We Might Think In Terms Of a 51 Man Roster

Belichick will almost assuredly add a couple of players cut by others in their last cut.

Might be off topic. But you're a mod, right? Can you tell me if there's a way so that threads started by a certain poster are invisible to me? Like, an ignore function, but for entire threads? Thanks.

This year?

How many other teams have comparable depth to New England (such that BB likes their #54 more than our #53?

Of those, how many get through waivers?

While it wouldn't be completely shocking if we picked up two players this year, it would be a mild surprise to me.

There could be last-minute trades like Ojinnaka and Page.

We might not.

Re: We Might Think In Terms Of a 51 Man Roster

Or we could assume that any addition is knocking off a player at the same position that we list in our 53.

Re: We Might Think In Terms Of a 51 Man Roster

Really? Just because we ahve the best depth in the league does NOT mean that there will be no opportunity for upgrade.
==============================
OFFENSIVE LINE
Let's consider the offensive line, with Cannon likely headed for the PUP list.

We have Connolly starting.
We have Ohrnberger, Wendell and Maneri as backups.

You are thinking that there will be no one cut that is an upgrade over any of these players?
You might consider that Wendell is injured.
=========================
SAFETY
Our top three safeties all played in more than 70% of the defensive reps last year. Brown is our #4. We are likely to carry five.

Is there no one out there worth our #5 safety spot. Now, that doesn't even consider the possibility of trading Meriweather or Sanders.
==========================
SPECIAL TEAMS
We are likely to have 2-4 players that make this team to play special teams, plus returners. Is it even possible that a player cut might fit this role.
==========================
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER
When push comes to shove, might there be an OLB who might be our 5th OLB?

Re: We Might Think In Terms Of a 51 Man Roster

Then again we might..

Captain Obvious weighed in..

In that same vein, if they sign another team's castoff, it likely will be after week one, if it's a vested veteran when the contract won't be guaranteed as it would be if signed earlier.

Re: We Might Think In Terms Of a 51 Man Roster

We might have to think in terms of a roster of 50. Or 49, 53, 48, 47, 46...

Wow thats something to think about.

Re: We Might Think In Terms Of a 51 Man Roster

I'm going 54.

I'm going with the Dewey Decimal system:53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.53.you get the idea

I don't know about that. He seems to have more players in camp that he likes than he can keep. There are a large amount of quality football players who were FAs who signed late or not at all, so I don't know if someone else's 54th will be better than our own 53rd this time around.

Those moves have normally been for role players (blocking TE who rarely plays, special teamer who was surprisingly cut) so I don't think its something you can consider a rule of thumb.
