ocho on the outside with welker in the slot would create problems for any D.

Yeah, I like your idea.

Everyone wants Moss back because he was so incredible in 2007-2008... But he's not that guy anymore. Go back and watch last year's first Dolphins game. He couldn't get any separation against Vontae Davis -- at all. He's not a deep threat anymore and he can't help you on special teams. So you'd be bringing in a guy who can't win against good corners, who doesn't play special teams, and who is volatile in the locker room to boot.

If he suddenly showed up running a 4.3 again, that would be another thing. But I just don't see it. We should give the kid Price a shot. He's not Moss, but he's big and fast and could maybe be a deep threat. Look at the passing game of a team like Green Bay -- great accurate QB, lots of solid, athletic receivers. The Pats can be like that. With the inside/short threats on the roster, if players like Price, Ocho and even Slater can even be credible on posts and go routes, the offense should he nearly unstoppable.

Oh, no problem...ten pages into yet another worthless Moss thread...

I am not reading every post but I simply do not see Moss coming back. Pats have enough receivers and from what all of us have read is that Brady was upset with Moss last year and said he would freeze him out.

True or not Moss was traded shortly after. Plus with Moss I felt like Brady had to throw, or force, the ball to Moss just to keep him happy. Pats have moved on from Moss and fans probably should as well.

People don't want to believe that the reason Belichick Moss him wasn't because he had a bad attitude, but because he had a bad attitude AND his talent had deteriorated. The visions of him getting beat by Davis and the fact the offense falling apart in the second half of the Jets game largely because Cromartie totally neutralized Moss and Brady threw two picks trying to get the ball to Moss who didn't even fight for the ball have been wiped from people's memories. I would say Moss was a top three reason why the Pats lost the first Jets game and he is at least partially responsible for two of Brady's four INTs last season.
