Re: James Ihedigbo

I sat through a lot of painful games back in the day as a member of the Amherst Regional High School pep band. I can attest that making the NFL out of ARHS makes you the ultimate odds-beater.

Welcome, valiant Hurricane!

How interesting. I went to Amherst High back in the late 80's.

ee-HEAD-ee-BO

========================================

Your version is probably correct, I pronounce it, In-Head-Dig-Bo.

At JI we called him Digs.

at Patsfans we call you Nunsnails

Re: James Ihedigbo

Above average special teamer and a hard hitting safety, kinda slow for a DB.

Good guy, good pick up.

I like the signing. Ihedigbo is a good player. I don't think he's slow, he has decent straight-line speed but he does lacks great lateral agility in coverage. Solid tackler and physical. As you know he was a core ST player with the your team and provides depth in the secondary. His 40 numbers at his pro day coming out of UMASS were 4.58, 4.67 and 4.77. From what I remember your team used him some as a blitzer over the last couple years.

Don't know if he can play, but he's got some character IMO. How easy would it be to forget people thousands of miles away?...

Ihedigbo founded the HOPE Africa Foundation in 2008 to help provide educational services for underprivileged communities in Africa.[7] The foundation offers a wealth of assistance to these communities in the form of scholarships, mentoring, funding, and developmental projects.[7]

Ihedigbo is also involved in the Nigerian Agricultural Technical Community College, founded by his parents.[7]

James Ihedigbo - NY Jets 2010 Highlight Video - YouTube

thanks much for the link.

When the video first started i was like - uh oh he has to show the same play 3 times..... that means a real shortage of content in an almost 3 min video.

but i counted 3 ST strip-tackles. If that is truly just 2010 highlights that is pretty good for just one season.

He seemed to always be getting to the qb late (ball already gone), but was hitting hard.

the one thing that was truly ANNOYING was that repetitive fist pump uppercut. Maybe Chad can give him some celebration mentoring

I like this pickup. Very solid both on defense and on special teams. Good depth for our Safety positions.

Could as well be the next Rodney Harrison(B grade). They have a lot in common in regards to their measurable.

This guy has a very uphill battle in proving he is worth cheering for but it is nice to see more depth at safety.

And with a name like that, I plan on calling him George. Seriously, this one requires a nickname.

Some Jest fans called him Dig. IheDIGbo, get it? :snob:

Yeah, not like an easily likeable person such as Haynesworth.

Re: JamesIhedigbo

WE don't do that kind of bush league crap

What's that? Well if you were a man, I'd punch you. Punch you right in the mouth. That's bush. Bush league. YOU HEAR ME? AUDREY! LOOK AT ME! I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Alright?

If you can ignore or look beyond who the author of this column is, this is a really great article on Ihedigbo, his background and his family:

Ihedigbo defines special - New Pat carrying high hope

He's gone from a walk-on at UMass to being a four-year starter culminated in being named a Walter Camp All-American and the FCS title game. Then he was undrafted, didn't even get a call for a full week after the draft, and went on to lead the Jets in special teams tackles plus saw playing time after Jim Leonhard broke his leg.

Aside from what he could offer on special teams, the guy sounds like someone who really has his head on straight, and a hard worker who has his priorities in order.

More like D grade. This guy is a career special teamer. Rodney was arguably the best defender on two SB champions and another team that went 18-1.

PATRIOTS NOTEBOOK: Newcomer Ihedigbo feels right at home in Foxboro - Quincy, MA - The Patriot Ledger
They moved next door on him, but James Ihedigbo is close to fulfilling a childhood vow.
“I was born and raised a Pats fan,” the Amherst Regional High School-University of Massachusetts product said on Saturday afternoon. “Went to games when I was in high school at the old Foxboro Stadium and said, ‘One day I’m going to be playing here.’ Lo and behold, here I am.”

Here he is, a member of the New England Patriots’ 90-man roster, added to the depth chart at an injury-ravaged safety position, an opportunity to suit up for the hometown team at the hometown stadium – now Gillette – a little more than a week-and-half away.

Assuming he can survive the NFL cut to 75 players on Aug. 30, Ihedigo, originally signed by the Patriots’ AFC East rivals, the New York Jets, as a rookie free agent in 2007, will pull on uniform No. 43 for the team he grew up watching when it plays host to the Giants in the preseason finale in Foxboro on Sept. 1.

But first, a road trip to Detroit for a game with the Lions at Ford Field this Saturday night awaits.

“There are a lot of happy people in Massachusetts (now) that I signed on (with the Patriots),” Ihedigbo said.
