I can think of about $9M reasons this year alone... Not to mention Asante was never happy here and this is likely the last place he'd choose to play out the backloaded backend of that deal the Eagles gave him... Asante played his best ball here when Rodney was the brains directing the secondary. We need a better/headier FS, not a ballhawking corner who gambles.
***ante is a great zone cover corner. However he still guesses alot. He was perfect for the old 3-4 "bend but don't break" defense...
However, this is the new "try and block these two giants" 4-3 defense. Which is going to put more pressure in the backfield, and play alot more man to man, not exatly ***ante's strong suit....

Maybe Rodney will consider coming out of retirement. A thirty-nine year old, rusty Harrison is probably better than the brainless 27 year old Merriweather. Then again...probably not.
I don't know who all you "trade Meriweather" drum beaters are thinking is going to play safety this year. Call me crazy, I'm not comfortable with Sergio Brown and Josh Barrett manning the spots with Ventrone backing them both up if Chung gets dinged up and has to miss a few games.
Seriously, I want to know, who's playing safety if not Meriweather?
